December 2009 Private Doctor Service Bene Finlandia Inc. opts for Konica Minolta CR. Privately owned Doctor Service Bene Finlandia Inc. has been operating in Levi - Lapland from 2003. Levi is the largest Finnish skiing centre situated in the Kittilä area, some 200 km north of the Arctic Circle. Levi Hospital employs six physicians and three nurses during the winter season, while the Ruka Hospital only has two physicians and two nurses on staff. The main goal of the Bene Finlandia Inc. is to provide fast and efficient medical care. Recently the company has invested in a new digital computed radiography system, aiming for a smoother and more effective operation. Before Christmas 2009, a Konica Minolta Image Pilot CR system has been installed in both hospitals. The CR-system was provided by LifeMed Inc., a company specialized in medical imaging with a good 30 years of experience in Finland. Levi skiing centre has 23.000 beds, and the busiest tourism season is during wintertime, when the 26 ski elevators and 45 slopes are active. The municipal population increases by five times during the busiest periods. Private doctoral services are needed, since the capacity of the local public health services is insufficient and unable to coop with the increased number of patients. This has been openly admitted by the public healthcare services. The Levi skiing resort is aiming for full customer service, of which safety on the slopes and surroundings is an essential part. The customers are on holiday, which is often just for a short time and this can be hectic. Should an accident occur, for example while skiing; it is imperative that the feeling of safety is maintained. Since doctoral services, including radiography services and a full small trauma treatment capability are located at close proximity, valuable time can be saved and treatment is most effective. The other option would be to travel as far as 200 km to Rovaniemi, where the nearest X-ray facility at Levi Hospital is located, says Jouni Palosaari, C.E.O. of Levi Ski Resort Ltd. The goal of Doctor Service Bene Finlandia Inc. is to provide effective medical care. The Hospitals are open every day from December 20 th to the end of April, as long as the slopes are open or as long as otherwise needed. The nearest slopes are situated 300m from the Hospitals. Bene Finlandia C.E.O., Aki Lumme, M.D. and specialist of anaesthesiology, says the number of patients is growing steadily; the percentage of foreign tourists is remarkably high. The treatment protocols for treatment of skiing injuries and other tourism-related injuries have stabilized. Investing in new digital imaging systems has created space for other use. Another beneficial feature is that we now have our own digital x-ray picture archive in-house. Digital x-ray images are stored in DICOM format, and the customers receive their own copy on CD, to easily facilitate further treatment in their own region or country. The Image Pilot system was launched in 2008 and it is especially well suited for small private hospitals such as these. In addition LifeMed provides complete service and support. Use of the Image Pilot system is easy and user-friendly, ensures Reijo Isoviita, the product manager of LifeMed Inc. + Father Christmas as the legend says comes from Rovaniemi, located 200km south of Levi.
