We do not accept requests for specific teachers. If you already know that your child/ children are not attending Angle Vale Primary School in 2020 (eg going interstate, have enrolled at another school etc.) can you please notify the front office in writing (email/ letter) asap. Dear parents / caregivers, grandparents, aunties, uncles and friends,

CAN YOU HELP? This year we would like to have a focus on succulent plants for our traditional Family Fun Night plant stall.

I have collected some cuttings (see the photo above) but am keen to have a few more varieties to sell. We could use small cuttings of a similar size to those in the photo to pot ourselves or you could pot some up for us and keep them until the event (Thursday 5th December). Bulbs of many kinds are also popular and if you could provide us with either winter or summer flowering bulbs – or any other plants you think suitable for our stall we would be very grateful.

Larger cuttings of many plants (eg frangipani) are also very popular. They could be brought in on the night as well or could be sent in just before the day.

We don’t have much space outside to keep plants in pots so if you could look after them for us that would be a great help.

Thank you for your support.

Phil Malcolm

Science Unit - Callistemon BuildingAnd in the Callistemon Building there were some chicks… E-I-E-I-O!Spring has clucked its way into the Callistemon Building. As part of our Science unit ‘Watch it grow!’ we were very lucky to get some fertilised chicken eggs. With 12 eggs in 2 incubators, the students watched the eggs move and listened to the chirps and cracking sounds from beneath the shell. We watched on eagerly as the eggs began pipping. Finally, the first chicks hatched. Over the course of a week we watched as the chicks continued to hatch. Each day the students ran to discover new chicks and explore changes to their chirpy classmates. We fed, raked and watched over the fluffy chicks. Classes observed changes in the chicks such losing their egg tooth, watching them learn to scratch for food, seeing the change in their feathers and size as they grew. There have been some amazing discussions over the past 2 weeks, and it was sad to say goodbye as the chicks moved on to their forever homes.

Incubator - a device simulating bird incubation by keeping eggs warm and in the correct humidity, to hatch them.

Pipping - a small crack or chip knocked out of the eggshell by a chick just beginning to hatch.

Egg tooth - a tiny horn-like shape at the tip of the upper beak of a newly hatched chick. Soon after the chick hatches, the egg tooth falls off. This tooth helps the chick to break the shell and get out of the egg.

These are our story starters based on this picture.

On rainy day a cute, little girl called Mia and her parents were shuffling

across the long path in a small busy village. It was an extremely rainy

morning but it was still very busy. Mia saw dozens and dozens of grey

umbrellas and it was a very mesmerising sight. - Rosemarie

It was a rainy, stormy and windy day. You could not see anything

outside and Brodie was scared, he was really frightened. Bricks were

blowing around from houses. - Charlotte

Jack was sitting on a big, grassy hill in the afternoon. He started seeing

dark clouds appearing. It started to rain, and then it started to pour

with rain. It became really stormy. - Cohen

It was a dark, stormy night. There was thunder rumbling and lightning

striking throughout the sky. Olivia could not get to sleep but her

parents were both fast asleep at the other end of the house. - Lilly

One day it was little sunny but it was SO cold. I bet it was as cold

as Antarctica. I had put one hundred jumpers on because I was

FREEZING! - Chelsea

One day little Jack woke up. It was a sunny day until an hour or so

later. The dark storm clouds rolled in and it started to spit. It spat and

spat until it started to rain. Jack was crushed. He was really looking

forward to playing outside. - Charlotte

At 7am Coco heard a big bang. He looked outside and saw his best

friend, Jack, dancing on the doorstep. - Jaxson

Using this picture as a prompt, we planned and wrote narratives. These are some of our narrative introductions.

10:11pm The wizard walked down the mountains slowly as he tried not to

disturb the creatures then … crack… tick, tick, tick, tick the creature went

as it crawled towards the wizard. - Hayden

“It’s the foggiest day I’ve seen in awhile …” mumbled Wizard Wanderer.

He looked up before grabbing his stick, wrapping his purple cloak more

tightly around himself and wandering off into the fog. - Cooper

It was one mysterious cold day out on the stormy mountains. Grim reaper

was alone once again. It was time for him to go to the dead again so he

opened the portal and walked through, but he had forgotten something and

couldn’t go back. Oh no! he thought, I need to go back to get the recipe.

Agh! I think I remember it. At least I have my scythe. - Christian

Bang!!! Thunder was approaching. Boom!!! OMG will you just be quiet sky,

said Bob to himself. - Jake

Bang! A massive rock, boulder or asteroid came flying in the sky and landed

on a large, foggy mountain. Then a bit of the rock opened and a weird

human or mystical alien came out for revenge. The character walked from

mountain to mountain in the icy cold night. Finally he found what looked

to be an abandoned house. As he walked through the crooked gate a loud

HOWL came from nearby. He grabbed the handle of the creaky front door,

hesitantly pushed it open and a bunch of bats flew out and rushed past

him. - Blayke

It was a stormy day deep in the terrifying forest. There was a lonely man

called the Lonely Wanderer. The Lonely Wanderer had evil, dark magic. He

was also a grim reaper. On August 1st at 10pm he was putting old dead

bodies in a huge graveyard, but suddenly he … - Annaliese

It was a dark and foggy night in the mystical mountains where Professor

Ron Fadeth was sitting. He had a purple cloak over his head and a crest-

like staff. This was Ron’s favourite place to sit if he wanted to be alone.
