At the Fair

Make your rounds, spending the most time at colleges on your list, but

making sure you at least glance at other possibilities. There may be

other schools there that would be a good fit too. Keep an open mind.

At each table

Give your contact cards to the schools you want more information from.

Talk to reps and ask questions so they “get to know” you better

Pick up any materials they have to offer so you can look at it later.

College reps want to talk to you. (It’s their JOB!)

College RepsCollege reps are there to pitch their

schools and woo new applicants. Do not mistake a rep’s cheery

optimism about your GPA and test scores for actual admissions savvy.

Check out the school’s incoming freshman class profile before going

to the trouble of applying.

Good questions to ask!

What are the admission requirements? What majors are offered? What’s the most popular? How can I arrange a campus visit? What is the average classroom size? What type of housing is available?

What’s it like on campus on the weekend? What is the financial aid options are offered? How much will it cost? How long should I expect to wait for an answer once I submit my application? How is the library? What special interest groups, activities, fraternities/sororities are available?

Afterward

Discuss what you saw. Make notes. Were there schools to add to your list or research further? Did new questions arise? Now it’s time to go online, take a

closer look at those university websites, and arrange a campus

visits.
