Course Objectives
This course is designed to help students evaluate the exciting field of aviation as a career or hobby. The program prepares the student for successfully passing the FAA private pilot written exam. Upon passing completion of the course the student will receive an endorsement to take the FAA Private Pilot Written. This course may be completed in conjunction with or completely independent of Flight Training Lessons The course will cover the following aeronautical knowledge topics: Principles of flight, Charts, Navigation, Aircraft Systems, Environmental Factors, Aviation Operations, Aircraft Structure and Capability, Radio Communication, Meteorology, Air Traffic Control procedures and FAA Regulations. The student has the choice of either a conventional 10.5 week course which entails 2.5 hours 2 nights/week (42.5 hours of training), or an expedited 3 weekend course which entails 7 hours/day for 6 days (44.5 hours of training). This course is for an airplane.
Perquisites for Enrollment
There are no requirements to enroll in the Private Pilot Ground School as the course is independent of Flight Training. A person enrolling in this course in conjunction with the enrollment in our 141 Private Pilot Course must hold either a recreational pilot certificate, sport pilot certificate, or student pilot certificate before enrolling in the solo phase of the Private Pilot Certification Course

Ground Training Facilities
Ground instruction facilities are housed in two facilities, described below. The training rooms are located in the operations offices attached to the Aircraft Solutions d/b/a Northwest Flight School on Spokane International Airport at 8125 W Pilot Drive Spokane WA 99224 (Facility 1) and 5505 E Rutter Ave Spokane WA 99212 (Facility 2)
1. Facility 1 (KGEG)-Training room 1: (see diagram) dimensions are 26.5'x19' with two entry/exit doors. The room will accommodate a maximum of 12 students. A 48”x27" Vizio flat-screen television permanent equipment providing access to a CD/DVD player, virtual test prep software and a Garmin GPS simulator. A 33.5”x22” Whiteboard and Easel are available as non-permanent equipment.
2. Facility 1 (KGEG)- Training room 2: (see diagram) dimensions are 9’7”x13’10” with one entry/exit door. The room will accommodate a maximum of 6 students. A 3’x4’ whiteboard permanent equipment.
3. Facility 1 (KGEG)– Training room 3: (see diagram) dimensions are 26.5’x36’ with three entry/exit doors. The room will accommodate a maximum of 28 students. A 4’x6’ whiteboard permanent equipment.
4. Facility 2 (KSFF)– Training room 1: measures 12’x10’ with one entry/exit door. The room will accommodate a maximum of 6 students. Teaching equipment includes one 36”x48” whiteboard, one computer and current sectional charts. The computer provides access to a CD/DVD player, virtual test prep software and a Garmin GPS simulator.
5. Facility 2 (KSFF)- Training room 2: measures 10’x20’ with one entry/exit door. The room will accommodate a miximum of 12 students. Teaching equipment includes one 48”x48” whiteboard, one LCD projector, one computer providing access to a CD/DVD player, virtual test prep software, and a Garmin GPS simulator.
6. Both training facilities meet or exceed all local building, health and sanitation codes. Restrooms are provided in the building. Each room is well lit and has separate thermostat controls for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. The rooms are designed and located so that students will not be distracted by instruction conducted in other rooms or by airport operations.
Training Aids
The following audiovisual and training aids will be provided for use in one and/or each ground training room: Computer with Internet access in Training room 1. CD/DVD player. ASAs Virtual Test Prep DVD series. 12x12 mock ups of flight instruments; Magnetic compass, altimeter, turn and bank coordinator, attitude
indicator and heading indicator. ASAs Classroom Trainer E6-B Computer. Current Sectional charts. Drawing Board I-pad to display drawing instructions on Flat-screen 48”x27” Visio Flat-screen Television.

Flight Operations
Spokane International Airport (GEG) is the main operations base for training in this course. The facilities are used exclusively by students, air taxi pilots, aircraft salesmen, itinerant pilots, and regular customers of Aircraft Solutions d/b/a Northwest Flight School. The facility is equipped with a pilot briefing area that is 12 X 9.5 feet (see diagram on following page). The briefing area is located in the Aircraft Solutions main building at Spokane International Airport. Both briefing areas are equipped telephones for obtaining weather information and filing flight plans. There are several tables available in each area for flight planning. The briefing areas have a full set of aeronautical charts, including the current AIM. The local practice areas are shown and described on a detailed chart posted on the wall. Felts Field Airport (SFF) in Spokane WA is a satellite operation base for training in this course. The facilities are used by students, air taxi pilots, aircraft salesmen, itinerant pilots, and regular customers of Aircraft Solutions d/b/a Northwest Flight School. The facility is equipped with a two training rooms to be used as briefing areas for students during applicable hours of lessons. These briefing areas are located in the Northwest Flight School building location at Felts Field airport at 5505 E Rutter Ave Spokane WA 99212. Both briefing areas are equipped telephones for obtaining weather information and filing flight plans. There are several tables available in each area for flight planning. The briefing areas have a full set of aeronautical charts, including the current AIM. The local practice areas are shown and described on a detailed chart posted on the wall.
Instructor Qualifications
Each flight instructor assigned to this course must be the holder of at least a Ground Instructor Certificate or a Certified Flight Instructor Certificate in an airplane single engine or multi engine land.

Objective: The objective of Stage 1 is for the student to become proficient in, and have an understanding of the materials presented in Lessons 1-3. The subjects will include:

Stage 3 Private Pilot Ground Course
Objective:
The objective of Stage 1 is for the student to become proficient in, and have an understanding of the materials presented in Lessons 10-13. The subjects will include:
Content:
1. Aircraft Performance 2. En-Route Flight 3. Navigation 4. Communications
Completion Standards:
Stage 1 will be complete when the student is able to pass a written exam derived from the ASA Practice Written Test with a score of at least 80%.
