The Story of JWOD and AbilityOneIn 1938 Congress enacted, and President Franklin Roosevelt signed, the Wagner-O’Day Act. The Act was designed to use the purchasing power of the Federal government to create opportunities for workers who were blind. In 1971, Senator Jacob Javits championed a revision of the Act that included people with other disabilities, while adding services to the products already covered by the Wagner-O’Day Act. In 2006, the Javits-Wagner-O’Day Program was renamed the AbilityOne Program.

AbilityOne TodayToday, AbilityOne is managed by The Commission, an independent federal agency, with assistance from National Industries for the Blind (NIB), and SourceAmerica® (formerly National Industries for the Severely Handicapped) in the implementation and execution of the program.

Because of the JWOD Act, more than 600 associated non-profit agencies around the country have generated more than 48,000 jobs for Americans who are blind or have other severe disabilities through the delivery of products and services to the federal government. In fact, NIB and its associated agencies, under the AbilityOne Program, represent the single largest employment program for people who are blind.

1. DETERMINE THE PROPER CAN LINER TYPE FOR YOUR APPLICATIONThere are two primary resins commonly used in the manufacturing of can liners. To decide which one you need, answer this question: “Are sharp objects being thrown away?”If the answer is yes, you need Linear Low Density.If the answer is no, select High Density.

2. WHAT SIZE CONTAINER DOES THE LINER NEED TO FIT?• Ideally, there should be a 3” – 4” overhang over the top of the trash receptacle• Check the gallon capacity or size printed on your container

CONTROLLED LIFE-CYCLE PLASTICSControlled Life-Cycle Plastics have similar performance properties of ordinary plastic bags except that they are modified to accelerate aging in a process that safely returns the organic carbon, from which plastic is made, to the natural bio-cycle as a food source for microorganisms.

ASTM 6400 COMPOSTABLE BAGSASTM 6400 Compostable bags are engineered for composting and the collection of organic waste. Our compostable bags will typically degrade in 10 to 45 days and biodegrade in less than six months in a commercial compost facility. ASTM 6400 Compostable bags meet the stringent requirements of ASTM D6400 and carry the USCC and BPI certifications.

The ™ Sandless Sandbag is a revolutionary water barrier, providing a more secure method for protecting property against flood waters and leaks from broken pipes, water heaters and other sources of liquid. ™ is a replacement for a typical sandbag and is positioned to revolutionize disaster recovery in the future. ™consists of a hydrophilic, non-woven cover and four layers of a patented blend of superabsorbent polymers and natural fluff which absorbs water to 90% capacity in less than three minutes.
