PRINCIPALS REPORT
SHOWCASING OUR SCHOOL
We have had the privilege of
showcasing our school to many
visitors from other schools this
term. We have had Senior
Education Leaders, Principals,
Assistant Principals and senior
teachers from within our
education system and from the
Catholic system, visit us to hear
about what makes our school
stand out. We take
immense pride when showing
people around our school and
enjoy highlighting what makes
us stand out. Examples of what
we highlight are our values
underpinning all that we do, our
new 21C space and the rigorous
curriculum with an ethical
stance, a strong professional
learning culture with staff who
continually upskill themselves
and many more to mention.
STRUCTURE
Our school structure has been
designed to promote and
connect all staff, students and
parents in order to facilitate
relationships and teaching and
learning. Parents wishing to
speak to their child’s teacher,
please be mindful that teachers
are not available for long con-
versations in the mornings as
they are preparing for their
class and three afternoons a
week, teachers attend planning
meetings. Contacting the office
to organise a meeting time with
the teacher, is preferred.
Every grade level has a team
leader and would be the next
port of call if needed. Our Lead
teachers and Principal class staff
are attached to grade levels to
support the staff in their levels
and to form relationships with
parents. Schools are very busy
places with all staff having
allocated duties during the day
and we hope that parents have
trust in us to know that we
want the best for their children!
For your information the staff
below are attached to the
following teaching teams:
Julie Lowerson : Foundation
Matt Markmann : Grades 1 & 2
Hung Mok: Grades 3 & 4
Alex Mowat: Grade 5
Pat Lynch: Grade 6
Steph Taylor : Specialist Team
TRANSITION
Transition to school is an ex-
tremely important process and
one which we greatly value.
Lauren Bird, Leader of our Foun-
dation grade level, has been
very active in promoting our
school to the families at our
local Kindergartens. We are
implementing an exciting
Transition initiative this year
and we look forward to keeping
you informed about the
Transition sessions which take
across the remainder of this
year. We will be involving the Gr
5 students in various ways as
part of this initiative to expand
their leadership capacities.
SCHOOL VALUES
Our school values, Respect,
Honesty, Pride and Success, are
values we encourage within our
community. We work with
students to understand these
values and to live by them.
Students are learning to model
these values in all that they do,
as are staff. We encourage
parents to be good models of
these values and to talk to their
children about them, providing
examples. Treating everyone
with respect is of utmost
importance and anyone on our
school grounds is required to be
respectful of students, staff and
each other. We thank those
who model our values and
encourage everyone to do so
too.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN is an annual assess-
ment for all students in Years 3,
5, 7 and 9.
Term 2 Issue 3 31/5/2019
It tests the types of skills that are
essential for every child to
progress through school and life.
The tests cover skills in reading,
writing, spelling, grammar and
punctuation, and numeracy. The
assessments are undertaken every
year in the second full week in
May. As a school, we use the data
collected from these tests to assist
teachers in measuring growth and
capabilities of students. This data
is only one piece of data which
teachers use to inform them when
planning for teaching and
learning.
NAPLAN tests were conducted
across the country over the past
two weeks. We were one of the
schools who were involved in
conducting the NAPLAN tests
online and I wish to thank all
those involved for the expertise in
this area ensuring our students
were able to access the tests with
minimal disruption.
FOUNDATION HEALTHY
BREAKFAST
The Foundation students were all
very excited when they began
their day in their classrooms on
Wednesday. They were dressed in
their pyjamas and dressing gowns
and were ready to eat a healthy
breakfast. It was a wonderful
experience for them all. Please see
more information further on in
this newsletter.
CROSS COUNTRY
Congratulations to those children
who competed in the inter school
cross country on Wednesday.
They represented RHPS proudly
and many thanks to Michael Lane
for ensuring our students are
engaging in such opportunities.
EXTREME WEATHER TIMETABLE
Our gr 6 students are responsible
for determining if we operate on
an Extreme Weather timetable for
the day or not, based on their
checking of relevant weather
sites. Giving the students this
responsibility is another way they
are encouraged to be involved and
make responsible decisions. Thank
you to Matt McCarthy for
promoting this responsibility
within our students.
STATEWIDE PRINCIPAL CLASS
CONFERENCE
Alex, Pat and I will be attending
the Statewide Principal Class
conference on Monday and
Tuesday of next week. This
conference is aimed at providing
further information and
professional learning focused on
the DET FISO model, which
informs our work. During this time
away from school, Matt
Markmann, Lead Teacher, will be
assuming the role of Acting
Principal.
HAPPY EID
Happy Eid , Eid Mubarak, to those
families who have been
participating in Ramadan over the
past month. Eid al-Fitr is an
important religious holiday
celebrated by Muslims
worldwide that marks the end of
Ramadan, the Islamic holy month
of fasting. I am sure members of
our community who have been
participating will certainly enjoy
the family celebrations and
gatherings that will now take
place.
We wish you and all your
family a happy and joyful
holiday. EID MUBAREK
Mübarek Bayramı'nızı tüm sevdiklerinizle beraber mutlu-luk ve neşe içerisinde geçirmenizi diliyoruz. نتمنى لكم و لجميع أفراد عائلتكم عيدا مليئا بالفرحة و السعاده. عيد مبارك
Yours in learning

School Drop Off and Pick Up
Ensuring that we are promoting a healthy and safe school during school drop off and pick up.
It has been brought to our attention that some drivers in our school
community have been completing 3 point turns and double parking
on McPherson Boulevard near our school crossing.
This driving poses a risk to the safety of the children and the
community, could you please adhere to the road rules and
model safe driving practices around our school.
The council has been informed and they have advised the school that
they will be conducting spot checks and issuing fines during the year.
Your understanding and compliance is greatly appreciated.

Our Kids Café continues to be a success at RHPS! We have had
many new students come join us for a lovely start to the day.

Library News
It’s exciting to see all grade Prep, 1s and 2s enjoying
library time once more and in our new 21st Century
learning space. They have been bringing a book home to
share on a weekly basis.
There are still some children unable to take a book home as
they are without a suitable library bag to protect their
library book.
Library bags can be bought from Kmart or Big W, or perhaps
homemade.
Library days are as follows:
Mondays: Grade 2
Tuesdays: Grade Prep
Wednesdays: Grade 1
Book borrowing will commence for
grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 next term!
Students are welcome to change their library book on a more regular basis after school. The 21st century learning space will be open until 3.40 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays only.

No Pens Day
On Thursday the 30th of May, the students at Roxburgh Homestead Primary School completed all their learning through speaking and listening tasks for No Pens Day. The theme for No Pens Day was “Adjectives.” On the day the students brought in a special object to describe.
We loved having our school community join us in the classroom during Open Morning. It was a great opportunity for the students to show case their learning.
Students participated in a range of engaging oral language lessons on the day including creating persuasive commercials and using catapults for measurement. It was rewarding going to classes and hearing our students speaking so well and interacting with one an-other. It was also impressive to see how teachers integrated technology into their les-sons.
Thank you too all the staff, parents and students for their wonderful efforts in making No Pens Day such a success. Everyone went above and beyond to create a fun, innovative and engaging oral language space for all our students’ voices to be heard.

Premiers Reading Challenge Update
Roxburgh Homestead Primary School currently has 136 students registered for the challenge. We would love to see more students involved across the school and the good news is that it’s not too late to register!
Spare forms are in the office along with a helpful guide on reading with your children. You can access this guide via our school website, on the external links section called Literacy and Numeracy Tips.
There are many benefits regarding students involvement in the Premier’s Reading Challenge.
These include:
Giving students a focus for their reading
Encouraging students to read more books and enjoy reading more
Encouraging students to participate by being 'challenged'
Offering incentives for reluctant readers
Building self-esteem and pride, school unity, and a sense of achievement
Increasing the involvement of parents in their child's reading
Contributing to increased literacy levels.
If you have any further questions regarding the Premier’s Reading Challenge, please see your child’s classroom teacher.

Compass Pay
Compass Pay
I am excited to advise that Compass Pay is now activated on Compass. Compass Pay is our school's preferred payment method and also means that you can now provide an electronic consent for your child's excursion/incursion and camp.
As we continue to evolve our use of Compass, printed notes will no longer be provided to students. Parents will be expected to provide digital consent via Compass.
Attached is a guide; ‘How to pay using Compass Pay using a Mobile’ for parents. Please note that if you have CSEF, you are only required to provide an electronic consent. Please do NOT pay if you have CSEF.
We strongly encourage the use of Compass as this gives our teachers immediate access to your consent and lets us know your child is attending immediately after processing your payment and consent.
Please contact the office if you require your login User ID and password for Compass and for any Compass related queries. We strongly encourage parents to provide their email address on Compass, so that you can receive regular news, reminders and information. The below user guide is also available on the Compass newsfeed.
