System Controller 220 and Data Station 120Using job files as input, the Scitex System Controller 220 processes dataand commands and forwards information required for printing to ScitexData Station 120 modules. Job files can reside on the controller’s harddrive, a network drive, Jaz® cartridge, 3.5-inch disk or magnetic tape.System software accommodates multi-volume magnetic tape files byspooling them to disk.

The System Controller 220 is the heart of the system. It houses operatingand application software, and provides a user-friendly operator interfaceconsisting of a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Each controller can run upto four data stations, representing a total of 16 printheads in any combinationof single or stitched heads.The System Controller 220, together with theData Station 120’s increased font memory (64 MB or 256 MB), provideshigh-speed throughput of print runs.

Print StationA print station houses the electronicsand software that manage the pumps,valves and filters that control the flowof ink, replenisher and cleaning fluids forthe Scitex continuous inkjet printheads.The print station also controls variousphysical properties of fluids – includingtemperature, pressure and inkconcentration.

Data PrepJob files are created in either IJPDS or MPC format, using Scitex MailScape,Jetscape, Composer or MPC4 datapreparation software. Files contain allthe information needed to print thejob, including font identification, fontbitmaps, image position and fixed andvariable data.
