Principle of operationThe medium flows through the valve against the closing direc-tion (FTO). The position of the valve plug determines the cross-sectional area of flow between the valve seat and plug. The plugstem is sealed with a spring-loaded double PTFE stuffing box.A metal bellows seal (Fig. 3) can be used for higher require-ments. A test connection is available on request for both versions. The actuators are designed for pressure from both sides (seeTables 4b and 5b).

Fail-safe positionDepending on how the compression springs are arranged in theactuator (see Data Sheets T 8310 EN and T 8311 EN for furtherdetails), the control valve offers two different fail-safe positionseffective upon air supply failure:Actuator stem "extends":When the air supply fails, the valve is closed (fail-close).Actuator stem "retracts":When the air supply fails, the valve is opened (fail-open).

Construction and principle of operation The valve type 71.13 F is based on the Angle-body valve Typ 71.13 and the electric actuator type Auma SAEXC 16.1 plus the linear thrust unit LE200.1 The Valve is flown in direction of the arrow. The adjusting of the plug is carried out by changing of the electric signal at the actuator. The valvespindle is linked by a flangecoupling with the actuator. In the standardversion a adjustable bonnet seals up the spindle to the outside. In addition the bonnet can be equiped with O-Rings to seal up the spindle.

Mounting instruction The valve including the actuator are mounted and adjusted ex works according the order specification. Before installation of the Vetec-valve into the plant the connection pipe should thoroughly fushed to remove any residues like nuts or bolt and other extraneous parts. Also all packaging material must be removed from the valve, for example protection plates for the sealing surface. As soon as the plate at the seat is removed the seat slips out of the valve-body. The seat must be holden on to avoid the seat gets damaged.

The mounting position of the valve can be arranged in any way, but the vertical mounting (relating to the actuator) into the pipe should be prefered. The valve must be mounted free of stress. If necessary the pipes should be supported near connection flange. The support of the valve and the actuator can be carried out after consultation with the manufacturer. Consider that the arrow on the valve body shows in direction of flow.

Installation- and maintenance description The VETEC-valves with the mounted actuators can be installed into the pipe in any position. By horizontal installation the actuator must be supported. Consider that the arrow on the valve body shows in direction of flow. The VETEC-valves are low-maintenance. If the bonnet after long operation time is leaking, the exchange of the packing rings is required. By bonnets with O-rings you have to exchange the O-rings too.

Exchange of the packing: 1. Separate the actuator (Pos20, 21) at the coupling flanges (Pos.22 und Pos.23) from the valve.

Unscrew the hexagonal screws (Pos.24) and remove the pointer (Pos.17). Release the hexagonal screws (Pos.25) and remove the spindleflange (Pos.23) from the spindle.

2. Release the hexagonal screws (Pos.28) and remove the actuator including the console from the valve.

3. Release the hexagonal nuts (Pos.19) at the bonnet (Pos. 13), so that the packing (Pos.12) is strain-free.

4. Release the hexagonal nuts (Pos.4) and remove the upper cap (Pos.9).

5. Remove packing rings (Pos.12), lubricator (Pos.11) und bushing (Pos.10).

6. Mount the upper cap (Pos. 9) again.

7. Equip the packing-space with bushing (Pos.10), lubricator (Pos.11) and new packing-rings (Pos.12). Order und quantity of the rings as disassembled respectively packung-space drawing. Packing-strings out of PTFE/Graphite should be bevelled cutted (Abb.7). Packing-rings out of graphite are closed. Press the packing with a mounting tube into the packing-space.

8.

Mount the bonnet and tighten it. Remark : A packing out of graphiterings should be pressed about 7% . A mixed packing out of PTFE/Graphite should be pressed about 10 %.

9. Mount the actuator (Pos. 20) with linear thrust unit (Pos.21) and console again.

Exchange of the plug

1.) Remove the actuator completely including the console.

2.) Release the hexagonal nuts (Pos.4) and upper cap (Pos.9) including spindle (Pos.7) and plug (Pos.6) and pull them out of the valve-body.

3.) Pull the plug (Pos.6) and spindle (Pos.7) out of the upper cap. Attention! Notice that the spindle do not get damaged by pulling out of the upper cap.

Even small scratchs in the area of the packing-space can lead to leackage and increase consumption of the packing.

4.) Remove pin (Pos.8) and unscrew the spindle (Pos.7) out of the plug (Pos.6).

5.) Screw in spindle (Pos.7) in the new plug (Pos.6) , bore a new hole and hammer the pin ( Pos.8 ) into the new hole. (The plug (Pos.6) must be fitted backlashed-free on the spindle (Pos.7). The vary of concentric running of the spindle (Pos.7) to the plug (Pos.6) must be little, so that the spindle (Pos.7) does not press the packing (Pos.12) to one side of the packung-space. (If necessary align with a prism).

6.) Put the plug (Pos.6) including spindle (Pos.7) through the upper cap (Pos.9). Attention! Notice that the spindle do not get damaged by pushing into the upper cap. Even small scratches in the area of the packing-space can lead to leackage and increase consumption of the packing.

7.) Screw on upper cap (Pos.9) including spindle (Pos.7) and plug (Pos.6) onto the valve-body (Pos.1).

8.) Equip packing-space with new packing and tighten the bonnet (Pos.13).

9.) Couple the spindle with the actuator. Check the stroke and adjust it.

Principle of operationThe signal pressure pst generates a force F = pst · A on the dia-phragm area A (2). This force is balanced by the actuatorsprings (4). Taking into account the rated travel, the number ofsprings and their compression determine the bench range. Thetravel H is proportional to the signal pressure pst. The operatingdirection of the actuator stem (7) depends on the arrangementof the springs and the signal pressure connection (1).The stem connector (8) connects the actuator stem (7) with theplug stem (10) of the valve. The adjustable mechanical travel stop (Fig. 12) is suitable foractuators made of sheet steel with effective diaphragm areas of240, 350, or 700 cm². Using the limit stop, the actuator travelcan be limited by up to 50 % in both directions (actuator stem“extends” or “retracts”) and permanently adjusted. A specialversion with one-sided travel stop for actuators with an effectivediaphragm area of 120 cm² is available.

Actuators are available with the following fail-safe actions:“Actuator stem extends (FA)“The springs cause the actuator stem to move to the lower endposition (sectional drawings, right) when the diaphragm is re-lieved of pressure or when the supply air fails.“Actuator stem retracts (FE)“The springs cause the actuator stem to retract (sectional draw-ings, left) when the diaphragm is relieved of pressure or whenthe supply air fails.

The operatingdirection of the actuator stem (7) depends on the arrangementof the springs. The stem connector (8) connects the actuator stem (7) with theplug stem (10) of the valve.Fig. 12 shows the side-mounted Type 3273 Hand-operatedActuator for actuators with effective diaphragm areas of 1400and 2800 cm² and a maximum travel of up to 80 mm. Thehandwheel (23) is fixed to the worm-geared shaft (20) andmoves the actuator stem over the worm-geared wheel (21) andthe threaded bushing (22).A side-mounted handwheel as illustrated in Fig. 14 is availablefor valves with 120 mm travel. The adjustable mechanical travel stop (Fig. 7) is suitable for ac-tuator version 1400-60 as well as 2800 cm² and tandem actua-tors. The actuator travel can be limited by up to 50 % in both di-rections (actuator stem “extends” or “retracts”) and perma-nently adjusted. The tandem actuator (Fig. 6) contains two cou-pled diaphragms; they produce a positioning force that is twiceas high as the force of a single-acting actuator.Actuators are available with the following fail-safe actions:“Actuator stem extends (FA)“The springs cause the actuator stem to move to the lower endposition (sectional drawings, right) when the diaphragm is re-lieved of pressure or when the supply air fails.“Actuator stem retracts (FE)“The springs cause the actuator stem to retract (sectional draw-ings, left) when the diaphragm is relieved of pressure or whenthe supply air fails.

Series 3730

Electropneumatic Positioner Type 3730-2 andType 3730-3 with HART® communication

ApplicationSingle-acting or double-acting positioner for attachment topneumatic control valves. Self-calibrating, automatic adapta-tion to valve and actuator.Reference variable 4 to 20 mATravels 3.6 to 200 mmOpening angles 24° to 100°

The positioner ensures a predetermined assignment of the valvestem position (controlled variable x) to the electric input signal(reference variable w). It compares the control signal receivedfrom a controller to the travel or opening angle of the controlvalve and issues a corresponding output signal pressure (outputvariable y).

Special features• Simple attachment to common linear and rotary actuators

with SAMSON direct attachment interface (Fig. 1), NAMURrib (Fig. 2) or control valves with rod-type yokes acc. toIEC 60534-6-1 or rotary actuators acc. to VDI/VDE 3845(Fig. 3)

• Any desired mounting position• Simple one-knob, menu-driven operation• LCD easy to read in any mounting position due to selectable

reading direction• Configurable with a PC over the SSP interface using the

TROVIS-VIEW software• Variable, automatic start-up with four different initialization

modes• Preset parameters – only values deviating from the standard

need to be adjusted• Calibrated travel sensor without gears susceptible to wear• "Sub" initialization mode (substitution) allows the positioner

to be started up in case of emergency whilst the plant is run-ning without the valve moving through the whole travel range

• All parameters saved in EEPROM (protection against powerfailure)

• Two-wire system with a small electrical load between 300 Ωand 410 Ωdepending on the version (see Table 1)

• Adjustable output pressure limitation• Tight-closing function can be activated• Continuous monitoring of zero point• Integrated temperature sensor and operating hours counter• Two standard configurable position alarms• Self-diagnostics; alarms issued over fault alarm contact or

optional analog position transmitter• Integrated EXPERT (optionally EXPERT+) diagnostics (see

T 8388 EN)• Certified according to IEC 61508/SIL

Principle of operationThe electropneumatic positioner is attached to pneumatic con-trol valves. It is used to assign the valve stem position (controlledvariable x) to the input signal (reference variable w). The inputsignal received from a control system is compared to the travelor opening angle of the control valve and an output signal pres-sure (output variable y) is produced. The positioner consists of an electric travel sensor system (2), ananalog i/p converter with a downstream booster and the elec-tronics unit with microcontroller (5).When a deviation occurs, the actuator is pressurized or vented. If required, the changes in the signal pressure can be slowed

down by a volume restriction. The signal pressure to the actua-tor can be limited by software to 1.4, 2.4 or 3.7 bar.A constant air stream to the atmosphere is created by the flowregulator (9) with a fixed set point. The air stream is used topurge the inside of the case as well as to optimize the air capac-ity booster. The i/p module (6) is supplied with a constant up-stream pressure by the pressure regulator (8) to make it inde-pendent of the supply air pressure.

OperationThe positioner is operated with a user-friendly rotarypushbutton. The parameters are selected by turning the knob, pushing it activates the required settings. In the menu, all pa-rameters are listed in one level, meaning there is no need tosearch through submenus. All parameters can be checked andchanged on site. All values are displayed on the LCD. The reading direction ofthe LCD can be rotated by 180° at the push of a button. The closing direction of the control valve is indicated to thepositioner by the DIP switch "Air to open/Air to close". It assignsthe CLOSED position of the control valve to the 0 % reading. The INIT key activates initialization, which is started accordingto (pre)set parameters (autotune). After initialization has beencompleted, the positioner immediately starts control operation. To configure the positioner with SAMSON’s TROVIS-VIEW con-figuration software, the positioner is equipped with an additionaldigital interface to be connected to the RS-232 interface of a PC.Additionally, all parameters of the Type 3730-3 Positioner canbe accessed using HART® communication.

1 EXPERT1.1 Initialization diagnosticsEXPERT monitors the control valve during automatic initializa-tion to ensure trouble-free start-up. In addition, the opening andclosing times are determined. The diagnostic function also indicates faults concerning attach-ment and the entire valve travel range as well as hardware anddata memory defects and the correct initialization time.

1.2 Online monitoring

1.2.1 Display of the current process variablesEXPERT provides the process variables collected by thepositioner (e.g. the reference variable w, controlled variable x,error e and manipulated variable y) and analyzes the diagnos-tic data.

1.2.2 Important operating parameters (Fig. 4)EXPERT provides an overview of the valve status as well as thefollowing operating parameters, which enable the operator toanalyze the current valve condition and perform predictivemaintenance:– Operating hours counter, distinction between overall operat-

ing time and operating time in active control (since the firststart-up and the last initialization routine)

– Number of zero calibrations performed– Number of initializations performed

– Display of the current temperature as well as saving of themaximum and minimum temperatures, including alarm func-tion when a limit is exceeded

– Total valve travel, including customizable limit

1.2.3 Direct detection of fault sourcesThe alarms and status alarms generated by EXPERT enablequick fault detection in case an error occurred. The last30 alarms are logged in a FIFO (first in, first out) memory to-gether with the operating hour they were generated in.Possible fault categories are:Operating errors, e.g.:– Control loop error (excessive error, e.g. blocked actuator, in-

sufficient supply pressure etc.)– Zero point shiftHardware and data memory faults are also indicated.

2 EXPERT+

2.1 Process monitoringBy permanently recording raw diagnostic data (w, x, y and e) inthe positioner, the user can gather information about how thecontrol valve behaves under process conditions.Signal logging enables an analysis of the current measuringscope as well as of the positioner’s entire service life. The following statements can be made:– Valve position range OK– Valve mainly operates in the upper or the lower end positionAs a result, recommendations for predictive maintenance canbe given. In addition, immediately required action is indicated.

2.1.1 Data loggerThe variables reference variable w, valve position x, setpointdeviation e, drive signal y and the operating hours counter arerecorded and saved in a FIFO memory. The interval betweenthe individual measuring points can be customized.Apart from permanent sampling, the data can also be collectedonline while the process is running, provided a certain triggercondition is met.The trigger condition can be defined by the user as certainthresholds (valve travel (setpoint) or solenoid valve condi-tion/forced venting).Additionally, a pretrigger time is available which allows data tobe displayed also before the trigger conditions are met. Thememory size can be selected as required.

2.1.2 Valve end positionsThis test serves to detect wear or dirt on the valve trim and is runautomatically while the process is running. The valve position isrecorded when the lower end position is reached and anychanges logged together with the drive signal y and a timestamp. The first measured value is used as a reference.Further measured values showing a greater deviation from thelast recorded value are logged.

2.1.3 Cycle counterThe dynamic stress that the valve packing and possibly a metalbellows are exposed to can be analyzed by counting cycle fre-quency and assigning the travel performed in the cycle to a de-termined valve travel class. The results are displayed as along-term histogram and a short-term histogram. Based on thediagnostic data, a dynamic stress factor [%] with an alarm limitis generated.

2.1.4 Histograms (Fig. 5)The variables valve position x and setpoint deviation e are sam-pled at determined intervals. They are classified and, similar tothe cycle counter, displayed as long-term and short-term histo-grams. The scan rate of the short-term histograms for x and ecan be adjusted. Additionally, the number of measurement val-ues, the observation period, the average value as well as emin

and emax are displayed.

Page 48: Product Data Sheets

2.2 Internal drive signal y versus valve position x2.2.1 y-x signature (Fig. 6)While the process is running, the internal drive signal y is auto-matically recorded, averaged and assigned to a valve travelclass once the valve has reached a steady state. The test function is also available in the manual mode. Duringwhich, the valve is moved to certain predefined travel posi-tions x over the travel range and the associated y signal is re-corded when the valve reaches a steady state. The reference graph required for this analysis is automaticallyplotted during initialization.Statements can be made on the spring force, the pneumatic sys-tem, the air supply and the mechanical attachment. Corre-sponding alarms are generated.

2.2.2 Hysteresis testThis test serves to detect friction changes (hysteresis). It is started automatically while the process is running as soon asa configurable time between tests has elapsed and the valve hasreached a steady state. The results are saved, averaged and analyzed according tovalve position classes. For this test, a minimal change of the valve opening over a cer-tain period of time is preset with a determined tolerance band. The test is automatically canceled when this tolerance is ex-ceeded or the reference variable changes and the positioner re-turns to standard control operation. The analysis is based onΔy.

The test can also be started in the manual mode. In this case, thetest is performed at certain valve travel positions x within thetravel range. The reference graph required for this analysis is automaticallyplotted during initialization.

2.3 Tests for targeted early fault detection2.3.1 Static characteristic

(checking the static control response)The static control response of the control valve is checked byvarying the reference variable in steps of, for example, 0.1 %.The response of the controlled variable is recorded after a cus-tomized delay has elapsed (travel position when the valve hasreached a steady state). The control loop is analyzed with the help of the minimum, mean and maximum dead band of the control valve. In manual mode, the entire valve travel range is recorded.

2.3.2 Step response(checking the dynamic control response, Fig. 7)

The dynamic control response of the control valve is checked bychanging the reference variable in steps of defined height inboth travel directions (step response). The course of the controlled variable x, reference variable w,drive signal y and setpoint deviation e is recorded at a deter-mined scan rate until the valve has reached a steady stateagain. The dead time, T63, T98, overshooting as well as rise timeand settling time are indicated separately for increasing anddecreasing characteristic. This test can be carried out in manual mode over the entire valvetravel range.

2.4 Plain text diagnostics (Fig. 8)EXPERT+ automatically generates other additional status alarmsfrom the collected diagnostic data, e.g.:– Pneumatic leakage– Friction changedAs with EXPERT, the status alarms are logged with the operatinghour they were generated in.

3 Visualization and parameterization ofEXPERT and EXPERT+ diagnostics

The TROVIS-VIEW software or the DTM tool generate graphsfrom the data, test results and status alarms collected by the di-agnostics firmware in the positioner. In addition, the diagnostics data can also be made accessible toother engineering tools using the DD (Device Description) oreDD (enhanced DD), which enables the data to be displayed ingraph form, e.g. using Siemens PDM.How the data are displayed depends on the applied tool.

3.1Classification and marking of status alarmsBased on NAMUR recommendation NE 107, the alarms(events) generated by EXPERT and EXPERT+ are assigned a sta-tus (classified). The following states can be assigned to an alarm(event):

6 T 8388 EN

The classification can be assigned by the user. The classifiedstatus alarms (events) are summarized in a condensed state.

The condensed status is indicated on the positioner display andcan be read using the communication features. In addition, thecondensed state can be issued to the optional fault alarm con-tact*.Type 3730-4: The status classification is consistent with theProfibus Profile 3.01 with condensed status and diagnostic mes-sage extension. The process-related fault status is classified.Type 373x-5: The condensed state is listed in the ResourceBlock and can also be issued to the discrete output of either theFunction Block DI1 or DI2. In addition to the condensed state, ablock error for the Resource Block and AO Transducer Blockcan be formed from the classified alarms (events). In this case, the following assigned states are possible:– No message– Maintenance soon– Maintenance now

* Fault alarm contact in Types 3730-2 and 3730-3, optional inType 3731-3

3.2 Diagrams in TROVIS-VIEW, DTM, eDD(e.g. Siemens PDM)

The software with trend viewing function allows the variablesrecorded by the data logger (w, x, y, e) to be plotted versus thetime. Similarly, the raw data and data collected in the varioustests are plotted in graphs:– Current process variables– y-x signature– Hysteresis test– Static characteristic– Step response– Valve end position trendingThe long-term and short-term histograms described in section2.1.4 are displayed as bar graphs.A difference is made between long-term and short-term in they-x signature and the histograms. The plotted graphs visualize changes in control behavior andsupport predictive maintenance.

Inductive Limit Switch for Pneumatic Control Valves

Type 3768

ApplicationLimit switch with two incorporated inductive switches andoptionally one 3/2-way solenoid valve for attachment topneumatic control valvesFor rated travels from 7.5 to 120 mm

The limit switch is equipped with two inductive proximityswitches which issue a signal when an adjustable limit is ex-ceeded in either direction.Optionally, the limit switch is also available with an integral3/2-way solenoid valve which registers a binary signal issuedby a control device and converts it into a binary signal pressure. When the solenoid valve is in de-energized state, the actuatormoves the valve to the fail-safe position.– All limit switches can be overridden and can be optionally

used as normally-closed or normally-opened contacts– Versions for use in hazardous areas in type of protection

Fig. 1 · Type 3768 Limit Switch

Page 53: Product Data Sheets

Principle of operation (Figs. 3 and 4)When the limit switch is attached to the control valve, the valvetravel is transmitted via the pin (1.1) to the lever (1) of the actua-tor. Any change in travel is converted into a rotary motion of theshaft (2). The shaft (2) is fitted with two adjustable metal tags (4)which operate the associated proximity switches (5).For operation of these inductive limit switches, appropriate tran-sistor relays must be connected in the output circuit. The proxim-ity switch assumes high impedance when the metal tag (4) iswithin the inductive field, whereas the sensor assumes low im-pedance when the metal tag is outside the field. When the incorporated solenoid valve is energized, a supplyair pressure is applied to the actuator. The speed of air supply isadjustable at a restriction. When the solenoid valve is de-ener-gized, the actuator is vented and the control valve moves to itsfail-safe position.

Function of solenoid driveTo switch the direct operated valve, a certain energy

is required. This energy is stored in a condenser.

The charging voltage is 22 V. The higher the supply

voltage, the shorter the charging time. As soon as the

charging voltage has been reached, the valve

switches. The small current now flowing through the

coil is sufficient to hold the valve in the open position.

At least 40 mA are required for this.
