Newsletters make it possible to inform customers and DB employees in acompact format and to reach a large number of interested readers. They aredistributed as printed copies or PDFs. You can find more information on thedigital variant of newsletters sent as emails here: HTML Newsletters.

Templates with five different title page variations according to business divisionare available. InDesign templates are used for professional printed productions.Word templates are also available for internal newsletters.

At a glance:Title pages, headers

The following characteristic designcharacteristics are used in the designof headers of newsletter title pages:

The brand logo (1) serves to clearlyidentify the sender and is placed withindefined margins at the upper right ofthe color pane or in the logo box (2).

Besides the brand logo, the color panein the business division color (3)identifies the sender. The panes bleedto the right and left.

Optional title images (4) can be usedin the header area.

The newsletter title (5) with thecharacteristic bold-fine contrast standson the color pane and can besupplemented if needed by a sub-header, e.g. ‘information for employees’or ‘customer information’.

When using large-format images it ispossible to place the title on atransparent pane in the divisioncolor (6) above the image.

The DB corner element (7) is presenton every title page as a visual constant.

When a marking (8) is necessary, it isplaced on the right-hand side beneaththe header in the white pane.

Content pages

The clearspace (1) at the upper formatedge has a defined, unchangeableheight and cites the brand-typical logocleaspace. A color stripe in thedivision color (2) and the baseline inthe footer area (3) clasp the content.

The majority of the text modules,e.g. headlines (4) and body copy (5)are in DB News. For eye-catchingintroductory copy (6) and other textmodules, use DB Sans.

Whenever possible, the body copybegins after the main headline and witheach new article with a drop initial (7).

Images (8) and color panes can bleed.Color panes (9) can be used toemphasize text information.

Templates as a design foundation

Template files are available for newsletter design.Their use is absolutely recommended.The templates already include sample headers with brand logos andappropriate sender identification. All copy elements are likewise includedas samples and can be adapted individually according to your needs.

Designing the header and title page

The height of the color and image panes (1) and font sizeof the newsletter title are variable and can be changed whenneeded.

Placement of the logos is predefined. Appropriate samplesare already included in the templates.

The newsletter title (2) is set in bold-fine contrast inDB Head Black and DB Head Light. The samples includetwo font sizes for short and long newsletter titles, as arule the font sizes are flexible.The font for an optional subheadline and subsequentnewsletter details (3) (date, edition number) isDB Sans Bold.

Designing content pages, text modules

The text live areas of the title andcontent pages are identical.Newsletters use the fonts of ourcorporate font DB Type.

Headlines (1) and subheadlines areset in DB Sans Compressed Bold

The body copy font (2) is DB News.Individual words or short phrases can,like the introductory copy, beemphasized in DB Sans Bold.

Column and section titles (3) arein DB Head Black.

After headlines and with each newarticle, the body copy begins wheneverpossible with a drop initial (4) overtwo lines in DB Sans Condensed Bold.

Captions (5) use DB Sans Condensed.

To emphasize information individually,the copy can be placed on a colorpane (6). Additionally, text boxes (7)with header bars for headlines areavailable.

The footer line (8) includes thenewsletter title in DB Head Black andDB Head Light. The edition numberand page number (9) are set inDB Sans Condensed Regular.

The end of an article in the body copyis marked by a 2x2 mm squaretermination character (10).

Use of other header and copy font styles, as e.g. in brochure content pages,is possible. With any changes or adjustments, make sure the overall look isuniform and makes sense.

If needed, pictographs designed specially for publications can be used.Lists with bullet points use the typical red squares.
