Reaching Across the Globe! For several years now, Holy Trinity has sponsored a child, Britney Elizabeth Zavala Ramirez, from Ecuador. We pay $385.00 per year to the Unbound Organization to help with Britneys education and personal necessi- ties. The students of Holy Trinity have supported Britney from 1st grade to 6th grade now. We have helped to buy food, clothing, school supplies, a bed, a bike, and special holiday treats. Two times a year we send an addition- al check to assist with winter and summer needs, we have started a modest bank account for Britney. Britneys father sells coconut wa- ter on the beach to support the family so money is scarce. Brit- neys mother takes care of Britney and her siblings. Jobs are hard to find in the village they live. Every month one of our classes writes a letter to Britney, and her mother reads it to her, and they write back to us. The children love hearing about Brit- ney, her school and her family. This month, our stu- dents will learn again about Brit- ney, and will hear her last letter, and open our year of giving again. A Bank for Britneywill be in each classroom. Please work with us to show our children how to share and help other children who have less then they do. STAFF SPOTLIGHT Shared Leadership at Holy Trinity School One of the main goals of Mr. McCusker and myself this year will be to take a good look at our leadership model of the school and to continue to build it with more scaffold- ing of leaders. Three years ago, we had a Middle States Team visit us which gave us glowing reports, however, they made a point that all programming came back to the administrative office. While that is good for us and we have worked very hard to achieve it, we want to insure that our future has a strong foundation. The highest achieving schools in the nation are now using a "shared leadership model," which goes beyond parents making cupcakes and fundraising and beyond students helping at an event. It is about teachers, staff, parents, students and community taking on leadership roles to share that role with the administration of the school. Already, we are far ahead of most schools in this area. We have a very strong Home and School Association where concerns, questions and new programs can be presented, voted upon, and put into practice. We have a student leadership team who shop for and run student of the month luncheons along with other activities. We have several teachers and staff who moderate portions of the school, and we have a 21st Century After-School Program which encourages staff, parents and high school students to be leaders of activities in after- school clubs. As you see this year go forward, look for evidence of this in- creased effort towards "shared leadership," as we all take on roles as school leaders, working to continue the goals of affordability and sustainability for our parish school. The Value of Volunteers! You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give." Volunteers throughout the nation reflect the nation's compassion, kindness, un- selfish caring, patience, and concern for one another. Holy Trinity Catholic School thrives in large part on the amount of volunteerism we have enjoyed over the past ten years. Ten years ago, there were very few volunteers in the school during the school day. Today, on any given day, you cannot come into Holy Trinity without meeting our volunteers. They make our school run, and they bring the community from the outside to the inside of our building. Current- ly, we have over fifty people who volunteer with us, some during the school day, some after school, some with office help, some lunch help, etc. It is not only adults who are unemployed but often people who are employed looking for an opportunity to fill an hour or two a week with some type of service to our children. It is our intention this year to find a way to showcase this tremendous sense of volunteerism that exists here at Holy Trinity. Our hope is that soon you will see a visual display because this goes much further than just adults volunteering their time. It includes the teacher getting support, the student receiving services, and most importantly of all, students, staff and visitors being reminded of the importance a volunteer can make in an organization. " Thanks" would be too small of a word for all of the benefits we receive through our volunteers. Perhaps a wish for continued blessings for them and their families would be more appreciated! 9– 11 Day of Service On September 15th, a group of Holy Trinity Students and teach- ers volunteered to help at the 9- 11 Day of Service. This day of service is organized by our 5th grade teacher, Susan Smith. She coordinates this event with stu- dents from Villanova University. Under the leadership of Miss Susan Smith, the school and parish grounds are cleaned up, plants are planted and gardens are mulched. Its a great way to improve the beauty of the school. We would like to take this time to thank all the parents, Students in grades 5th– 8th grade who at- tended this great event. A special thanks goes to Mr. McCusker, Miss A, Mrs. Preston, Mrs. Pirraglia, Mrs. Hahn, Miss Nancy, Miss Traub and Mrs. My- ers for their assistance to make this day such a success!

2018– 2019 HTS Student Leaders

High Five Club

The High Five Club was creat-ed to acknowledge students who have earned special awards and accomplish-

ments every month. We rec-ognize these students each month following the first Fri-day 9:00AM mass, during an award assembly and on the High Five Bulletin Board in the main hallway at the school. Parents, teachers, and staff can nominate a stu-dent, who deserves to be congratulated for a job well done, success in an outside activity, or an unusual display of kindness!

To be an effective leader, one must have qualities that make other people desire to follow them. Here, at Holy Trinity, leadership has yet another dimension – leaders are called upon to lead in the style of our Leader, Jesus Christ, who led with kindness and compassion.

During our first Friday Mass on Oct. 5th, 2018, the students listed below were installed into the following leadership groups:
