e PRMT Launches InterRAT Option For 2G/3G Handover Analysis

Pacific Rim Mobile Technologies (PRMT) is pleased to announce the 2G/3G interRAT option for it’s

industry leading AP-6000 UMTS/W-CDMA Air Protocol Analyzer.

The Air Protocol Analyzer provides a unique set of tools which allows for the testing of the air interface between User Equipment (UE) and Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) in 3GPP networks. Used by cellular manufacturers, network operators and developers around the world, the APA products allow researchers and development engineers to perform in-depth testing of all three layers of the Uu protocol stack with a reliable and standardized tool.

The fast implementation and growth of 3G/W-CDMA networks and products, and the necessity to maintain compatibility with existing 2G/GSM networks, present many new challenges to the network operators, equipment manufacturers, system integrators and application developers.

As 3G networks are being gradually deployed on top of 2G networks there is the necessity to support handovers between the two technologies with minimal impact to the user. Testing this kind of situations in a controlled

environment before the actual systems are running live is a key factor to ensure a smooth and seamless integration.

At the same time, the ability to troubleshoot problems in live networks and identify the source of the errors in such complex environment it is a difficult task and requires a powerful tool capable of analyzing the air interface in detail.

The new InterRAT function of the AP-6000 traces a specific UE throughout the GSM/W-CDMA handover providing detailed and complete information on the Um & Uu messages. The InterRAT option provides a full band GSM/GPRS receiver unit (850MHz, 900MHz, 1.8GHz, 1.9GHz) and a decode hardware module.

Along with its W-CDMA, HSDPA and HSUPA capabilities, this new feature makes the AP-6000 a complete and essential UMTS/GSM air interface test equipment.
