Principals’ message

Welcome back! I trust that everyone had an opportunity to rest, relax and

make good use of family time. Though the weather may have hindered some

opportunities during the holidays, it has been much appreciated in those rural

remote areas for our farmers.

Shortly I will have completed my first year as principal of Jewells Primary

School and as I reflect upon things so far, the lessons learnt and imparted can

be quite simply articulated in the following few lines:

“Respect is earned…

Honesty is appreciated…

Trust is gained … and as a result,

Loyalty is returned”.

Jewells Primary School is an exceptional school. Significant planning is

underway to ensure that in 2019 we take things to a new and improved level.

School Parliament – Student Leadership

Our current student leadership team have done a remarkable job in

advocating for their peers and working alongside teachers and executive to

ensure positive and proactive initiatives are up and running within the

school. I would like to ensure that they are acknowledged and thanked for

the work thus far and plant the seed now for those considering leadership in

2019.

Term four is always a very busy period at school. Shortly, students will embark

upon nominations for 2019 School Parliament. As modelled, those students

who are interested in taking on a leadership role within the school must be

responsible, reliable, demonstrate initiative and lead by example.

The best leaders earn respect of their peers and the school staff by their

attitudes towards others and towards their education.

Year 5 students will soon be given the opportunity to nominate as a

candidate for leadership in 2019. Raise and nurture that pursuit. Please be

aware that the best candidates will be elected into the role irrespective of

gender.

Colour Run

This Friday 19 October 2018, Jewells

Primary P&C is holding a Colour

Run at school. Every student is en-

couraged to participate.

All funds raised are dedicated to

implementing a number of highly

engaging and developmental

asphalt artworks.

All funds raised are dedicated to implementing a number of highly engaging and

developmental asphalt artworks. Children are asked to bring a spare change of

clothes to school, most importantly a plain white shirt. (The colour powder is made of

high quality corn starch with permitted food colours. It is non-toxic, biodegradable,

skin sage and environmentally friendly).

Opportunity Class offers 2019

I am extremely excited to see the list of names of students who have been

successful in placing in the Opportunity Class for 2019. I know that offers are currently being made with some stu-

dents patiently waiting on the reserve list. The 2019 scholastic year is going to be an exciting and vibrant time for

all of our students, with some new initiatives and changes being made. Give careful consideration when decid-

ing on an offer being made. This is a great opportunity.

Scripture Planning for 2019

The school is working very closely with our SRE teachers to ensure effective planning for scripture lessons in 2019.

Heading home this term will be a note requesting that parents give careful consideration to whether their child is

involved in cross denominational scripture lessons (Catholic, Anglican etc). The scripture sessions are a fun,

interactive way for students to consolidate those values that we nurture both at home and at school. When your

child brings their scripture note home soon, please take the time to complete it and return it to the office.

Kinder Orientation

This term our new Kindergarten students for 2019 will participate in orientation sessions:

Thursday 25 October 9.45am-11.30am

Wednesday 7 November 12.15pm-2.15pm

Tuesday 20 November 12.15pm-2.15pm

Wednesday 5 December 9.45am-11.30am

At the beginning of each session parents will need to bring their child to the COLA area, where they will meet with

their buddy group. The children will then participate in a number of fun and interactive activities. This is an invalua-

ble time for them to become familiar with the school, some preliminary expectations and rules.

Term 4 Expectations

Term 4 is an exciting time for many students, especially as they prepare for landmark transitions such as moving on

to High School. Although this is a very busy and vibrant term with many scheduled extra-curricular activities

planned, I must advise all parents that any unacceptable behaviour that breaches the school wellbeing and

discipline policy may result in withdrawal from such activities, in addition to possible suspension from school.

I would expect that all students, even when reminded, demonstrate respect, care and safety, upholding our

motto and exhibiting our school values.
