(Winter Solstice) and was attended by Shreshti Dubey (VII), Aditya Awana (VII),

Gandharv Joshi (VII), Gauri Gautam (VII) and Vibhor Dabral (VII). Project Paridhi is a

one takes measurements of the shadows made by the Sun to measure the

circumference of Earth as done 2300 years back by astronomer Eratosthenes.

This project showcased that Science can be learnt by doing. This activity can be

performed any day but SOLSTICE AND EQUINOX are preferred as the position of the sun

OVERNIGHT SKY OBSERVATION

An overnight observation for the students of Astronomy Club was organised on 31, Jan

2017 at a premium site-Astroport, Sariska. Astroport is India’s first Astronomy theme

based resort which has been developed to provide a great sky viewing and research

experience to the budding astronomers working with SPACE, in a serene and lush

environment of Sariska Tiger Reserve. Students made spectacular telescopic

observations of star clusters, nebulae, constellations, the Moon, the Saturn with its

beautiful rings and the Jupiter with its four moons aligned in one line. They learnt to use

the ‘planisphere’ to locate stars and other objects as well as find directions with the help

of various constellations. A hands- on telescopic session enabled them to use their own

telescopes to make observations. This session proved to be an exciting and a great

learning experience for the students.
