Principal’s Message: Co-operate Attend Respect Excel Successful Junior Picnic Games Day We had the most amazing Junior Picnic Games Day last Friday! I was de- lighted to see so many parents, grandparents and other family members not only attending the day (with their eskies) but also joining in the great activities. A huge thank you to Mr Downes for organizing such a fantastic day. Our Student Leaders also made a huge contribution to the success of the day, by manning stations and encouraging our younger students. The day would not have been such a success, without the wonderful teamwork of our staff – those who were up on the oval all day with only minimal breaks and staff not involved in the activities who covered du- ties. STUDENT FREE DAY Next Monday 19 October 2015 will be a Student Free Day for all Queensland State Schools. Staff will attend professional learning activi- ties on that day. Year 6 Canberra Trip The Year 6 Canberra trip information meeting will take place 6.00 pm on Monday 26 October. The venue for this meeting will be in the seminar rooms of the library. The meeting will commence at 6.00 pm and finish by 7.00 pm. The purpose of the evening is to provide an overview of the trip, finalise arrangements including the final costing per child and items re- quired, and answer any questions. Camp dates for 2016: Here are next year’s camp dates and approximate costs, so that you have plenty of time to plan and save. Swimming Swimming instruction will commence on Monday 2 November. The program consists of 6 swimming lessons over a two week period. Swimming days will be Monday 02/11/2015, Tuesday 03/11/2015, Friday 06/11/2015, Monday 09/11/2015, Tuesday 10/11/2015, and Friday 13/11/2015. As swimming is part of the school curriculum all students are urged to participate. A note went home last week with further information for parents/caregivers. Prep Information Sessions for Parents Parent information sessions for Prep students attending CPSS in 2016 will be held during Week 3 – 20 October – Tuesday evening 7-8:15 pm; 21 October – Wednesday 1:30-2:45pm; and 24 October – Friday 9:30am – 10:45am. We still have some places available for Prep next year. If you know someone who may be interested in attending our Prep in 2016, please ask them to call the office for further information. If you haven’t already en-rolled your Prep eligible child yet, I would encourage you to do so as soon as possible.

Summer Sport We have decided to have a change of format for our Summer Sport program. More and more schools are choosing not to participate in Interschool sport competitions, particular-ly in Term 4. Last year we were only able to play against one other team for cricket. We will be conducting inter-house sport afternoons, each Friday afternoon (apart from when Mr Downes is instructing swimming). We will be playing Oztag and Newcombe (modified volleyball). This type of sport arrangement gives us the opportunity to develop house spir-it, as well as skills for students as well as it being inclusive of all students. There will be no cost to families. Our Friday sports afternoons will commence this Friday. Grandparents Day – Sunday 25 October Grandparents Day is a chance for children and the community to thank grandparents for their love and support. This special day recognises the significant contribution that grandparents make to their families and communities. It is also an occasion for acknowl-edging the efforts and devotion of grandparents who are full-time carers for their grand-children. We will be celebrating this special day with a range of activities for grandparents and special friends of Prep – Year 2 students on Wednesday 28 October. Invitations will be sent out shortly. Buddy Club This week will see the wrap up training for what has been referred to as ‘Buddy Club’. To tie in with the new CPSS values however, we have decided to change the name to – ‘THE

CARE CREW’. Our dedicated year 6 trainees will be referred to as ‘CARE CROWS’. A spe-cial assembly will be held on Wednesday 21st October 2015, where Care Crows will be awarded their certificates. Parents/Carers are most welcome to attend. Care Crows are keen to commence in their new roles. Some Care Crows will be providing support for games and play in the Small Covered Area, whilst others will be out in the school grounds offering play support to other children. The Care Crew will start in their new roles on

Monday 26th October.

Deputy Principal’s Message It’s been wonderful to see the students settled back into the school routine and engaged in

their learning. This is a very busy term with lots of exciting events: camps… swimming… sport.

However, the normal school routine continues too, with lots of learning experiences to complete before the end of the year.

A wide variety of play time options continue to be offered at First Break, with a couple of extra

options this term. Check out the table below to see what’s on offer. In the interests of safety,

some activities will have a maximum number of participants or be offered only to particular

year levels. Students are regularly reminded about the options on offer at morning assembly.

We welcome the Prep students out into the other playground areas this term. Many of them

have been very excited to be out of the confines of the Prep playground and to have the oppor-

tunity to take part in some of the activities listed below.

Thank-you to our fabulous teachers and fabulous volunteers whose flexibility and support

make it possible for our students to have so many play options at break time.

Reading Eggs Update

We have some fantastic news! Our school is back online with ABC Reading Eggs and

Reading Eggspress. Throughout Term 2 we were lucky enough to participate in a whole

school trial of the Reading Eggs program. As a school we have decided to purchase a

membership for all students from Prep to Year 6. The original login details that were

provided to all students in term 2 have now been reactivated and can be used both at

home and at school. A parent information letter will be sent home soon.

If you would like to login to ABC Reading Eggs and Reading Eggspress here is the web-site link: http://readingeggs.com.au/
