Principal’s Message

Last Friday, School Infrastructure hosted their pop-up

information booth here at school. It was a great opportunity to

show the progress that has been made with the designs. Through

the process we’ve been able to have lots of input into how the

designs will best fit the needs of the school and look forward to

the end product being delivered next year.

Headstart

Next week Years 5 and 6 from Cedar class will be attending the

Headstart program at Lake Macquarie High School. This is two full

weeks at the high school with Mr Bukey supporting. For Year 6

students it is a great time to prepare for the start of Year 7, which

is rapidly approaching. For Year 5 students it is also a great

opportunity to get a sneak peek into high school life and give

another full year to prepare.

Students are expected to follow not just our school’s

expectations, but to comply and model the expectations of Lake

Macquarie High School.

Year 4 students from Cedar will be joining with their peers in

Wattle during the two weeks.

Preparing for 2020

At this point of year we’re doing lots of planning for 2020. Next

year will be (again) our biggest Kinder intake in the last 20 years

and the whole school population continues to grow. While we

don’t wish to see anyone leave the family, we know that

sometimes the end of year brings movements out of the area and

even interstate.

If you are aware that you are moving at the end of this year we

ask if you can please let the office know so we are able to

accurate plan our staff and classes for 2020.

Early Arrivals

I’ve become increasingly concerned over the number of students

who are here at school before 8.30am each morning. Each day I

see over ten students in school well before 8.30am, sometimes

arriving before any school staff are on site.

There is absolutely no supervision for students prior to 8.30am

and it is not safe for students to be on site before that time.

Mrs Hazel

During the holidays Mrs Hazel had an unfortunate accident which

has resulted in a broken leg resulting in pins, screws and half of a

hardware store to repair. This has left Mrs Hazel immobile for the

time being an unable to attend work. Miss Steele has been filling

in on Blue Gum class. We’re hopeful to see Mrs Hazel back in a

few weeks, better, faster and stronger than before.

Upcoming Choir Performances

Our school choir has been invited to perform at two upcoming

performances leading up to Christmas. Firstly, our choir will

perform next Wednesday 13th of November for the launch of the

Kmart Wishing Tree at Glendale. Permission notes will be coming

out soon as we organise a bus for transport. Parents and

community are welcome to join us at Kmart Glendale to see our

choir perform at 10am.

Then on Monday 2nd December our choir will also perform for the

Lord Mayor’s Christmas Appeal. This is being held over the at the

Council chambers and permission is covered by the green general

permission form.

Reminders

P&C UPDATE WEEK 4, TERM 4, 23 OCTOBER 2019

P & C Update:

We had a few new faces at the last P&C meeting, and they got the

chance to learn what our P&C is all about. Which is mostly having

a chat, a few laughs, and learning what’s going on at the school at

the moment.

OK, we also do some fundraising stuff too. This Includes coming

up with plans for our end of year events, such as a chance to

welcome our new Kindy families with some much-needed

morning coffee. And, what we have in store to support the school

at the Lights on the Lawn event.

Kinder transition

We had a good turn out and our Kindy Parents got a chance to

meet other new Kindy parents as well as some of those parents

that are going through this for second and/or third time. Big

thanks to our Volunteers who served up morning tea, coffee and

friendship on the day.

Lights on the Lawn

The P&C will be hosting a few booths at this event and we will let

you know more as the date approaches. But, at this stage we are

looking for raffle prize contributions. If you wish to make a prize

donation, you can drop it into the school office. If you are wanting

to make a contribution/donation/sponsorship pledge please feel

free to contact us on the Facebook page - Speers Point P&C - and

we can get back to you. Alternatively call the office and they will

get you in touch with a committee member to let you know how

you can help make our little schools event the best yet.
