To begin the term staff from Collarenebri Central School joined other small schools in a fantastic day of professional

learning in Wee Waa, Connecting to Country. Thanks to Roslyn McGregor and Anne Dennis for accommodating and

encouraging us to join this valuable experience at short notice. Thanks also to the local AECG who made us feel

welcomed and provided us with an amazing lunch, that I may have enjoyed a second and potentially even a third

helping of, depending on if anyone was looking.

We were all humbled to hear the stories, participate in activities and improve our knowledge and understanding of

Aboriginal culture and history. The NAIDOC theme of Voice, Treaty, Truth was embedded across the day, with staff

feeling a strong sense of connection to the theme.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Principal

The term has been fast paced and jam packed with amazing learning, academic and sporting opportunities. We

started the term with our athletics carnival. It was great to see so many parents and relatives supporting the

students on this day and a big thankyou to the community who helped run events and support staff in the smooth

running of this day.

We have had careers chats from Beacon live, Indigenous games in Goodooga, Ricky Walford and Jenny Wright

carnival in Walgett for the primary students, the Neville Thorne Shield for secondary and a wonderful assembly for

Education Week already this term and we have only just returned.

Looking forward we are participating in the Ronnie Gibbs NRL carnival in Bourke and present a Book Week Parade in

week 5. We are again proud to host the Barwon Athletics Carnival in week 6 with successful students at this carnival

progressing to compete in Tamworth in week 8.

Kindergarten Transition Students

What a great day for our students who travelled to Walgett to compete in the Ricky Walford and Jenny Wright Tournaments. Our boys combined and played four games in the Ricky Walford tournament. As usual they were full of enthusiasm and competitive spirit. With each game they improved their playing skills, team work and sportsmanship and gave their opponents a great game. Congratulations boys you did us proud!!

Our girls combined to play in the Jenny Wright tournament and competed in eight games. The girls again were full of enthusiasm, sportsmanship and team work. The boys and I were able to watch their last game which was a cracker! All our girls displayed great team work and it was a joy to watch. Elissa Walford was awarded the 'Most valuable player' for her improved performance during the tournament. Congratulations girls, what a great team performance!

I would also like to thank Carl Mason, Sarah O'Conner and Ken Norman for their valued support throughout the day :)

On Thursday the 1st of August Collarenebri Central school had the privilege of participating in the Goodooga

Indigenous Games with more than 15 other schools, ranging from Queensland all the way down to

Canberra. Teams were comprised of students from each school and played up to 15 traditional Indigenous

games. This gave the students a chance to meet new friends and experience great games. The atmosphere

was incredible and the students had an amazing day, even winning trophies for sportsmanship and overall

performance. What a great day!

PRIMARY REPORT

MRS ALLYSON HYNCH

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

Over the last couple of weeks all students have been

busy with activities for Education Week. Our classroom

doors were displayed beautifully and the judging was

very tough. It was great to see parents in the classrooms

reading with their children during Literacy lessons. The

assembly also outlined what teachers and students

were working on in classes throughout the term. Many

students received ribbons from our school athletics

carnival. Well done to Mr Micallef for his organisation

of the day.

The Ricky Walford and Jenny Wright Carnival in Walgett

was another great day for all students competing in

netball and rugby league. Both Mr Lissaman and Ms

Rudd had fantastic stories of praise for our teams

efforts. The girls won 6 out of 8 of their games. Well

done girls! While the boys competed in the 5/6 team

were the lads from other schools where very tall and

competitive. Well done to our boys for displaying great

sportsmanship. To Elissa Walford congratulations, Elissa

won a trophy for the Most Valuable Player for the team.

Moorambilla Voices has started this Term. This year

126 schools participated. There were 3,500 students

audition and we have 4 students chosen to attend camp

in Baradine over 10 days. Congratulations to Jaylan

Walford, Yindi Jakitsch, Kate Zaradic and Louise Smith

who will be working alongside some of the world’s

finest composers, musicians and artists to perform at a

Gala Concert in Dubbo at the end of Term.

This week we will be working with Ms Denise McHugh

from NESA. The NSW Education Standards Authority

(NESA) is responsible for developing Kindergarten to Yr

12 syllabus for NSW schools. The NSW curriculum

includes the key learning areas (KLA’s) of English,

Mathematics, Science, Human Society ad it’s

Environment (HSIE/Geography) Languages, Technology,

Creative Arts and Personal Development, Health and

Physical Education (PDHPE). This will be a great

opportunity for teaching staff to engage in professional

learning about programming whilst Denise is on site.

Stage 2 and 3 Students Homework

All stage 2 and 3 students will receive a homework pack in week 1 to cover term 3. This pack will include a writing book, pencil, question sheet and a school

magazine. There are 20 activities on the homework sheet which averages 2 activities per week. The magazine has been given for any reading activities although students may use their own reading books. We look forward to seeing the homework books at the end of term and thank you in advance for supporting your child at home with these homeworkactivities.

Annual Athletics Carnival

On the 26th of July Collarenebri Central School hosted the Annual Athletics Carnival. It was a great day with all students showing great sportsmanship and effort. Students had the opportunity to participate in field events such as Discus, Shot put, Long jump and High jump. Including track events such as the 100m, 200m and 800m.

The day was finalised with relays and novelties, including a teacher vs student race, with the secondary team taking out the victory by the smallest of margins.

Novelties included a Tug-of-War challenge between the two house groups. Overall the day ran smoothly and the students represented themselves diligently. Congratulations to house ... for winning the day!

Neville Thorne Carnival

On the 08/08/19 Collarenebri merged with Goodooga

and Mungindi to create three NBSA teams for the

Neville Thorne Competition in Walgett. The U/14's

Boys, Open Girls and Open Boys.

We had students representing in each team. All

students acted respectfully and played with great

enthusiasm, a great representation of our wonderful

students. Even receiving praise from other schools staff

members. The U/14 Boys made it to the grand finale,

however they came runners up to Peel High School.

The Open Boys/Girls did not make the Play Offs,

although they played with their hearts and kept their

heads held high. With three of our junior girls playing in

the Opens to help out, a true testament of character.

The Open Boys met Walgett in the second round for an

exhilarating clash of rivalry, going point for point all

game, unfortunately Walgett came out on top by one

try. Overall it was an amazing day, and once again the

students showed just how amazing our school is, well

Book Week will be held in week 5 [19th—23rd August]. Teachers from K-12 will be teaching from selected short listed Books to engage students and expose them to a variety of rich, quality texts in the classroom. There will be a Book Week Parade held on Wednesday 21st August at 10:00am for K-12, Pre-School students and Gooimoo Playgroup children. The theme for this year’s Book Week is ‘Reading is my Secret Power’ and students are encouraged to dress as their favourite book character or superhero in keeping with the theme. Lunch will follow at 11:00am. We look forward to your support
