GARDENING CLUB

Last week at gardening club, our students helped the adults pre-pare, cook and bottle some of our produce.

Firstly, a big thank you to all of the parents and staff who supported our Mother’s Day stall. The sales made almost $400 for our Year 6 project club. We also appreciate your support of the pie drive. The contributions and support of families and the community are one of the reasons our school is such a wonderful place for children to learn.

Whether it is cooking for snack shop, helping with gardening club, being a parent voice on the P&C, on our organising committee for ‘Rewind 2000’or coming along to special events at school, your participation in school life means so much to your children. Getting to school and volunteering can sometimes be a challenge, but we also know that many of you are positive partners in the education of your children by encouraging them to attend school regularly and talking with them about what they are learning.

We are always looking for ways to improve our school and the way we partner with parents. If you have any great ideas about how you can be involved, we’d love to hear from you!

PLAYING OUR PART TO BUILD A NATIONAL PICTURE

OF CHILD HEALTH

In early 2021, our school, along with thousands of others across the country will begin prepa-rations for the fifth Australian Early Development Census (AEDC).

The AEDC gives us a national picture of the development, health and wellbeing of children in their first year of full-time school. Since 2009, the census results have helped communities, schools and governments plan services and develop better policies to target support for chil-dren and families.

Children don’t miss any class time, and parents/carers don’t need to supply schools with any new information for the census. The AEDC gives us data at a school and community level - it isn’t an assessment of individual children.

Some teachers have noticed that completing the assessments made them more aware of the needs of individual children and the class as a whole and that the census results are useful in planning for transitions to Year 1 and developing class programs.

Participation in the AEDC is voluntary. Parents/carers don’t need to take any action unless they choose not to include their children in the census.

To find out more about the census and how communities are using the data to help children and families visit the AEDC website: www.aedc.gov.au.

If you have any questions, you can contact Mrs Cavanagh or the office on 54 683 777.

MUSIC NEWS

Welcome back to Term 2 everyone:

CLASS WORK:

Our classes are all very busy at this time of the term:

The Grade 3/4 – 6’s are working through their new piece of class music on recorders, with the 3/4’s trying a 2 part arrangement of “Lucy Lockett”, while the 5/6’s are being introduced to the lowest notes playable on their instrument on a wonderful song about worms: “Nobody loves me-“

The Grade 1/2’s are continuing to develop their note and rhythm base, with their sim-ple melodies (See-Saw) being moved onto Boom-Whackers shortly. And they will then be bringing home their own copies of written melodies.

CHOIR:

A big thankyou to our Choir for your very meaningful item at our ANZAC service – our first public performance this year, and it was very special.

Brett Gredig.

Classroom Specialist and Choir Conductor.

Student Council: Congratulations to all our entrants for the “Name the event” competition. We had many wonderful ideas. The winner was “Rewind 2000” by Josie. She won a Smiggle surprise pack. Thank you to all who entered.

Rewind 2000: Our next meeting will be Monday 14th June at 3:15pm in the library. All wel-come!

Under 8’s Day: On Thursday 20th May, Prep-Year 2 will go to Under 8’s day at Flagstone Creek State School. The bus leaves at 8:45am. Stay tuned for pictures of this fun-filled day!

National Simultaneous Storytime: Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. On Wednesday 19th May, P-2 will participate in storytelling of the book “Give Me Some Space!”. NSS has been happening for 21 years. Last year more than 1, 200, 000 people listened at story time. This year, as part of NSS, we will be participating in an experiment with the Australian Space Agency in which a science demonstration conducted by astronauts on the International Space Station will emulate the heat balances between the sun/Earth/space. The experiment will use da-ta where students around Australia will collect their school’s temperature. This, along with satel-lite data, will be used to map the temperature of Australia. Astronauts will conduct a similar experiment on the International Space Station.

Mother’s Day: We hope all the mothers and caregivers had a lovely day and enjoyed the small gifts that their children made.

There is an old saying “write and sing about what you know”. For an au-thentic traditional Australian country sound, look no further than Bush Bal-lad Singer / Songwriter, Dean Perrett. Having been raised and still working on the family cattle property “Bowenfels”, a soul of pure country is a natural thing for Dean. Over the last 30 years, Dean has earned his place as one of Australia’s favorite Bush Balladeers and leading traditional Country Artists. With 4** Golden Guitars under his belt Dean’s creditability as a writer and singer of Australian bush songs goes unquestioned. Just like Dean the songs he writes and sings are very authentic and genuine. Dean has released 16 albums to date with his latest being “Earn your Spurs”. A bush ballad album with pure Australian heart & soul. This album truly highlights Dean’s versatility and dedication as an artist of traditional country music. **In 2021 Dean received his 5th Golden Guitar with “Six Decks to Darwin”.
