If so, parents should bring the medication to the office in its original pharmacy packaging detailing the name of the child, the name of the medication and the time and dosage required. Parents must also complete a written request on the appropriate form which is provided by the Department of Education. Forms are available at the school office. Unfortunately the school is unable to administer unprescribed medicines, such as Panadol etc. unless it has written specific instructions from a doctor. (This does not apply to excursions). Please note: Medication will not be given unless the parent contacts the office in person and fills out the appropriate forms and delivers the medication in suitable packaging. If your child is unwell the school will contact you, if necessary. Please do not contact another child’s parents yourself if you notice a child is unwell or in sick bay. The school is responsible for the wellbeing of children while they are at school and all staff have been trained in Emergency Care and First Aid. Good luck to Conor, Ben, Lily, Cameron, Zavier, Mitch, Zack, Tom and Riley who are all participating in the Regional PSSA Athletics Carnival this Friday in Albury. It sounds as though the Year 3 and 4 children had a great time at the Tom Hawkins Fun Day. Thank you to the parents who assisted the teachers with the teams. The Kinder 2013 Parent Information Evening last week was well attended. We are expecting around 20 Kinders in 2013. If you missed the evening or know of someone who did, please get them to contact the school so we can forward any information. John Francis, Principal

Principal’s Report Dear Parents, From time to time your child may need to take prescribed medications

during the day. If so, parents should bring the medication to the office in its original pharmacy packaging detailing the name of the child, the name

of the medication and the time and dosage required. Parents must also

complete a written request on the appropriate form which is provided by the Department of Education. Forms are available at the school office.

the office in person and fills out the appropriate forms and delivers

the medication in suitable packaging.

This week in the Kitchen Garden IN THE GARDEN This week we begin a new rotation of group activities in the garden. The students will be investigating where various fruits and vegetables have originated around the world. They will be applying mapping skills and learning about how food influences different cultures.

KITCHEN MENU This week’s menu uses lots of ingredients that were grown and preserved earlier in the year by the children. Recipes include fig, ham and fetta toasts, curried chick peas and vegies, a barley risotto and ruby red orange and radicchio salad. For a sweet treat, the children will make a quince and apple crumble.

TURKISH SYRUP

The kitchen has some excess bottles of the gorgeous Turkish syrup used by the children last week for sale for $5 per bottle. The syrup has been made from quince juice, pomegranate molasses and rose geranium leaves. It would be delicious over ice cream, pancakes, fruit salads or other desserts.

THANK YOU Thank you to Kensal Estate for giving us a $20 donation. The winery, situated where the old Heritage Farm Winery was in Yarroweyah, plans to use some of our quince jelly, green tomato jam and pickled cumquats as part of their cheese platters. Nikki Bird SAKG Program Coordinator

Tom Hawkins Football Fun Day Last Friday, students in Years 3 and 4 travelled to Finley to participate in the Tom Hawkins Football

Fun Day. Barooga entered three teams and each team played three games of football in very cold,

windy (and occasionally wet) conditions. The aim of the day was fun and participation, so no scores

were kept. All players should be incredibly proud of their efforts on the day – in true Barooga style we

played with courage, determination and excellent sportsmanship.

A huge thank you to Marcia Nolan, Jason Brooks, Sophie and Shane O’Shea, and Lincoln and Allison

Humphries for their assistance in managing teams and providing ‘cheer squad’ support on the day.

Amy Paroissien.
