BASIC PROBLEM #6
Soal:
Sulphuric acid is pumped at 3 kg/s through a 60 m length of smooth 25 mm pipe.
Calculate the drop in pressure. If the pressure drop falls by one half, what will be the new
flowrate ? Density of acid D 1840 kg/m3. Viscosity of acid D 25 mN s/m2.
Diketehui:
- Massa H2SO4 (m) = 3 kg/s
- Panjang pipa (l) = 60 m
-Diameter pipa (d) = 25 mm = 0,025 m
- Density of acid (ρ) = 1840 kg/m3
- Viskositas of acid (μ) = 25 mN s/m2 = 25 x 10-3 N s/m2
Ditanya :
If the pressure drop falls by one half, what will be the new flowrate?
Penyelesaian :
Luas Penampang (A)
A = x 3,14 x (0,025 m)2
= 4,9 x 10-4
= 0,00049 m2
Volumetric of acid
V =
=
= 1,630 x 10-3 m3/s
= 0,00163 m3/s
Velocity (Kecepatan) of acid
ν = = = 3,3265 m/s
Reynold Number
Re = = = 6120 kg/m2 s
From fig 3.4 for a smooth pipe and Re = 6120, so = 0,0043
Jadi,
= (4) (0,0043)
= 840490,032 N/m2
= 840,490032 kN/m2
If the pressure drop falls by one half :
= 420245,016 , Fig 3.6 may be used to
calculate the new flowrate :
( = = 80546,9614
From fig 3.6 : (R/ρν2) Re2 = 80546,9614 so, Re = 3800
The new flow (ν`) = = = = 2.06 m/s
And the Mass flowrate = ν` A ρ
= 2.06 m/s 0,00049 m2 1840 kg/m3
= 1.86 kg/s

BASIC PROBLEM #3
Soal :
Compressed gas is distributed from a works in cylinders which are filled to a pressureP by connecting them to a large reservoir of gas which remains at a steady pressure Pand temperature T. If the small cylinders are initially at a temperature T and pressure P0,what is the final temperature of the gas in the cylinders if heat losses can be neglectedand if the compression can be regarded as reversible? Assume that the ideal gas laws are applicable.
Diketahui :
T1 = T
P1 = P0
P2 = P
Adiabatic Q = 0
Ditanya :
