WHAT IS PSLE?
PSLE – A Placement Examination• Need to reflect the relative achievement level of
students among their peers.
• Places students into different courses according to their academic ability.
• Enables posting to secondary schools by merit and as far as possible into a school of their choice.
![Page 16: PRINCIPAL’S TALK MINGLING SESSION · Store into your smartphone. If you have any questions, please email snac.support@apptitude.sg . •For more information on SNAC, you may also](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022041418/5e1cc96c99c648492a573c7e/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
TRUE OR FALSE?
T-score is out of 300.
English and Mother Tongue are more important than
Mathematics and Science.
I can calculate the T-score of my child
by adding all the marks of 4 subjects,
divide by 4 and multiply by 3.
![Page 17: PRINCIPAL’S TALK MINGLING SESSION · Store into your smartphone. If you have any questions, please email snac.support@apptitude.sg . •For more information on SNAC, you may also](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022041418/5e1cc96c99c648492a573c7e/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
WHAT IS PSLE AGGREGATE SCORE?
It is a sum of the T-score of the 4 subjects. It allows students to be ranked fairly.
![Page 18: PRINCIPAL’S TALK MINGLING SESSION · Store into your smartphone. If you have any questions, please email snac.support@apptitude.sg . •For more information on SNAC, you may also](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022041418/5e1cc96c99c648492a573c7e/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
RAW SCORES ARE NOT USED BECAUSE…
• Raw scores obtained in the exam only show how good the student is for that particular subject and exam, not how good the student is as compared to other students.
• Different subjects have different levels of difficulty
• Different subjects have different spread of marks from the average mark (i.e. different standard deviation)
![Page 19: PRINCIPAL’S TALK MINGLING SESSION · Store into your smartphone. If you have any questions, please email snac.support@apptitude.sg . •For more information on SNAC, you may also](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022041418/5e1cc96c99c648492a573c7e/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)

T-score converts average marks of each subject to a common score of 50 points. It also converts other marks taking into consideration the extent to which they differ from the average.

WHAT IS T-SCORE?
• It is not the mark a student obtains in the examination.
• It gives the relative position of a student’s performance as compared to the performance of all the other students in that subject.
• For example, a student who scored 70% in Science would not have performed as well if most other students scored higher than 70%.
![Page 25: PRINCIPAL’S TALK MINGLING SESSION · Store into your smartphone. If you have any questions, please email snac.support@apptitude.sg . •For more information on SNAC, you may also](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022041418/5e1cc96c99c648492a573c7e/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
HOW IS THE AGGREGATE SCORE CALCULATED?
• By adding the T-scores of the 4 subjects.
Every subject is equally important!
![Page 26: PRINCIPAL’S TALK MINGLING SESSION · Store into your smartphone. If you have any questions, please email snac.support@apptitude.sg . •For more information on SNAC, you may also](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022041418/5e1cc96c99c648492a573c7e/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
• Use of marks obtained in the examination can lead to a wrong ranking of students.
• To ensure that subjects are accorded equalweighting.
• Helps to place students in the Secondary Schools and the Secondary School Course more fairly.
T-SCORE IS USED INSTEAD OF THE RAW MARKS OBTAINED BECAUSE…

• Student’s mark (X) in exam = 50.0
• Average mark (Y) scored by all students = 68.0
• Spread of marks (Z) around the average mark (Y) = 14.0
Example:
T = 50 + 10 (50 - 68.0)
14.0= 37.14

4. MAKING CHOICES IN THE DSA-SEC PORTAL
Through the portal, you can easily identify schools that offer programmes for your child’s talent area.
You can indicate up to three choices. For each choice, you will need to choose a secondary school and a talent area from that school.
The order of the choices does not matter during application.
Of the three choices, up to two choices may be used to apply to the same school, for two different talent areas of that school. This is to cater to your child’s multiple interests, and allow your child to choose different schools which can develop his/her strengths and interests.
You and your child are encouraged to consider your choices carefully, and manage the time and effort participating in multiple trials and interviews.
39
FEATURES OF THE DSA-SEC PORTAL
Note. Students can apply separately to School of the Arts and Singapore Sports School, on top of the DSA-Sec choices made through the DSA-Sec Portal.

Wait List (WL) Your child will be given a place in the school if other students with Confirmed Offers do not take up those offers, and if his/her PSLE results
qualify him/her for a course the school offers. Allocation will be based on students’ rank on the school’s Wait List.
Unsuccessful Your child has not been given a place in the school. If your child still wishes to enter the schools he/she applied for, he/she can apply through
the S1 Posting process using his/her PSLE results.

VICTOR IS OFFERED A WAIT LIST BY COURAGE SECONDARY. VICTOR SELECTED COURAGESECONDARY AS HIS 1ST CHOICE.
WHO WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR A PLACE IN COURAGE SECONDARY FIRST?

SELECTION OUTCOME
