Valve World Americas 2015: Building on Success

The Valve World Americas Conference 2015 Steering Committee

Valves are essentially found in every indus-try and if you are involved with these com-ponents you wont want to miss this Valve World Americas Conference being held on July 15 and 16 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas.

This year we continue to follow with the successful format of plenary sessions, panel workshops and exhibiting companies but continue to build a stronger forum by in-cluding topics suggested by past attendees. We also plan to use a larger staging hall for the exhibition due to the anticipated in-crease in exhibitor and visitor participation.

This conference will continue to provide you with the means to meet with the

experts in the industry, an arena to view the latest in valve technologies and devel-opments, and an atmosphere to learn and network. There are nine workshops scheduled with topics addressing a va-riety of todays concerns ranging from Variables in the Design of a Valve to the Performance and Validation of Valves. We encourage you not to miss out on this opportunity to view the latest in valve technology and to share your interests and experiences with other end-users and professionals in the field.

On behalf of the steering committee, we invite you to Houston and look forward to your participation in Valve World Americas 2015 Conference.

Todays fire safe valves use graphite stem seals. Graphite, however, is not an optimal material for a

dynamic seal it is porous and it starts to disintegrate after a few thousand cycles, causing stem leaks.

The HermetiX fire safe valve offers the ultimate solution - a unique graphite free stem seal that

eliminates the risk of graphite disintegration, protecting both line materials and air quality.

Plenary Speakers Along with the nine workshops which cover key issues focusing on the North and South American valve markets, there will be

plenary sessions each morning to kick off the conference days in Room 320 AC. The presenters of these plenary presentations will, amongst other topics, talk about economic and environmental concerns, the

future of shale gas, and valve distribution.

Wednesday, July 15, 8:30 AM Plenary 1: Chairmans Welcome Information availability in a changing industryBy John Gill, BayerThe conference will kick off with an address from Chairman John Gill from Bayer. John Gill is the Manager of the Mechanical Engineering Group at Bayer, in Baytown Texas, where his responsibilities include equipment and technical piping design along with the administration of the companys standards. As an employee of Bayer, he has worked as a Piping Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Manager of Piping Group, Manager of Equipment Group and Administrator of the Bayer standards. Later this year the Material Science business of Bayer will become a separate company and will be called Covestro. At that time, John will transition into Covestro.

Thursday, July 16, 9:00 AM Plenary 5: Valve distributionBy John Carte, MRC GlobalValve distributors create supply chain effi ciencies and savings for both manufacturers and consumers. Industry-wide standards increase this value by allowing distributors to aggregate large-scale demand from multiple sources, creating more predictable production for manufacturers and added availability to end users. Deviating from industry standards, however, can create pitfalls and unexpected risks to an end users operations. Learn more from a distribution perspec-tive as the benefi ts of standardizing specifi cations in valve selection are explored.

Thursday, July 16, 9:30 AM Plenary 6: Environmental Enforcement: Looking Back, Looking ForwardBy Adam M. Kushner, Hogan & Lovells, LLPThe speaker will report on the current state of EPAs enforcement program with particular focus on enforcement trends and results as well as areas of focus for EPA in this coming year.

Wednesday, July 15, 9:00 AM Plenary 2: The Evolution of Purchasing Decisions By Steve Probst, Sage EnvironmentalThe basis for this talk is the discussion around the evolution of purchasing decisions. How the decisions for purchas-ing have progressed from the 1970s all the way to today. This topic will discuss how this has progressed over the years and how you can use it when operating your business and building relationships with your customers. The key to this is caring about your customer, and can be demonstrated through a concept called peak moments.

Wednesday, July 15, 9:30 AM Plenary 3: The Houston Economy: Update and OutlookBy Jesse Thompson, Federal Reserve Bank of DallasJesse Thompson of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas will provide an overview of the health of regional industries and the outlook for economic growth and employment in the region.
