ONE DAY TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR FARMERS ON
CULTIVATION OF MEDICINAL PLANTS
Date- 12/09/2018 Venue- Tourist Motel, Neemuch (M.P.)
One day training on medicinal plants cultivation for farmers of Neemuch and
surrounding areas was organized and conducted at Tourist Motel, Neemuch on 12th
September, 2018 with the co-operation of the staff of Neemuch Forest Division. The
training programme began with the registration of participants as per programme
schedule (Annexure-1). List of participants in enclosed as (Annexure-2).

INAUGURAL SESSION
A brief inaugural session was held with lighting of lamp by the dignitaries sitting on
the dais followed by their addresses and group photography of all the participants.

TECHNICAL SESSION
Technical session began with the presentation by Shri Rakesh Choudhary
nominated member of NMPB. In his presentation, Shri Choudhary called upon the
participants to adopt site and species specific cultivation of medicinal plants best suited to
their agro-climatic zones. He further advocated for organic farming and adoption of
appropriate scientific harvesting, packaging and transportation techniques. Many queries
raised by the trainees were replied by Shri Choudhary.

In the next presentation, Dr. Santosh Kuar Sharma, Consultant NMPB presented
various schemes of NMPB. He also stressed upon the use of e-charak mobile app.
Thereafter, Dr. Parvez Jalil, Consultant RCFC, Central Region, Jabalpur highlighted
the need of use of only quality planting material from known sources in cultivation of
medicinal plants for assured qualitative and quantitative enhancement.

Dr. C.P. Pachori and Dr. S.S. Sarangdeo from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Neemuch
emphasized to tap the potential of area with the adoption of advanced farming techniques
under the guidance of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Neemuch.
Dr. S.S. Saraswat, Asst. Director, Horticulture, in his detailed presentation, discussed
about the cultivation, harvesting, processing, grading, etc. of Ashwagandha.

Shri Sanjeev Shrivastava, Secretary, APMC, Neemuch explained about the various
schemes of APMC for marketing of medicinal plants. He also told about the use and scope of
mobile app e-NAM. Vaidya Shri Mangilal Nagda, in his address, stressed upon the
importance of Ayurvedic System of medicines, for living a healthy and long life.

Lastly, Shri S.K. Jain, Dy. Director, RCFC, Central Region, Jabalpur made a
presentation on good agricultural practices for medicinal plants. The training programme
ended with vote of thanks by Shri A.K. Hazari, Consultant, RCFC, Jabalpur.

The medicinal plants cultivators who attended the training programme were also
taken to APMC Neemuch, where Shri Dinesh Jain, Mandi Inspector explained the activities
and procedure of APMC Neemuch.

FEED BACK
A feedback form (Annexure-3) was made available to each participant. The
participants were asked to give their feedback about the objectives, contents, usefulness,
arrangement of the training, general information on cultivation, collection, processing,
value addition and marketing etc. of the medicinal plants. Most of the participants rated
the training programme from ‘good’ to ‘excellent’.
Participants also found the training useful in getting information about the
cultivation techniques of medicinal plants in general and that of Ashawgandha in
particular, quality planting material, organic farming, quality test, presence of active
ingredients in medicinal plants, etc.
Participants also requested to arrange trainings on organic cultivation techniques of
Tulsi, Isabgol, Ashawagandha, Safed Musli, Aonla, Giloy, Gurbel, Shivlingee, and aromatic
plants.
A few participants also suggested that these trainings should be of 3-4 days duration
including field visit. A booklet (in Hindi) containing information on various aspects of
medicinal plants, such as identification of plants, cultivation, collection, processing, storage,
packaging, value addition, etc. should also be made available to medicinal plant cultivators.
There should also be out of state exposure visits,.
