1L is stressful, and includes more work than there is time to complete. This sets off weird sleep-cycles in many students, as they stay up late to get work done, or they have trouble sleeping from stress.

Shutting down work and mental activity not only reduces stress, but helps stabilize sleep-cycles.

Following is a priority map of behaviors that can facilitate and lead students to shut down early every night.

Time your end of day ritualso that you know when to stop

Plan leisure activities to end of day

Time each day’s activitiesto fit within the day

Set a phone reminder (alarm)at your desired “stop time”

Choose a stop time

Dim lights 2 hoursbefore your “stop time” Buy non-caffeinated drinks

for evening consumption

Move sources of entertainment(books, games, tv) out of bedroom

Identify which items inyour room are sleep criticalMove non-sleep critical items

away from bed

Install f.lux on your computers

Move workstation out of your bedroom

Leave your apartment to work

Activate “Do not disturb”or some alternate

Do a short meditation at your stop time

Plan your day to docritical work first

Set up a charge station faraway from your bed

Get light-blocking blinders

Find sleep support groupat nearby health center

Attend QS conference

Buy sleep monitor

Attend Digital Health conference
