Metals and alloys have played a significant role since the ancient civilization to the

present day high technology age. Rapid economical growth, technological innovation,

increased needs of society and industrialization have ensured the increased demand of

metals. This results in concerns over sustainability because of the scarcity of natural and

high grade resources. On the other hand, waste management is also one of the key

problems of modern society because of the ever expanding volume and complexity of

discarded domestic and industrial wastes containing various metals. Therefore, the

immediate emphasis is to develop suitable technologies for the utilization of lean grade

ores, dumped ores, fines, slime, mine water, urban ores viz. industrial solid/ liquid,

electronic, municipal wastes etc. through energy efficient and environment friendly

processes with a view to meet the potential future requirements of various industries.

The conference will provide a global forum and unique opportunity to exchange and

discuss scientific information, technological innovations and applications amongst

experts and practitioners from different disciplines viz. industries, R&D

establishments, academia on a common platform for exploitation of lean grade ores, fines

and urban ores considering the challenges and problems.

Bring together global experts and practitioners from interdisciplinary areas,

industries, R&D establishments, academia as well as students on a common platform

for updating and sharing their experiences and knowledge to exploit lean grade and

urban ores.

Give an impetus to develop new technologies/processes to exploit lean grade ores,

fines and urban ores considering the challenges and problems.

Jamshedpur, also known as the Steel City or Tatanagar, is India's first cosmopolitan and plannedindustrial town. The city was founded by Late Jamshedji Nusserwanji Tata and is located in the EastSinghbhum district of Jharkhand. The surrounding areas of Jamshedpur are rich in minerals, including iron ore, coal, manganese, bauxite, kaolin, uranium, etc. Jamshedpur is situated at adistance of about 250 km and 131 km from Kolkata and Ranchi, respectively and very wellconnected to metropolitan cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai by rail. The nearest airdestinations to Jamshedpur are Kolkata (International Airport) and Ranchi (Domestic Airport). Inthe third/fourth week of January, the city has pleasant weather with an average temperature duringday in the range of 15- 20oC. Tata Steel established in 1907 has created significant landmark eventsin the history of corporate India. Starting from the discovery of iron ore mines to commissioning ofthe steel plant, from a pioneer to one of the world’s most diversified steel producers- the companyhas numerous milestone events to boast.

Jamshedpur, besides being an industrial hub in eastern India, is a popular tourist destinationsurrounded by the Dalma Hills, Subarnarekha and Kharkai rivers. The beauty of Dalma Hills isrepresented by the exotic ranges located at height 3000 ft above sea level, dense forests, vast reserveof rare and endangered species in wildlife sanctuary like wild elephants barking deer, leopards, slothbears, porcupines, birds and so on. The emerald green Jubilee Park, expanded over 225 acres isadorned with flower beds, gardens and illuminated fountains. The lush green gardens displaysvarieties of roses of different colours and sizes. The attractive feature of Jubilee Park is the colorfulfountains, lake, zoological park and laser show. The Centre of Excellence and Xavier Labor RelationsInstitute (XLRI), one of the prestigious business management institutes in Jamshedpur are located inthe proximity of Jubilee Park. Centre of Excellence is a complex with multifaceted surroundingsenclosing many professional and specialized organizations. The building structure is adorable withits architectural style and beauty. Presently this centre houses the Archives of Tata Steel, a worthycollection of origin and evolution of one of the largest industries in the world.
