Signing In : Month of August has a very special significance in the heart of every Indian. Every bit of freedom: of speech, of thought, of expression, of movement, of learning, of entertainment etc. is the result of scores of peoples selfless service. They have risked their lives, so that we are able to relish the freedom. In turn, it becomes our bounden duty to ‘light a candle’ to dispel the darkness of evil from our mother-land, India. Bharath Matha ki Jay! Everything was in place in the small state of Kerala: “God’s own country”, to celebrate the Independence Day followed by another important festival of Onam. Torrential rains filled the mighty and minute dams of Kerala and all the shutters of 34 dams were wide open to prevent a worse catastrophe of dam-break! August 14,15,16 were days of great anxiety. Every minute brought the shocking news of one more district under the flood waters. Never in the recent history we have heard of flood waters engulfing all the districts at a time! This was a unique tragedy that tore through the heart of Kerala. For days and weeks people were stranded, starved and many of them lost their beloved ones! The flood waters have practically swept off everything, ruined most of the habitable places. It will take another life time to re-build this “God’s own country”. Let’s express our heartfelt solidarity to our Kerala brethren and pray for their speedy recovery. I am very much attracted by the mesmerizing spirit of Vivekananda who for the first time in the history addressed the august assembly of parliament of world religion in America in the most cordial language: My Brothers and Sisters of America! As he completed his hour long speech without any written note, he got a standing ovation, an unimaginable gesture, for an Indian. There is much more to learn from him. Awake! Arise!! Vivekananda is always a great source of motivation for time immemorial. He said “Stand up, be bold, be strong. Take the whole responsibility on your shoulders and know that you are the creator of your own destiny. All the Strength and succor you want is within yourself.” You make your own future, you are your own designer. To do any good thing, you do not need anything other than an indomitable will and character to withstand obstacles. Passion and Compassion are sufficient to do anything good. “Arise, by lifting others. Awake, by enlightening others. General Block :Superannuation :Superannuation function of two most energeticand hardworking faculty- Dr.A.U.Durga Devi,HOD of Management Studies and Dr.N. ThripuraSundari, HOD of Telugu Department took placeon 4th August,2018 with lot of pomp and glory. Thefunction started with a prayer song and welcome

dance. Mrs. Ume Salma, Lecturer in Hindi,welcomed the gathering and introducedDr.N.Thripura Sundari highlighting the memorableevents from her life and dedicated service.Mrs.Santosh Jhawar, Lecturer in ManagementStudies, introduced Dr.A.U. Durga Devi to theaugust gathering. Dr.Sr. Mercy, the principal,conveyed her wishes to the celebrities of the day.A power point presentation was prepared tounderline the good golden days of Dr.A.U.DurgaDevi which captured the attention of the audience.The Traditional felicitations began with Dr. Sr.Mercy followed by Dr.Sr. Marietta D’Mello,Sr. Showrilu, Sr. Suneela Rani, HomeDepartments, different Faculties, friends andfamily members. The college Managementthanked them profusely for their long, relentlessand yeoman service of 36 years!

Independence Day Celebrations :72nd Independence Day was celebrated in a grandmanner. All the Management, Staff and Studentsparticipated with Patriotic Spirit. Dr. Sathya Devi,HOD of Commerce hoisted the Flag.Dr. Nagavardhanam, H.O.D. of Botany was theguest of honour.In her speech stressed that ascitizens of India we all must have great regard forour Nation and we need to express our gratitudetowards the sacrificial life of our soldiers andfreedom fighters. She also insisted that we must

work for the development of our Nationirrespective of caste, region, colour and religion.Later, various cultural activities were performedby the Clinical Nutrition students depicting thepatriotic spirit. Community College students madeus know the great works of freedom fightersthrough Mime on “Soldiers life in Army”. Theprogramme came to an end leaving behind a greatand memorable message fitting for the day.

Students’ Block :Knowledge Extension:On 2nd August, 2018 III B.Sc., MECS students putup an extension program on “Robotics:the Future”under the guidance of Ms. K. Sathyavathi,Lecturer in Physics and Electronics. Thedifferent parts of Robots and it’s technology;applications of Robotics in various fields likeMedicine, Defence, Service, Industry, Mining, andDomestic purposes are explained in detail byvisual graphics and Power Point Presentations.

III B.Sc M.S.Computers presented a knowledgeextension program entitled “Tech Trends” underthe guidance of Mrs.P.Lakshmi Prasanna,Department of Computer Science on 2nd August,2018.The students explained about variouslatest technologies like Graphics and Visualizaton;Advances in Automobile and Glass Technologies.It’s a great source of knowledge indeed.

II and III B.Vocational clinical and Aqua LabTechnology students presented a knowledgeextension programme on 9th August, 2018 on“by-products of fish” under the guidance of wardtutor Mrs.G.Suneetha, lecturer in Zoology.Students explained about various by-products offish like Fish Meal, Fish oil, fish liver oil, fishmanure, fish silage, ising glass, fish glue, fish skin,fish flour, fish roes, fish flakes, fish tail fins,artificial pearls. Students used various methodslike skits and dances to express the importanceof various by-products. The information waspresented very creatively.

III B.Voc Web Technology and Multimediastudents performed a Knowledge Extension onVisual Effects called VFX on 9th August, 2018.They explained how VFX is used to create theimpossible, very expensive and impractical things.Their batch logo MERIDA was presented wellfollowed by Dinosaur Blue character in JurassicWorld II done in After Effects software. Audienceappreciated and admired their creativity.

On 30th August, 2018 III BZC students presenteda knowledge Extension programme on “AnimalInteractions” under the guidance of ward tutorDr. R. Indira, H.O.D. of Zoology. They depictedthe beauty and harmony in Nature and howdifferent kinds of animals interact with one anotherto maintain the balance of Eco system. Using

convincing visuals they emphasized about theeffects of destruction of the nature for our selfishends.The students clearly made us know throughpower point presentation, dance and one act play“Save nature-save mankind”.

Earn While Learn :III B.Sc Botany students from 6th to 9th Augustestablished a tiny nursery by propagatingornamental plant varieties through stem cuttingwhich is one of the vegetative propagationtechniques. At present the nursery contains 100saplings. The students are marketing the saplingsas a part of ‘Earn while Learn’ programme.

Department Club Inaugurations:The Department of Mathematics and Statisticsinaugurated Mathematics Association–KNOWLEDGE Club on 14th July for the academic

year 2018-19. III B.sc M.S computers StudentsPresented a power point on “Role of womenMathematicians in Mathematics”.

The Department of Physics and Electronicsinaugurated Electronics Club-E-hub on 10th

August. It was inaugurated with prayer followedby lighting of the lamp. A Quiz Program wasconducted for all the E-hub members by theoffice bearers of E-hub. After their activeparticipation the winners were given prizes byDr.A.Nirmala Jyothsna, HOD of Physics andElectronics. The Academic achievers of II and IVSemesters were also awarded prizes by our VicePrincipal Rev.Sr.Showrilu. The curtains weredrawn with the valuable messages by Rev.Sr.Showrilu. and Dr.A.Nirmala Jyothsna.

The Department of Physics and Electronicsinaugurated Physics-Scope Club on 11th August2018. The students prepared a feast of four Powerpoint presentations on “Different types of Lasers”;“Lasers and its applications”; “Lasers and itsimpact on mankind” and “Holography and itsapplications”. The PPT presentations were quiteinteresting and highly informative .The academicachievers of II and IV semesters were awardedprizes by Dr.A.Nirmala Jyothsna, HOD ofPhysics and Electronics. The program was drawnto a close with an inspirational message byDr.A.Nirmala Jyothsna.

The Department of PG Physics organizedInauguration of Space Club on 13th August, 2018for the academic year 2018-2019. In thiscontext, Space Club office bearers conducted Quizprogramme on “Concepts of Physics, Scientificabbreviations, Scientists and Discoveries followedby Visual connection round”. Students participatedactively and enhanced their knowledge. Dr.A. Nirmala Jyothsna, HOD of Physics andElectronics awarded the winners and inspiredthem by her motivational message.

Theatre Arts Club was Inaugurated byMrs.M.K.Padmalatha, HOD of PG Departmentof English on 13th August, 2018. The students

enacted “Janet Eyre" by chariot Bronte andperformed cultural activities. This encouraged thestudents to sharpen their communication skillsand to get rid of stage fear.

Students Seminar :Ms.R.Kusuma Rekha and team from II B.ScM.S.Computers presented a Seminar on the topic“Ancient Mathematician Arya Bhatta” on 21st July,2018 to the members of Mathematics Association.

Add-On Courses :In order to help the students to cop up withdigital world, communication skills, careerdevelopment, job interviews, work place andsocial networking, the Department of PG Englishunder the guidance and support of PG DirectorDr.Sr.Marietta D’mello, introduced Communica-tion Skills as an add-on course for the 1st yearPG students.

Workshops Organized:Department of Home Science organized aworkshop from 30th July to 1st August, 2018 forthe first year students of Home Science andDiploma in Fashion Designing by Mrs. I.ArunaKumari, Pidilite Industries, Mumbai. One strokepainting, Glass painting techniques, Tie and dyetechniques, LipponWork, Mural and Varli paintingtechniques, Liquid embroidery, Kalamkari art, Cutwork, Pendent art techniques were demonstrated.Products prepared by the students wereexhibited. Students were very glad to learnvarious painting skills through the workshop.

Azolla-Inoculation :II and I B.Sc., Botany students inoculated Azollaa bio-fertilizer, in paddy fields of St.Ann’sconvent on 6th and 18th August respectively. This

Internship Programme :The Departments of Mathematics andComputer Science organized an InternshipProgra mme in collaboration with SpectrumSolutions, Pondicherry, from 17th to 21st August,

inoculation helps to minimize the use of syntheticfertilizers in the agricultural lands and to reducethe soil pollution.

Pondicherry. Students were trained insophisticated technological skills which enabledand enhanced the creativity of students.

All the II B.Sc Computer Science studentsparticipated and learnt how to assemble robo withdifferent components and used them in ROBObattle. Initially the Robos worked manually bychanging the robo channels. Later the studentsinstructed the robos to work with programminginstructions. Mr.U.Ranjith Kumar, faculty cumco-ordinator of Robotics Club, C.R.R. College ofEngineering, Eluru was the judge for the ROBObattle.

The Program was a multidisciplinary,intercollegiate event in which more than 400students Participated and learnt how to makerobots and use them in the Robo Battle. Thewinners- II M.S. Computer Students wereawarded with shield and the best robot creatorwas given cash Prize. St.Theresa collegebecame INDIA’S First Degree College to organizesuch an innovative event-Robowar.

Exhibition:On 8th August, 2018 the Department of HomeScience exhibited the articles prepared bystudents of I B.Sc Home Science and D.F.D.duringthe workshop. Dr.Sr.Mercy, Principal, Sr. Suneela

Rani, Controller of Examination, Staff andStudents visited the exhibition, admired andappreciated the hard work and creativity.

Guest Lectures :Department of Applied Sciences organized aGuest Talk on 1st August, 2018 by Mr. Vishnu.,Wellness Coach of ‘Life Sukeebhava’. The topicwas“ Wellness Management”, to all the U.G. andP.G. Nutrition Students. He made students tounderstand about the Prospects of Wellness inIndustries.

On the occasion of valedictory function for breastfeeding week Department of AppliedBioSciences organized a guest lecture on 8th

August, 2018 by Dr.S.Sailaja-surgicalOncologist from Good Samaritan Hospital,Vangayagudem, on the topic “Prevalence andPrevention of breast cancer." About 2000 studentsalong with teaching staff were present for theprogramme.

A Guest lecture by Dr.L.V.Padmavathi AndDr.Santhi sagar from Lions Club wasorganized by Dr. D.Fathima Rani, Department ofEnglish on 27th August. The guest facultyoriented the students for service in society andmotivated students to join Lions Club as YoungLEO’s and to serve people. Nearly 100 B.Scstudents Participated.

Awareness Programme :The Department of social sciences organizedan awareness talk on health hazards sponsoredby Rotaract club, Eluru on 28th August 2018.Dr.Y.Krishna, an orthopedician, gave awarenesstalk on health hazards due to the deficiency of

vitamin D. The students of Rotaract and NSS gotenlightened. Mrs .D.Brahmeswari Rtd.HOD, DrP.Ratna mary, HOD of social sciences,Ms.Y.Sailaja and Dr.M.Rama were also presentfor the programme.

World Breast Feeding Week :The Departments of Home Science and PGClinical Nutrition organized World BreastFeeding Week from 1st to 7th August, 2018 at St.Theresa’s College. Theme of the year was ‘BreastFeeding-Foundation of life’. M.Sc., ClinicalNutrition students K.Teja Sri and M. Rajithacreated an awareness on the importance of Breastfeeding. Later Mr.Vishnu from Vishnu Wellnesscentre spoke on Health and wellness.

Field trips / Tours :Dr.M.Rama and Mrs.N.Gayatridevi Departmentof Chemistry along with 53 final year students

visited WANBURY pharmaceuticals at Tanuku on1st August, 2018. Students were inspired byseeing the instruments and working condition inQC and R&D labs.

NCC Selection :NCC Girl Cadets Enrolment for the year 2018-2019 was held at St. Theresa’s College on 11thAugust,2018. Lt.Col.B.Leeladhar, the Command-ing Officer, Lt. Col. Md. Ansar, the AdministrativeOfficer and the PI Staff of 19 (A) BN NCCconducted the selection for 140 Volunteerstudents. After checking the basic required heightand weight, the physical tests were conducted and

42 of them got selected to be enrolled as NCCCadets. Lt. Col. B. Leeladhar, the CommandingOfficer and Lt. Col. Md.Ansar, the AdministrativeOfficer appreciated Major Dr. Celine Rose and theNCC cadets for their commendable performancein general and Republic Day parade, Delhi inparticular.
