PROJECT DESCRIPTION Establish process-structure linkages for AM30 Magnesium alloy during

channel-die compression.

These linkages will reveal the effect of process parameters like temperature, strain rate and % strain on the evolution of texture during channel-die compression.

Source of Dataset - Orientation map datasets generated from EBSD test done on channel die compressed samples are provided by Prof Haitham El Kadiri, Mississippi State University

PROCESS DATA Channel die tests allows the faces of the sample to remain plane

(homogeneous deformation) while being compressed and prevent any lateral spreading.

EBSD datasets containing orientation maps are generated at different processing conditions of temperature, strain rate and strain levelTemp(deg C) Strain rate (1/s)

PRESENT STATUS AND WAY FORWARD

Extracting orientations from .oim files and Image Segmentation

Microstructure function – h (crystal orientations)

Number of local states too high if we bin the microstructure using fundamental zone for hexagonal(depends on bin size)

Alternative approach is using GSH to generate n-point statistics
