Principal’s Report
Welcome to Term 3 Week Two
I hope everyone had a safe and restful break; our term has certainly commenced in earnest. Last Wednesday presented some interesting challenges as most access roads to the school became impassable due to flooding; thankfully the rain has somewhat abated.
I wish to take the opportunity to welcome the new families that have joined our school community this term, I am sure you and your children will become valued members of our community. I encourage you to become involved in the many opportunities at school to participate in the learning activities of your children.
The School Development Day held on Monday last week was an excellent opportunity to work with staff from our Western Access Program Schools: Yeoval, Trundle, Tullamore, Trangie and Tottenham. The focus of the day was to deliver quality learning experiences for all students every day; one hundred and fifty staff worked collaboratively throughout the day to develop programs and strategies to ensure every student engages in a quality education.
This term Jyie Chapman from the Western NSW Family Referral Service joins our Wellbeing Team. Jyie will be at the school each Wednesday to work with students and families to ensure support services are available to support all families. Jyie can be contacted on 0417268547 or via the school phone on 68691304.
The Student Representative Council (SRC) today is holding a Green & Gold Fundraising event to raise funds to support our Paralympians. I commend the SRC for initiating and coordinating such a valuable event- Well Done!
This Friday students from Kindergarten to Year 12 will participate in information sessions led by the Future Moves Team from Charles Sturt University. Peak Hill Central School has a long standing relationship with CSU and the benefit to our students of the Future Moves Program is significant.
Our Stage 6 (Year 11 & 12) students continue to participate in
dedicated study days held both at Peak Hill and at our WAP
Schools; today HSC Industrial Technology are working in our
Trade Training Centre, tomorrow HSC Biology travel to
Trundle, while next week HSC PDHPE travel to Yeoval and
Stage 6 Metals & Engineering travel to Tottenham. Many of
our HSC students are also finalising the
completion of their major works for both
Industrial Technology and Visual Arts.
Next Wednesday we will be celebrating
Education Week, I encourage family and
community to come to school and join in the
celebration of education. The activities will
commence at 10.30am with a Whole School
Assembly.
I wish everyone all the best for the week
ahead; and please contact the school if you
wish to discuss any aspect of the education of
your child.

sessions or were otherwise involved in
the logistics of the day.
After an address from Maree Angus,
Director Lachlan Schools, staff were split
into common groups for further
professional learning and workshops, as
follows.
School Learning Support Officers worked
on literacy and numeracy strategies,
students’ health and wellbeing initiatives
and ways to increase their effectiveness
in supporting students.
Secondary teachers focused on the ‘Stand and Deliver’
project which is aiming to better support teachers in
maximising HSC results across the WAP, as well as
curriculum based network meetings to share best practice
in teaching and assessment.
Primary teachers were professionally developed in
Creative and Practical Arts, Gifted and Talented education
as well as networking around programming and resource
development.

For English Term 2 we were studying Fairy tales. We went to Dubbo to watch Roald Dahl’s The BFG (Big Friendly Giant).
My favourite part was when Sophie and BFG went to Buckingham Palace.
After the movie we went to McDonalds for lunch and on the way back Casey and I laughed all the way home.
By Tijuana Keed Year 7
We went to the movie The BFG (Big Friendly Giant) in Dubbo as we have been studying Fairy tales in Term 2 for English.
I would suggest watching the movie. It is a comedy Fairy Tale about a giant who steals a girl from an orphanage.

Peak Hill Central School students Taigan Brennan-Ingram & Trent Williams attended the “Nations of Origin” Tournament during the School Holidays. The Nations of Origin Tournament was held from the 12-14 July at Lake Macquarie & Raymond Terrace. Teams participated in Netball, Rugby League 7s & Soccer (Football 5s) during the Tournament.
Taigan played in the Wiradjuri (East) Football 5s team which took out the Grand Final, while Trent Williams refereed and ran the lines for the Ruby League 7s under the supervision of Mr Willy Barnes from Country Ruby League. A fantastic effort by Taigan and Trent.
The Nations of Origin is sponsored by the PCYC, which is

Origin’ and the role this event plays in promoting participation

Community News
Hello everyone!
Welcome back to Term 3! With the new term comes a wonderful opportunity to sign up for the 2016 Maas Group Dubbo Stam-pede to be held at the Taronga Western Plains Zoo on Sunday 28 August! Many of you have been part of The Stampede in the past, helping to make it a wonderful com-
munity experience and we would love for you to take part again or perhaps partici-pate for the first time.
The event that often appeals to families is the 5.5km Dingo Dash; a walk, jog or run that loops past animals from all around the world. However, the 10km Chee-tah Chase, 21.1km Zebra Zoom and the 42.2km Rhino Ramble are also alterna-tives.
Each year we run a Schools’ Challenge. Anyone who registers for one of the events at the Stampede can choose to register with a particular school; the school racking up the most registrations in each given category, receives a substantial monetary prize and trophy.
Details regarding events, times, pricing, merchandise and the registration process are available at www.dubbostampede.com.au
An event like The Dubbo Stampede also requires many, many enthusiastic volun-teers. If you think that encouraging walkers and runners or helping out is some-thing you or your family would like to be part of, we would love to hear from you via [email protected]
We look forward to seeing as many of our local families (and your friends and families!) as we can on Sunday 28 August.
Sarah Strahorn – Schools’ Co-ordinator www.dubbostampede.com.au
