Concept Paper " Project one was all about learning Illustrator and using the tools. The main tool of focus

were the pen and mask tools. New to Illustrator I struggled through a lot of things to begin with. When I started I found myself taking the long approach from the moment we started the pen tool practice on the vector image. As I got use to the program I found out shortcuts and I was able to use fewer points when I used the pen tool. This help my images to look less choppy and more curved. At first I thought that the pen tool was hard to get use to, then to add a mask on top I have to admit I was lost. The more I played with it the better I got. As you can see in my three views.

After practice we were given project one, to create a realistic technical illustration of an existing 3D object using Adobe Illustrator. In choosing my object I debated between tweezers or mascara. Going on with the mascara I thought I could create more dynamic views with the cap and bush coming apart. The bottle and the logo on the bottle gave an nice reflection. Making it easy to recreate the 3D affect of the object.

Recreating the 3D affect may have appeared easy to achieve but I quickly figure out that I was not the case. Quickly I learn that the layers panel was my best friend. I had to create individual sections of multiple parts of my mascara. After I figured out that I could not create it in huge sections my first major problem became the fact that I could not get my mask to cure the way I wanted. My mask would just go where ever it pleased. I learned after a little playing around that between the convert anchor point tool and adding more anchor points on my path before I masked I could created more of the look I was going for.

Another problem that I faced was creating the bristles on my mascara brush. I asked during critique if anyone had any ideas and no one gave me any response. So during the second critique I asked the second professor that came into critic us. He gave me a few suggestions about how to create it. One was to make the center of the brush and then make one bristle then duplicate that all around. I did that and I have to say it looked a little flat compared to the rest of the image. So then I made one big blob in the shape of the brush then I went in and masked that. After I masked I took and place just the brush in Photoshop where I rasterized the image. From there I lowered the opacity and had my template image behind as I would in Illustrator. I then zoomed way in to where I could see the pixels and used the eraser tool to erase part of my mask that did not belong. In the end the extra effort that I put in the project paid off and I was happy with my final product.
