Powerful and compact ABB world renowned CLMD capacitors with a specially designed ventilation system allow ABB capacitor banks to reach a maximum reactive power within a minimum volume.

Easy to select Wall mounted capacitor banks are available in two versions: – Single step module and two step modules

Free standing capacitor banks are available in six versions: – Indoor fan-forced cooling series:

- 1500mm, 1800mm, 2100mm and 2400mm high – Outdoor series: 2170mm high

- Fan-forced, refrigerated and water-cooled; additional auxiliary units can be ordered and installed in parallel to increase overall capacity

Reliable and safeThe reliability of ABB capacitor banks is based on a set of ABB components exclusively designed for reactive power compensation applications.ABB capacitor banks come with IP31 & 52 for indoor installation and IP54 & IP64 for outdoor use.

Easy to install – Fully assembled, factory tested and ready for connection – Commissioning may be completely automatic – Ample space for control wires and power cables – Lifting lugs can be ordered for ease of handling – Multiple indoor cubicles units can be separated

for transport purposes

Easy to useThe multiple automatic functions of the power factor correction controller and its user-friendly interface make the ABB capacitor bank very simple to operate.

Modular designAllows installation of additional power and switch modules as well as various configurations. Additional units may be connected in parallel.

OptionsCircuit breakers, isolators, rapid discharge resistors, blown fuse indication, alarms and sirens can be ordered and factory fitted.

Low lossesCapacitor total losses are less than 0.5 watts per kvar. Total losses (without reactors), including accessories such as power factor controller and contactors are less than 1.5 watts per kvar.

Unique sequential protection systemEnsures that each individual capacitor element is selectively and reliably disconnected from the circuit at the end of its life.

Life cycleLow losses and the self-healing properties of ABB capacitor elements help to ensure a long operating life.

SafetyABB capacitors are manufactured with vermiculite, a non-flammable and non-toxic material. The dry vermiculite safely absorbs any energy produced within the capacitor enclosure and prevents any fire hazard in case of failure.

RVC Controller ABBACUS is simple and easy to operate thanks to the automatic functions provided by the RVC controller:

ABB capacitorsThe dielectric of the capacitor windings is made of in-house metallised polypropylene film resulting in exceptional properties:

ABB UA contactorsContactors have been specifically selected for their excellent handling capability during endurance tests.

VentilationAll ABB capacitor banks are equipped with a ventilation system specially selected for their longevity. The capacitor bank ventilation system consists of fans with temperature-dependent probes which provide the fans with the necessary thermal data. In case of temporary overheating, the capacitor bank is automatically deactivated.

Detuned installationThe presence of harmonics might seriously overstress the capacitors, resulting in technical issues or premature ageing.

In such cases, a proven answer is to protect the capacitors with series reactors. These reactors detune the circuit to a frequency below the 5th harmonic which is the most significant harmonic present in power networks.
