So dont be troubled or afraid. John 14:27 "So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. John 13:34 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. John 1:17 Who Else Proclaims? What is the point?Demythologizing the New TestamentDibelius: These speeches, without doubt, are as they stand inventions of the authorBultmann: a historical fact which involves a resurrection from the dead is utterly inconceivable!they sailed to Cyprusthe proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence. "Luke's history is unsurpassed in respect of its trustworthiness Luke is a historian of the first rank; not merely are his statements of fact trustworthy . . . this author should be placed along with the very greatest historiansSir William Ramsay, The Bearing of Recent Discovery on the Trustworthiness of the New Testament (Grand Rapids: Baker, 1953), p. 2226Taking ChancesBut going on from Perga, they arrived at Pisidian Antioch, and on the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down. After the reading of the Law and the Prophets the synagogue officials sent to them, saying, "Brethren, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say it." Acts 13:14-15

Paul=Dressed like a PHARISEE7The Religious Person (Acts 13:16-52)So Paul stood, lifted his hand to quiet them, and started speaking. Men of Israel, he said, and you God-fearing Gentiles, listen to me.The God of this nation of Israel chose our ancestors and made them multiply and grow strong during their stay in Egypt. Then with a powerful arm he led them out of their slavery. He put up with them through forty years of wandering in the wilderness.

Relig. = 40 Million Disenfranchised8The Religious Person (Acts 13:16-52)Then he destroyed seven nations in Canaan and gave their land to Israel as an inheritance. All this took about 450 years. After that, God gave them judges to rule until the time of Samuel the prophet. Then the people begged for a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, who reigned for forty years. But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do. And it is one of King Davids descendants, Jesus, who is Gods promised Savior of Israel!

Paul=Dressed like a PHARISEE9The Religious Person (Acts 13:16-52)John proclaimed before His coming a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. And while John was completing his course, he kept saying, 'What do you suppose that I am? I am not He. But behold, one is coming after me the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.'

10The Religious Person (Acts 13:16-52)Brothersyou sons of Abraham, and also you God-fearing Gentilesthis message of salvation has been sent to us! The people in Jerusalem and their leaders did not recognize Jesus as the one the prophets had spoken about. Instead, they condemned him, and in doing this they fulfilled the prophets words that are read every Sabbath. They found no legal reason to execute him, but they asked Pilate to have him killed anyway. It was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. We thought his troubles were a punishment from God,a punishment for his own sins! But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins.He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us, like sheep, have strayed away.We have left Gods paths to follow our own.Yet the LORD laid on him the sins of us all. Isaiah 53:4-6 11The Religious Person (Acts 13:16-52)We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life.1 John 1:1 For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyes 2 Peter 1:16 When they had done all that the prophecies said about him, they took him down from the cross and placed him in a tomb. But God raised him from the dead! And over a period of many days he appeared to those who had gone with him from Galilee to Jerusalem. They are now his witnesses to the people of Israel. 12The Religious Person (Acts 13:16-52)Another psalm explains it more fully: You will not allow your Holy One to rot in the grave. This is not a reference to David, for after David had done the will of God in his own generation, he died and was buried with his ancestors, and his body decayed. No, it was a reference to someone elsesomeone whom God raised and whose body did not decay. And now we are here to bring you this Good News: The promise was made to our ancestors, and God has now fulfilled it for us, their descendants, by raising Jesus. This is what the second psalm says about Jesus: You are my Son. Today I have become your Father. For God had promised to raise him from the dead, not leaving him to rot in the grave. He said, I will give you the sacred blessings I promised to David.13The Religious Person (Acts 13:16-52)14The Religious Person (Acts 13:16-52)"Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to youand through Him everyone who believes is freed from all thingshe set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying. Hebrews 2:15you could not be freed through the Law of Moses.because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin. Dont let the prophets words apply to you. For they said, Look, you mockers, be amazed and die! For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldnt believe even if someone told you about it.Just as it is written, "HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!" 16The Religious Person (Acts 13:16-52)As Paul and Barnabas were going out, the people kept begging that these things might be spoken to them the next Sabbath. Now when the meeting of the synagogue had broken up, many of the Jews and of the God-fearing proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, were urging them to continue in the grace of God.?? "For so the Lord has commanded us, 'I HAVE PLACED YOU AS A LIGHT FOR THE GENTILES, THAT YOU MAY BRING SALVATION TO THE END OF THE EARTH.'When the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord; and as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed.
