The following details should be clarified before starting the realization phase:
▪ For which OEM/supplier and customer plant are the labels needed?
▪ Does customer specific label specifications exist?
▪ Which label characteristics/formats are needed (Case Carton, Master Container, Mixed Load, Quick Receive, … )?
▪ How are customer specific additional fields (e.g. License Plate, Engineering Change Level, Line Feed, Drop Zone, Material Handling Code, Home Position, Shift, etc.) transferred e.g. via EDI in the forecast delivery schedule and mapped in the SAP ERP system?
▪ How does the local printer landscape look like (Laser-/Thermal transfer printer)?
▪ What printer vendors or printer types are used? According to experience there is an increased use of Intermec-/Zebra printer in the American market.
▪ In which language should the label realization take place?
▪ In which language is the documentation needed?
▪ Which SAP Release do you currently use?
▪ Which print form technology should be used for the label realization?

Overview of SAP print forms technologies: SAP Smart
Forms
The SAP Smart Forms technology is currently the basis for almost all Automotive Consulting Solutions print forms.
The technology is available since release 4.6C and provides e.g. the possibility to print out print forms on Zebra thermo transfer printers.
Customer specific changes of existing print forms can normally be done quite easy.

Overview of SAP print forms technologies: SAP
Interactive Forms by Adobe
The latest print forms development tool is the SAP Interactive Forms by Adobe technology.
New ACS print forms will be developed more and more with this new technology.
Official SAP Statement regarding the print forms strategy:
“The SAP forms strategy is based on SAP Interactive Forms by Adobe. This applies to both print and
interactive forms. In this context, most Business Suite solutions have already been converted to the SAP
Interactive Forms by Adobe technology (more than 2300 forms), and new standard SAP forms will be
created using SAP Interactive Forms by Adobe instead of Smart Forms or SAPscript. SAPscript and
Smart Forms shall continue to be supported inline with SAP's maintenance strategy, thereby ensuring the
ability to protect existing customer investment."
