President’s Report
Hi Fellow Probians
My how the months just fly! It has been another busy month but oh so enjoyable!
Firstly I wish to formally inform you of Rosemary Ledder’s resignation from PAWA as
the editor of the News & Notes. She has done a wonderful job over the last 2 years
and she will be sadly missed. However, on the brighter side a number of Probians have
been in contact with me offering their service and this is very pleasing indeed.
Trish Floyd published her first ProbusWest magazine and the result is nothing more
than fantastic. So keep your stories and pictures coming in to her.
This month I visited Whitfords and Sorrento Combined clubs and the friendship I
received illuminates that the 3 Fs are well and truly practiced in the clubs.
My friend Elva Letts accompanied me to Sorrento and she was similarly impressed.
The New Presidents Lunch was held at St Ives in Murdock, organized by the
Immediate Past President Graeme Brown also during the month of June. What im-
pressed me the most was the networking that started with a pre-lunch drink and
continued throughout the meal?
Another date for your diary is Thursday 29th October , the PAWA sub-committee
head by Jenny McCaughan is organizing a morning tea at the South Perth Zoo.
Not only is it a great setting but also entertaining.
This month I am off to the following clubs: Mosman Park Combined, Rossmoyne Com-
bined and Murdock Combined along with attending a Christmas in July luncheon hosted
by Fremantle Ladies’. The visiting is one of the highlights of being President.
DON’T FORGET the PAST PRESIDENT’S LUNCH in AUGUST!
I wish you all a safe and happy July
Yours in Probus
Elizabeth

Report on PSPL Briefing Weekend. Graeme Brown and I were invited to attend the PSPL briefing meeting for Rotary District Probus Chairmen in Sydney last weekend. This invitation was extended to us as a result of PAWA's expanded role to support Probus and Probus Clubs in WA under the Memorandum of Understanding signed with PSPL last September. I really appreciated the opportunity to participate in this RPDC briefing weekend and to meet with the PSPL Board Members and RDPC from around Australia and NZ. A highlight for me was meeting and communicating with all these folks who were working in the best interests of Probus. Much information to help progress Probus was shared and discussed. You would have all seen Past PSPL Chairman Peter Carroll’s the letter of 3rd June in which he provided an insight into PSPL's good financial performance and also the current issues that the Board are wrestling with. It was good have new PSPL Chairman Douglas Geekie confirm that PSPL was back on a good track at the meeting. I am told that the PSPL report for the 2014-15 year PSPL Annual Report will be available late July on the PSPL web-site. Clubs will be advised when it is posted. The PSPL Board has a strong focus on the growth and development of Probus in the com-ing year. As you all know membership development is vital to ensure your Club can sustain itself. This important activity was on the agenda at all the Information Days. For your information PAWA will be conducting a membership development workshop in September. Yours in Probus Darrell Darrell Williams Secretary Probus Association of WA

FAREWELL—After two plus years it is time for me to hand over the reins of
News & Notes to someone else. I sincerely trust one of our many Probus members in WA will step forward and be-
come part of the PAWA team.
I have found the experience rewarding in that I now know more about the role of
PAWA, how hard they work in keeping WA Club members informed and the endeav-
ours in place to maintain an excellent working relationship with Probus South
Pacific Ltd . I encourage you all at some stage (if you are in the position to do so )to take on an
active role within PAWA.
Thank you to the Committees of PAWA during my tenure and to all WA Clubs for
your support and encouragement.
May you continue to enjoy all that Probus has to offer.
FUN, FRIENDSHIP & FELLOWSHIP Yours in Probus
Rosemary

LEAVING YOU WITH A SMILE (Thanks to Graeme from Bannister Creek Club)
Students in an advanced Biology class were taking their mid-term exam. The last question was, 'Name seven advantages of Mother's Milk.
The question was worth 70 points or none at all. One student, in particular, was hard put to think of seven advantages. However, he wrote:
1) It is perfect formula for the child. 2) It provides immunity against several diseases. 3) It is always the right temperature. 4) It is inexpensive. 5) It bonds the child to mother, and vice versa 6) It is always available as needed.
And then the student was stuck. Finally, in desperation, just before the bell rang indicating the end of the test, he wrote:
7) It comes in two attractive containers and it's high enough off the ground where the cat can't get it.
He got an A.

“LEATHER AND LACE” A GREAT LOCAL DUO. For more information:- Contact: Terry 0408333730 or email [email protected] Please book in early. NEWSLETTER EXCHANGE The other thing I am trying to get started among the South West Clubs is a newsletter exchange. This is not a competition and I know the newsletters vary widely and a few clubs don’t have one, however I have found that clubs have very little contact with one another and no idea about the way other clubs operate. Basically all South West clubs are invited to email a copy of their Newsletter to me and I have addresses for all the other clubs and will send them out as long as I have your approval to do so. Thanks to the clubs that have started sending their Newsletters in, I hope to hear from more of you in the future.
