A result that was last achieved by GPS in 2010. Congratulations to all of the students in the team for their wonderful endeavours to achieve first place. They all worked extremely hard in their training leading up to the day, with all individual, as well as the team result reflecting this hard work. Everyone can all be very proud of themselves for this outstanding effort. The students were extremely well -prepared and motivated to succeed as a result of the excellent work that Miss Knell carried out with the team prior to the event. She conducted multiple lunchtime training sessions at Greythorn Park and motivated the students to run harder and faster each week. These sessions gave the students a lot of confidence in their abilities which they carried into their respective races. We thank Miss Knell for her outstanding work with the team and for her ongoing work with the students competing at the Divisional final. Thirteen students have qualified for the Divisional finals being held on the 7 th June at Ruffey Lake Park, Doncaster. We wish them well for this event and know that they are going to achieve great results. GrandparentsDay The school was overflowing with visitors on Monday for Grandparentsand Special FriendsDay. After signing in was completed in the Hall, the visitors were escorted to respective classrooms by students from 604 (Miss Karvela). They all enjoyed visiting classrooms to see grandchildren and special friends as well as having time to tour the schools buildings and grounds. Tea, coffee and scones and jam and cream were then on offer for afternoon tea back in the Hall. During this time, the Senior choir entertained the visitors as they performed In Flanders Fieldsand Jentend le Moulin’. This was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone there. Thank you to Mrs Odou for coordinating the choir and conducting them during this performance. Sincere thanks also goes to the PFA for organising and coordinating afternoon tea. Everyone enjoyed a cup of tea or coffee and in particular, the scones, jam, and cream. Boroondara Eisteddfod Congratulations to the Senior choir and Mrs Odou for their wonderful performance at yesterdays Boroondara Eisteddfod held at the Hawthorn Arts Centre. They sang two songs (In Flanders Fields & J entends le Moulin) and gave a flawless performance. Watching them perform made me very proud as they represented Greythorn Primary School in an outstanding manner. They placed third in the competition which is a wonderful effort as they were competing against a wide range of schools with choirs of varying sizes and experience. Thank you to Mrs Odou for the countless hours she puts into rehearsing with the students and preparing them so thoroughly for these events. Thank you also to Miss Gibson and Miss Stewart -North who also attended to assist on the day. Many parents were also in the audience and I thank them for attending to support the students.

Working Bee We have a working bee scheduled for this Saturday commencing at 8am. One of the major tasks for the day is to add topsoil and plant out the garden bed adjacent to the lower building that had the retaining wall added recently. General maintenance tasks will also be completed throughout the school. Any assistance on Saturday would be very much appreciated, even if you are only able to attend for a short amount of time. An online sign-up portal, see the link below, was posted via Compass this week for those able to attend.

Storytime Sessions Two storytime sessions are being held in the Library this Wednesday at 9:30am and 2:30pm for current 4 year old kinder children. These sessions are an opportunity for children who will be attending GPS next year to spend time in the school and enjoy story reading and socialise with other four year olds as well as some current prep students. Thank you to the prep team for organising and coordinating these sessions. School Review The Department of Education & Training carries out a review of every Government school when the life of each school’s four year Strategic Plan is ending. Greythorn Primary School is currently in this review process. An independent reviewer is appointed to complete the process by working with all stakeholders to evaluate the work of GPS over the past 4 years. Peter Fotheringham is the appointed reviewer for our school. The process has included the completion of the Pre-Review Self-Evaluation which is a multi-faceted document that analyses data sets including; student performance, Attitudes to School Survey, Parent Opinion Survey and the Staff Opinion Survey. The evaluation also includes analysing how well the goals and targets were met as outlined in the four year Strategic Plan. The reviewer spends a total of three days in the school to meet with staff, students and parents including the panel last Wednesday that included a Department representative, two external principals, three teachers, Rob Camm (School Council president) as well as Ken and myself. A report will be prepared by the reviewer that will be presented to the school community on completion.

Listing of Goods and Services Providers

Student Banking

As referred to elsewhere in this Newsletter, the PFA has started to collate a voluntary listing of businesses operating within our school community that may be of interest to all parents. The listing is growing and is available for your viewing on both the school website and on the school Facebook page. The listing will also appear on Compass once a term and is able to be updated or added to at any time.

Mothers Day Celebrations

Without the team of dads that volunteered 2 hours of their morning, our inaugural Mother’s Day breakfast could not have been the success it was. Nothing beats eating a BBQ bacon and egg roll on a cold morning under a rainbow! Thank you to Steve Ingram, Andrew Russo, Dave Axup, Ben Gurzansky and Adam Reid-Pettet. A special mention goes out to the barista aka barrister Mr Searle!
