Create PT - Guidelines Before Starting
Prior to attempting a Performance Task, you should:
● Obtain content knowledge and skills that will help you succeed on the performance tasks. (previous Practice PT projects)
● Practice either the entire task or components of the tasks. (previous Practice PT projects)● Review the rubrics to understand how your work will be assessed. (On my website)● Examine examples of performance task submissions at high, medium and low levels. To avoid potential
plagiarism issues, consider carefully how you will cite these appropriately as you create your own computational artifacts for each performance task. If you choose a similar topic, your treatment of the topic must be unique. (On my website)
● Pay attention to the instructions concerning the size of the file to be uploaded. (review instructions below)● Ensure you know the proper way to evaluate and appropriately cite a source, including program code and
tools. Any program code which has not been written by you must be cited and credit given to the author. (See Tools section below)
● Understand the level of detail expected in writing your responses.
Create-Specific Items:
1
● Ensure you know effective ways to collaborate and what is expected in peer to peer collaboration.● Practice writing responses that cite evidence of collaboration and the exchange of feedback (e.g., my partner
told me that my coding related to xxx was incorrect, so I changed it to xxx. Then I retested the coding, and the program function improved.)
● Obtain programming support as needed while practicing the skills needed to complete the performance task assessment.
● Make sure you understand how to identify an algorithm in your program.● Make sure you understand how to identify an abstraction in your program.● Make sure you know how to create a video of yourself using your program.
Create PT - Checklist
Checklist of steps to complete the Performance Task. ● Planning and wireframing ideas● Creating a program● Getting feedback● Responding to peer feedback● Creating A Video● Writing about the program and the process
Create PT - Part 1
DONE? Part 1:Program Code
● Demonstrate use of effectively integrated mathematical and logical concepts from the language you are using.
● Demonstrate implementation of an algorithm that integrates other algorithms and integrates mathematical and/or logical concepts; and
● Demonstrates development and use of abstractions to manage complexity of your program (e.g., functions, abstractions provided by the programming language, APIs)
What is it?A screen shot or a copy & paste of your javascript code.
File Size Limitationsnone
Acceptable File Types:Online Digital Portfolio PDF with notations (see site for details)
Create PT - Part 2
DONE? Part 2:Video
● Demonstrates the running of at least one significant feature of your program.
What is it?A video or screen capture.
File Size Limitations30 MB Max1 minute long
Acceptable File Types:.mp4, .wmv., .avi, or .mov
Create PT - Part 3
DONE? Part 3:Written Responses
● Submit 1 PDF file in which you respond directly to each prompt.
● Clearly label your responses 2a-2d in order.● Responses should not exceed 750 words
combined.
What is it?A .pdf file
File Size Limitations750 words
Acceptable File Types:.pdf

Create PT - Tools
How to make a video: You will need to use screen capture software. Here are two good options. * Online/Web: Screencast-o-matic (may require download depending on browser/plugins) * Windows / Mac: Jing from Techsmith (requires download)
How to Cite Sources:CitationMachine.netThese are some of the sources you will find under “Other”:
● Software: http://www.citationmachine.net/apa/cite-a-software/manual

● Cartoon/Comic: http://www.citationmachine.net/apa/cite-a-cartoon/manual ● Digital File (PPT, PDF, etc.): http://www.citationmachine.net/apa/cite-a-digital/manual
How to Create a PDF:Copy and paste your text version of your code into a document. Then follow the steps below to create a PDF file.
● From Google Docs: click File, Download As… and select PDF.● From Microsoft Word: click File, Export, Create PDF.
