We hope that everyone weathered the recent winter
storms and enjoyed our rare ‘Snow Day’. Throughout
the month of February, our students took part in a
variety of special Heritage Month events. We
celebrated the Lunar New Year; ‘100’ days of school;
Valentine’s Day; and Black Heritage Month. On the
court, we continued to experience excitement in athletics with: boys’
basketball; co-ed floor hockey and girls’ volleyball where our
Bridlewood athletes took part in various system-wide tournaments.
The athletes represented our school as true ‘Bronco ambassadors’. A
big thank you goes out to all our coaches for offering these extra cur-
ricular activities, and for accompanying our athletes to the various
games.
Add to this, student leadership training; Deaf and Hard of hearing
awareness presentation; ‘Find your Magic’ bullying presentation;
recognition assembly; twins and triplets spirit day; Eco focus; and a
multitude of musical excursions and you can see why February has
been a fun filled and exciting month at our school.
Our school improvement continues to center around sessions that
guide us through the ‘ Professional Learning Communities’ model.
This month, our staff met to complete a school reading continuum;
and to create experiential mathematics activities for our students. In
addition, we have added additional resources to help raise curriculum
standards. As always, our work focuses on equity, well being and
student voice.
It was a pleasure to see many families at the school during our
annual term one ‘Parent– Teacher’ interview days and to meet new
families and students during Kindergarten Registration.
We wish to remind you that school will be closed for the
March break from Monday March 11th to Friday
March 15th. Classes will resume on Monday
March 18th.
Wishing everyone a Happy March Break!

THE GARDEN CLUB IS LOOKING
FOR DONATIONS
In the Classroom
Students in Mr. Kuran’s class had an amazing day of learning about pulleys and gears lead
by Scientist Donna from Scientists in the School. They learned about pulleys and gears,
how pulleys and gears can make every day tasks easier and how machines in our everyday
world and environment use pulleys and gears to function efficiently. Students even had a
challenge of figuring out how these systems can be used to move things much bigger than
themselves. We sure learned a lot about the world of engineering and science and how
these tools can help us! By: Mr. Kuran

It is exciting to see the battery box filling up
so quickly. Thank you for supporting this
initiative. Students should bring the batteries
to Mrs. Hough so they can be taped/bagged as
need be. This is to prevent fires and deal
with any leaking batteries. Part of this is to
teach students safety when dealing with
these items. Thank you. Mrs. Hough

Winter Activities for the Outdoor Enthusiast
One of the many things that makes Canada such a great place to live is its array of beautiful
natural landscapes and the outdoor activities that they offer. Just because it’s winter doesn’t
mean that you can’t enjoy them. In fact, there are many outdoor activities that are still possi-
ble (if not better!) in the winter months. Since Canadian winters can seem to drag on forever,
there’s really only one thing left to do: bundle up and embrace the great outdoors.

Keep your heart beating strong
February is heart health month, making it the perfect time to learn more about heart disease
and how you can help prevent it by living a healthier life.
What is heart disease?
Heart disease is a buildup of plaque in the heart’s arteries that can lead to a heart attack,
heart failure or death. Approximately 1 out of 12 (or 2.4 million) Canadians live with heart
disease. However, as of 2013, the rate of Canadians diagnosed with heart disease began de-
creasing.

Poster and Multimedia Challenge
Instructions for Students
How do I help create a Plastic Free World?
If plastic pollution was bagged up and arranged across all of the world’s shorelines, we
could build a plastic wall around every shoreline and the sea. Plastics wash up on beach-
es and can be found in the stomachs of more than half the world’s sea turtles and nearly
all of its marine birds. Plastics litter our cities and oceans, and growing evidence shows
how they contribute to health problems in humans and animals. By 2050, there will be
more plastic than fish in the world’s oceans! This is a problem we can help solve by
cleaning up plastic trash, drastically reducing the amount of plastic used and recycling
100 percent of the rest. How do you limit your use of single use plastic?
Elementary and Secondary students are invited to display their creativity and to share
with us the ways in which they can work towards “Building a Single-Use Plastics
Free World”. What do YOU think is the best way to limit the use of single use plastic
items? All entries will be displayed on-site at Eco Fair 2019
and will also receive a certificate of participation.
