PASSWORDPROTECTEDSHARING

WithearlierversionsofWindowsyoucouldsimplyshutoffPasswordProtectedSharing.StartingWithWindows10,passwordprotectedsharingisturnedonbydefault.IfyouturnitoffitwillonlyremainoffuntilthenextWindowsupdate.Whenthishappens,ifyouhaven’tsetituptowork,alloffyourconnectedclientcomputerswillbedisconnectedandwillsee“Error52-BadFileorDiskError”.Thisisbecausetheauthenticationforthepasswordprotectedshareismissingorincorrect.

FollowthesestepstocreateapasswordprotectedshareaccountonyourserverPC.Thereasontodothisratherthanusetheexistingmanageraccountandpasswordisthatthisaccountallowsyoutoroutinelychangethemanageraccountpasswordwithoutaffectingtheconnectionstotheshareateachclient.

A12%boostisnoticeable—it’snotthekindofspeedtweakthatyouneedastopwatchtodiscern.(Icouldactuallyseethatitwasfaster,whilewatchingRobocopywork!)

Morepleasing,however,wastheeliminationoftherandomslowed-to-a-crawleventsafterdisablingHomeGroupandrestoring56-bitencryption.

SENSIBLEMANAGERIfyourtheatrehasbothadedicatedserverandamanagerworkstation,startwiththededicatedserverandcompleteallsteps.IfnotupgradingfromanearlierSensibleCinemaversion,pleaseskiptostep#6.

Step1:BackupYourSensibleDatabaseDataUsingyour4GBFlashdrive,backupthecontentsofthefolderC:\SensibleDatabaseonyourserverPC,includingall4ilesandfoldersfoundunderthatmainfolder.

Theupgradeprocessshouldnotremoveordisturbyourdatabasedataoryourfolder’ssharepermissions,howeverbackingupthisdataisaprudentsteptoensurewecanrollbacktheinstallationifnecessary.

Step2:UninstallallSensibleCinemaProgramsandUpdatesonServerOpentheWindowsControlPanelandusethe“Add/RemovePrograms”applet(WindowsXP)orthe“ProgramsandFeatures”applet(Windows7andlater).Sortthelistalphabetically.LocateanduninstalleachSensibleCinemaprogramandupdateshown.(Note,thisprocesswillonlyremoveprogramsandcomponentsoriginallyinstalledonyourPCandwillnotremove4ilesorfoldersyoucreatedsincetheinstallation.)

BeginningwithEMVsupport,areceiptwillnowbeprintedonallDECLINEDcreditcardtransactions.Thesoftwarewillalerttheclerktothedeclinethenprintthereceipttoensuretheydonotmistaketheprintingofthereceiptforanapproval!Pleasetrainyouremployeestoexpectthischange.Itisarequirementyoucannotoptoutof.

Yourreceiptprinter’sdrivermayhavesomeadjustmentstoreducetheamountofpaperused.TheEpsonAdvancedPrinterDriverhasanoptiontoremoveblanklines.Bixolonprintersdothisbydefault.Othersmayhavetheoptiontoreducethesizeoftheprint.Thismayhoweverreducereadability.
