Executive Summary

Kindergarten is a very important time in a child’s life. It is thebeginning of the elementary school years and a formal education ingeneral. Kids Campus believes this is the time that a child isdeveloping their perception of “school” as either an opportunity tosucceed or fail. At Kids Campus, our most basic and fundamentalbelief is that every experience and opportunity provided through ourprograms should increase a child’s feelings of self-worth and buildself-esteem. A child who feels valued and respected, will in turn, haveconfidence and the belief that he or she is capable of anything--thereis nothing more powerful.

The Kids Campus Kindergarten Program was built upon thisphilosophy. It is our goal and commitment to prepare the students forfirst grade and beyond through academically rich activities, exploration, and mental challenges. Through nurturing and positiveguidance, our students will develop critical thinking and problemsolving skills through open-ended, child directed activities. Webelieve a positive experience in the early years will instill a love forlearning that will last a lifetime.

Overview

The Kids Campus Kindergarten Program is a full-day program. This nine-month program begins the lastMonday in August and ends the first Friday in June of the following year (approximately). The dailyprogram begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. The kindergarten day includes a hot lunch, two snackperiods, outside play time, and at least 300 classroom curriculum minutes (5 hrs.) each day, (which exceedsthe State’s requirement). The course of study is consistent with the requirements of Nevada RevisedStatutes Chapter 394.030. To be accepted into our Kindergarten program, the child must be five years ofage by September 30. A copy of the child’s birth certificate must be submitted at enrollment time.

Kindergarten TeachersKids Campus has a minimum of one licensed Kindergarten Teacher and an Assistant Teacher(s). The Stateof Nevada Department of Education has licensing and certification standards for all public and privateschool teachers. The Kids Campus Kindergarten Teachers meet all applicable standards.

Student to Teacher RatioThe maximum student to teacher ratio will be 15:1, with a no more than 30 students allowed in theprogram. We believe this lower ratio of students will allow a more personalized educational program.

Kindergarten CurriculumThe Kindergarten course of study adheres to the requirements of Nevada Revised Statutes, Kids Campususes a State approved curriculum created by Saxon for the Language Arts (which includes phonics andreading) and math programs. Additional learning programs and educational activities are incorporated toenhance the base curriculum.

Grading PolicyThis grading policy is a skills based policy, where each assessment is designed to strengthen learning andteaching. Children learn at different rates, therefore individual student progress is the goal. We believethe letter grading system can be detrimental at the kindergarten level. Kids Campus uses the followingreporting key: B (beginning), D (developing), S (secure) is designed to recognize the confidence inchildren’s learning. Please refer to the reporting key below. By working together, parents and educatorscan help children succeed in learning.

B- Child is beginning to demonstrate the skill/behavior. D- Child is developing toward effective/consistent demonstration of the skill/behavior. S- Child is secure and consistently demonstrates the skill/behavior.

We believe that self-esteem is critical, therefore, every attempt at developing self esteem will be made.Report cards will be prepared on a semester basis (2 times per school year). This grading policy isapproved by the Department of Education. In addition, ongoing assessment of each student’sdevelopment is performed, and adjustments are made to ensure the unique educational needs of eachstudent are met.
