Borgo Egnazia is a living tale of Puglia, told by the ancient culture of the land and by the sheer beauty of its architecture. It is located in the heart of Puglia, in Savelletri di Fasano, a town of fishermen, ladies embroidering in front of their small white houses and colorful clotheslines. A few steps away from the hotel and the Adriatic coast lie the slopes of the Murgia Hills and the Itria Valley. The resort boasts beautiful rooms and confortable villas. It offers many activities for single travelers and families alike, with golf and spa treatments.

Lecce, the Baroque City Towards the end of the 16th century, a number of religious orders arrived in Lecce, amongst them Jesuits and Franciscans; their arrival inspired wealthy patrons who poured money into the building of elaborate palaces and churches, for this was the beginning of the Baroque period. The result is a perfect little gem of a Baroque city, the crowning glory being the Church of the Holy Cross, completed in 1695. Next to the church is the Governor’s Palace, a former convent. The cathedral is one of the most important in Italy, with an enormous five-story campanile that towers 70 meters above the square.

Matera The city of Matera forms a bowl cut into the rocks, with unique cave dwellings known as 'sassi'. In the 1950s, this was one of the poorest areas of Italy and the people living in the sassi had an unbelievably squalid existence. Their plight was high-lighted by Carlo Levi in his book 'Christ Stopped in Eboli’, and the government was finally shamed into rehousing them into modern housing on the outskirts of the city. In 1993 Matera was made a World Heritage Site and since then, people have started to restore the 'sassi', turning them into hotels, guest houses and craft workshops. Sextantio Le Grotte della Civita Via Civita 28 (Sasso Barisano) - 75100 Matera (MT) tel. +39 0835 332744 - fax. +39 0835 337331 [email protected] www.sextantio.it Accommodation details: Wednesday, March 30, 2016 to Thursday, March 31

Sextantio Le Grotte Della Civita Matera lies in the south of Italy and is world famous because of its Sassi quarters, a stunning and well preserved example of a village where hundreds of caves were turned into dwellings, churches and palaces. The Sassi is a unique hamlet: the earliest inhabitants date back to the stone and bronze age, in the middle ages it boasted several monastic communities and later became a vibrant farming centre due to the rich harvests from the surrounding hills and plains. The Sextantio Le Grotte della Civita project is situated in the oldest part of the Sassi quarters, the Civita, facing the spectacular Murgia Park and its rock-hewn churches. It comprises 18 rooms (some of them exceeding 160 square meters) and an ancient church, the "Cripta della Civita", now used as a common area, all renovated to retain their original features.

Naples

09:00 AM - Naples, Hotel Romeo

Site inspection of the hotel in the morning Guided tour of NAPLES, including the exciting NAPLES UNDERGROUND (Napoli Sotterranea) + ARCHEOLOGICAL MUSEUM Service ends: Naples, Hotel Romeo

Naples Highlights There was a settlement here as early as the 9th century BC, but it was first given the name Neapolis by the Greeks in 750 BC. Since then, it has seen annexations by the Normans, Angevins, Spanish and French, each adding to its cultural heritage; it was the final stop on the Grand Tour of the British aristocracy in the eighteenth century. Our tour begins in the Spaccanapoli, a main street in the old center, followed by a visit to the church of Gesu Nuovo, the most important Jesuit church in Naples, with a lava-stone façade. Opposite is the church of Santa Chiara, a simple Gothic building, in marked contrast to the much more flamboyant Gesu. A short walk from here is the Capella Sansevero, the tomb chapel of the di Sangro family. The centerpiece is a carving of a dead Christ, lying flat and covered in an incredible translucent veil carved out of a single piece of marble. After a stop for lunch, stroll down the Via Gregorio Armeno, a street famous for its shops selling Christmas Nativity cribs. Finally, we make our way to San Lorenzo Maggiore, a Gothic church, beneath which lies the excavation of the original Greek city of Neapolis which later became the Roman Forum. You will walk down a Roman street and pass a bakery and a laundry before arriving at what was likely to have been the town's treasury, bearing a remarkable resemblance to a modern bank, with its double security doors.

Naples

09:00 AM - Naples, Hotel Romeo Departure to RAVELLO On the way, stop to visit POMPEII and have lunch in a local trattoria close to the ruins. Service ends: Ravello, Palazzo Avino

Pompeii To visit Pompeii is probably as close as we can get to travelling in a time machine to ancient Rome. In August, 79 AD, Vesuvius had been rumbling for some days and it is estimated that a large part of the population of 20,000 had been evacuated; the remains of those who were left feel suspended in time as if plaster casts had been made of the bodies to preserve them. Excavation started in the 18th century and continues to this day. The first impression, on entering the Forum, is just how massive Roman structures were compared to medieval or later sites. You will get to walk Roman streets, look into bars, stroll into Patrician villas complete with frescoes and mosaics. There is even a mosaic doormat, saying 'beware of the dog'. There is also graffiti (an Italian word) written on some of the walls, reflecting a forthcoming election. When you see the baths, the central heating systems and the gentle fountains in the courtyards of the villas, you might feel it wouldn't be such a hardship to live there.

The whole coastline is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, achieved because of its undisputed beauty and the uniqueness of its natural landscape. Capri is perhaps the jewel in the crown and no visit would be complete without taking in this stunning island, once the favorite home of the emperor Tiberius.
