The 1278 Subsystem, configured for valve leak detection, provides an on-line alternative to the portable 5131-VPAC, which is used worldwide for loss control in refineries, gas plants and offshore platforms. The 5131-VPAC saves >$1m per annum per unit in losses. Based on >15 years experience with VPAC technology, the most cost-effective strategy for installing VPAC On-line is to target the Emergency Blow-Down Valves (EBDV), hydrogen valves, and C2/C3 control valves leading to flare that are responsible for the majority of losses. ESDV’s may be monitored automatically when closed. Difficult to reach valves, for example those on top of towers that may never be surveyed, are another ideal use. The system works with any loop-powered 24 volt 4-20 ma system, (power is derived from the current loop), and is sup-plied with an intrinsically safe VPAC sensor, ready for direct connection to the plant DCS via any galvanic or zener barrier. When valves do not close properly, or leak for other reasons, the operator knows immediately.

Hole and Blockage DetectorThe Acoustic Ranger 5000 device detects holes, blockages, erosion and corrosion in tubes and pipes. The device emits a sound pulse which runs along the inside of the pipe, following it around bends and even complex spirals. DiSP-24 : 24 Channel, Digital AE instrument which includes PAC R15I integral preamp sensors with built-in self diagnostics capability (Auto Sensor Testing) and 30 meter cables. PowerPAC ™ Acoustic Emission Testing Technology Package

PowerPAC™ is an Acoustic Emission (AE) technology package for testing power transformers. An on-line monitoring procedure was developed under an EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute) sponsored and tailored collaboration with Physical Acoustics Corp. (Project I.D. No. 051481). This collaboration refined the package with three phases of program develoment resulting in on-line monitoring of power transformers to detect, locate and assess electrical and thermal faults.AE sensors are installed on the transformer covering both the tank and the LTC compartment (if one is present) along with sensors to monitor pump current, fan current, load current, tank wall tempera-ture and LTC compartment wall temperature collecting data for comparison with the AE data during post test data analysis. In order to observe the effects of a complete load cycle, data is collected over a period of 24 hours. Results are presented showing the location (in 3-D) and types of faults. A grading system is used for each fault and provides an overall evaluation of the transformer for maintenance or operation planning.

Loose Parts Monitoring Equipment (LPME)

LPME monitors, detects and evaluates metallic loose parts in reactor systems using transient acoustic signal analysis. Acoustic sensors/accelerometers are permanently located at strate-gic positions on the system being monitored (in direct contact with pipes and vessels), where loose parts are most likely to impact. The sensors detect the impact of any loose parts as they come in contact with the pipe or vessel wall. The sensors detect the mechanical vibration emanating from the point of impact and convert it into an electrical signal that is amplified by the system preamplifier, processed by the Loose Parts Monitor Equipment Data Acquisition System (LPME-DAS) and recorded by the Data Acquisition Computer (DAC). The software (LPME-DAQ) alerts the operator and control room when a loose part is detected, and provides a user-friendly interface for the operator to analyze the transients, differentiate between noise and impact signals and determine location and impact characteristics.

The Pocket AE-2 is a high performance, computerised, dual channel Acoustic Emission (AE)system packaged in a rugged, portable handheld unit. It offers all the performance featuresof larger, more expensive AE systems, includingwide bandwidth, speed, AE features, samplingrates, waveform processing capabilities andaudible AE, all in a compact, battery-operatedpackage.The system is an excellent field survey tool,especially in situations where power is not readilyavailable. The TesTex, Inc TX-4400 ECT Inspection System is based on the Eddy Current Technique to quickly and accurately inspect non-ferrous metal tubing from the I.D. Prodigy 8C boiler tube/pipe scanning system The Prodigy 8C is a one man, multichannel NDT system for scanning most any boilermmtube/pipe from the O.D. LECTROMAX 100 Series DemagnetisersLECTROMAX 100 Series of demagnetisers include a range of standard demagnetisers in various sizes, voltages and intensities. A range of standard optional accessories is available. In addition, special purpose demagnetisers can be manufactured to suit particular applications, including high intensity air cooled types for continuous or intermittent duty. Continuous duty demagnetisers can be supplied for integrating with conveyor systems. Intermittent duty demagnetisers are fitted with a 60 second timer, which automatically controls the energised period. The timer incorporates a panel mounted digital display, which indicates the elapsed time. All LECTROMAX demagnetisers are conservatively designed for maximum operating efficiency and long life.

The Exertus Selen Circa projector range is a new generation of “close proximity" Tungsten shielded gamma radiography projectors which has the ability to accept Selenium 75 sources. This projector offers the latest design that makes it flexible yet compact.

These Projectors can be used for either normal radiography methods or for radiography where close proximity work is needed. The design incorporates a Directional Tungsten Collimator which connects directly to the Projector. This reduces the radiation controlled area significantly and allows operations to continue in the close vicinity.

Safety is an integral part of the Exertus Selen Isotope Projector range – a three colour signal indicator provides the user with a clear visual guide as to the position of the source at all times. Once the source is safe inside the Projector and the Projector is locked (Safe Mode) the signal is green. When the source is inside the Projector, but the Projector isunlocked and the source assembly locking mechanism is ready to be released a yellowsignal indicates. In order to provide quality control of industrial products, Cobalt-60 is a preferred isotope for the radiography of steel. The Exertus Vox 100 Projector is an integration of all the Exertus Projector lines and has the ability to accept Co-60 sources.

The Exertus Vox 100 Projector integrates an improved source channel based on a new helicoidal design, which makes maintenance easier. It also allows smoother movement of the source assembly inside the device, making it easier for the operator and improving safety.

Safety is an integral part of the design of the Exertus Vox 100 Projector. A three colour signalindicator provides the user with a clear visual guide as to the position of the source at all times. Iridium-192 Radiography SourcesThe primary use of Ir.192 sealed sources is in gamma radiography. In comparison to other sealed sources used in similar applications, the film resolution produced with the use of Ir.192 provides exposure of exceptional quality which is of critical importance in the field ofnon-destructive testing.

Sources manufactured by NTP Radioisotopes SOC Ltd are suitable for most types of radiography projectors. These Ir.192 capsules, made of stainless steel and containing high purity activated iridium, are manufactured according to strict IAEA standards and each source is welded and tested to comply with Special Form certification, also fully accredited by the IAEA in compliance with the requirements of NTP's ISO 9001:2008 certification.

Irradiation of Iridium seeds takes place at various facilities around the world including the Safari 1 Reactor situated at Pelindaba, South Africa. NTP Radioisotopes SOC Ltd assembles Ir.192 Sealed Sources in Special Form capsules in their Hotcell facilities.

The Sources are loaded onto pigtails for all recognised and approved Projector brands and shipped to the customer in the Projector or in specially manufactured transfer containers.

In both systems, the X-ray generation is based on the “Bremmstrahlung” emission. Electrons are emitted from the cathode and accelerated by the electrical field existing between the anode and the cathode. When they strike the anode, theyare suddenly decelerated. This induces the X-ray emission called “Bremmstrahlung”.The main differences are the way to supply the X-ray tube and to emitelectrons. In the case of pulsed sources, repetitive high voltage pulses are applied to the tube. The very high flow of electrons is emitted from a pin by field effect. As the instantaneous current is very high, the pin is progressively degraded. During the lifetime of the generator, as the pin shape is modified, the dose rate is evolving.The repeatability of the dose is limited during the lifetime. Over recent years, there have been major advances in imaging technology: CMOS silicon active pixel sensors, CCD capture devices and high speed film-based systems (such as F8 + RCF screens). Combine these with the ultra lightweight, mains power-independent CP120B and CP160B as the source of X-rays and the result is a totally new concept for NDT and SECURITY applications.Greater penetrating power and almost incredibly low and compact size are achieved by the advanced 100 kHz resonant mode high voltage transformer. This delivers a constant DC output that easily outperforms contemporary 150 kV and 200 kV cold cathode pulsed X-ray generators. Depending on the detector used, CP120B and CP160B will image through steel plates up to 10 mm and 21 mm thick with a very short exposure time.The CP120B and CP160B can also be run continuously for several minutes without cooling interruptions, a major improvement on the “few seconds” possible with pulsed, cold cathode X-ray units.

4.4.1 Digital Radiography (DR)Medex DR

Complete portable X-ray DR solution for NDT inspection.

A digital radiograph is stored and displayed on a PC, rather than a radiographic film. The advantage of this is that the image can be processed, enhanced and communicated much faster than a conventional film. The 'flat-panel' similar to a digital camera, converts the X-ray quanta directly into charge. The flat panel is positioned in the same place as the film and is connected directly to a PC.

Digital radiography typically requires lower values of kV and smaller exposure times. The disadvantage is poorer resolution compared with fine-grain film. However, the technology is improving with time. Digital radiography is normally used to inspect castings and pipe-welds.

Installed Radiation Warning Systems

GAMMAGATE Isotope Storage Facility Safety and Intrusion System

The GammaGate is a compact alarm system for the protection of assets and personnel. Ithas been designed for use in NDT Isotope Storage Facilities but may be used in any area where entry monitoring and personnel detection is required.

System: The system comprises of a Main Control Unit with an ERA99-A, integrated PIR Motion Detector (optionally remote cabled), Magnetic Door Sensor, Entry Alarm Klaxon, Red and Amber flashing light and an in built analogue type radiation survey meter. This main unit needs to be installed inside the enclosure. This system is supplied with a supporting slave unit outside the enclosure and the slave unit comprises of a Klaxon Alarm along with red and amber flashing light.

Operation: Upon opening the entry door to the storage enclosure the klaxon will sound and the amber flashing lights will switch 'ON' both on the main unit and the slave unit. The klaxon will cease once the door has been closed. However, the amber warning light will continue to flash as long as there are personnel moving in the enclosure. The flashing alarm will cease 5 seconds after all personnel have evacuated. In the event of radiation detection the unit will automatically switch to a Red flashing beacon and give an 110db continuous audible alarm tone.

The Sitescan delivers high performance and advanced features ensuring it is easy and quick to use. The acknowledged ease of use of previous generation Sitescans has been enhanced with the menu navigation scroll-wheel, providing easy access to functions. The menu structure has been designed to guide the user through their task with operation quickly becoming second nature.

The Sitescan D-10 uses a broad band amplifier compatible with a wide range of transducers whilst the D-20 model uses several narrow bands for improved performance. The “analogue feel” from the high quality broadband amplifier shows all the detail required to identify defect types such as holes or cracks, and sufficient resolution for identifying small signals. WrapIt

WrapIt is a conformable probe designed for the inspection of radii and curved surfaces. At the centre is a truly flexible ultrasonic phased array transducer that operates on both concave and convex surfaces.Surrounding the array is a two-part rubber enclosure that is set to a nominal curvature. The rubber housing is adaptable and functionally it confines the flexibility in order to protect the array from potential damage by being over-flexed. The array can be easily interchanged between rubber housings to scan different radii. Every housing is suitable for inspecting a range of radii without any mechanical adjustment required.Attached to the WrapIt is a wheel encoder positioned to run on the radius so it is clear of panel cut outs and gaps. The high resolution encoder is waterproof and spring loaded onto the part giving a stable and reliable operation.WrapIt incorporates low friction plastic skids to provide stability and a smooth scanning motion. Within WrapIt, between the array transducer and the component, is a flexible rubber delay line. This is accompanied by couplant irrigation channels that feed water to the front face of the probe providing consistent continuous coupling of the ultrasound.

Flex Transducers

Flex transducers are thin, compliant ultrasonic probes that can conform to curved surfaces using fingertip pressure. This enables them to be used on non-flat components to provide improved ultra-sound transmission compared to standard hard faced transducers. Made of a thin but durable piezo-electric material that is soft enough to bend, Flex transducers can be shaped to suit curved geometry. By using a soft backing layer, the flexibility of the crystal is retained. The Flex series are available as single element (FFSC), dual element (FFTC), composite single element (CFFSC), and composite dual element (CFFTC) formats. Standard Flex transducers are 5MHz or 10MHz at sizes of Ø6mm, Ø10mm or Ø20mm diameter. Flex transducers are ideal for inspecting radius areas of composites and accessing complex geometries in metals, such as weld cap areas or castings. They can be used with any standard ultrasonic instrument.

5.6 ULTRASONIC TUBE INSPECTION TesTex Helix XT - IRISThe Helix-XT is an ultrasonic based system for inspecting ferrous and nonferrous tubes from the inside. It is based on the Internal Rotating Inspection System (IRIS), which can be applied on almost any material.

With the Helix-XT, accurate thickness measurements can be taken at any location along the tube, so small changes in thickness are measurable and the exact location of pitting and corrosion can be determined.

The system uses an immersion pulse echo technique in which a stream of water is used to spin a turbine containing the transducer. The turbine rotates a mirror, set at 45 degrees, to reflect the ultrasonic pulses radially into the tube wall.

Reflections from the inner and outer walls of the tube follow the same path back to the transducer. The time interval between the first echo – the inner wall – and the second echo – the outer tube wall – measures the tube's wall thickness.

One hundred percent of the tube is inspected through a helical path, which is created when the transducer head traverses through the tube.

The C-Clamp Encoder is a universal accessory for single axis inspections requiring no tools for setup and operation. Tracer

Tracer is a versatile freehand scanning system that calculates and outputs accurate X-Y positional data for C-scan inspections without the constraints of a scanning frame. Tracer is ideally suited to operate with linear array probes to provide a fast, simple and flexible portable C-scan inspection kit. Tracer comprises two wire encoders both linked to the probe being scanned. The output from the encoders passes to an interface unit which then calculates and provides the X-Y encoder values for your instrumentation. The encoders can be mounted anywhere close to the inspection site permitting set up on or near to the component, or around obstructions. They come with three snap fit mounting options for different surfaces: vacuum cup, magnet and clamp. The mounts can be used to fix the encoders upright, on their side or even inverted. The wire encoders are then attached to a c-clamp which is able to grip any probe or wedge up to 55mm wide. Tracer can be used on an inspection area of up to 2m x 2m from a single position. It is also possible to set up an inspection area at any angle relative to the location of the encoders. This enables C-scan inspec-tion in difficult to access areas. MultiMagCompact Magnetic Wheeled Manual Scanner

MultiMag can be used on pipes ranging from 3" OD up to flat plate and can be configured for inspecting pipe to pipe or pipe to elbow circumferential welds, as well as single sided inspections of pipe to fitting welds. With large magnetic wheels that provide a stableplatform the MultiMag has a smooth rolling motion. The frame includes angular adjustment to enable the scanner to be used on small diameter pipes. The wheels can be positioned anywhere along the scanning frame to give the flexibility to configure the scanner to suit the inspection geometry. MultiMag can hold up to four transducers; phased array, TOFD or pulse echo, arranged as two pairs on either side of the weld. The transducers are mounted to spring-loaded tool-posts that push the transducers onto the test surface with a constant force providing a stable positioning system. The Bracelet scanner is a low profile, small bore pipe scanner for use with ultrasonic phased array or TOFD probes. This hand held, single axis scanner is ideal for TOFD inspection of welds of any material. The WREN can be operated using one hand so is particularly operator-friendly for site use, especially in areas with difficult access. It has a compact frame for accurately positioning transducers for TOFD inspec-tion of welds available in two lengths: the WREN 4 is 100mm and the WREN 8 is 200mm. The scan-ner provides a sturdy, accurate frame giving high quality, reliable inspection data. The GammaTec NDT Supplies SOC Ltd policy statement on Code of Ethics is signed by the Chairman of the Board and the Managing Director.

As we carry out GammaTec’s mandate, it is conceivable that the Board members, executive management, all other levels of management, staff and contractors, will from time to time come across situations in which their integrity, honesty and accountability may be put to the test.

A frame of reference, based on agreed organisational values is therefore required to describe our standards and ethical behaviour when dealing with our stakeholders.

The King Report refers to a company’s code of ethics as the principles, norms and standards it promotes for the guidance and conduct of its activities, internal relations and interactions with external stakeholders. In this regard, companies are expected to instil a culture of conduct based on generally accepted standards of behaviour.

This Code of Ethics, which is applicable to the above-mentioned groups, should be used as a frame of reference to shape our behaviour and thus ensure that we behave consistently in accordance with agreed behavioural standards.

Fraud Preventation Policy Overview

What is Fraud? Fraud is the crime of obtaining money, other assets or benefits for personal gain by deliberate deception, dishonesty or unethical behaviour. It normally results in the draining of tangible and/or intangible value from an entity. Tangible examples include cash and other physical assets, while intangible examples comprise intellectual property, image and brand. This list is not a comprehensive list as there are many devious means of committing fraud.

GammaTec's Approach to Fraud The direct responsibility of management at all levels is to implement systems and controls to prevent and detect fraud and corruption, and this forms the departure point of the plan.

Corporate Culture and Code of Ethics The King Report refers to a company's code of ethics as the principles, norms and standards it promotes for guidance and conduct of its activities, internal relations and interactions with external generally accepted standards of behaviour.

Measures to reduce the probability of fraud A proactive approach to create an environment that promotes honest and open corporate staff behaviour must be followed. Management at all levels, with the Audit and Risk as the oversight function, must ensure that the following measures are in place:

i) effective controls to safeguard the assets and intellectual property of the Corporation. Responsibilities must be unambiguously assigned to effect these and other controls, to prevent and manage the incidence of fraud.

ii) statutory and internal audits focused on likely areas of fraud, to be performed to test fraud probability reduction measures (internal controls).

iii) pre-screening of staff.iv) annual disclosure of interests by staff.v) encouragement of personnel to speak out when they have concerns.

vi) the training of all employees on fraud awareness and to whom suspected fraud should be reported. Material for training should include the contents of this Fraud Prevention Plan.

Reaction and Investigating GammaTec will maintain a policy of zero tolerance towards fraud and, without exception, react quickly to all suspected incidents of fraud.
