Newsletter No. 5 Term 1 Week 5 6 th March 2019 Principal’s Corner –te iwi tahi tatou –we are one family… One of our school goals is CONNECTED TO EXCELLENCE and today I am sharing the excellent school wide results achieved in literacy and numeracy in 2018. (School wide means every child from Year 0 – Year 6.) 89% of students achieved at or above the standard in reading, with 60% of students achieving above the standard Student achievement for Maori 87%, Pacifika 100% and Asian 87% 80% of students achieved at or above the standard in writing, with 35% of students achieving above the standard Student achievement for Maori 77%, Pacifika 100% and Asian 80% 86% of students achieved at or above the standard in maths, with 44% of students achieving above the standard Student achievement for Maori 77%, Pacifika 90% and Asian 88% These results are a reflection of the effort and commitment of every staff member here, and also the support you provide to help each of our students’ in their learning journey; an excellent job well done! What doesn’t change is our commitment to help every child reach their potential within a supportive, caring, fun and challenging learning environment. Of course it is really important to recognise that our aim at school is to develop, encourage and celebrate not only the academic achievements, but the unique qualities of each and every child. It is vital to us that in the time students spend at Churton Park School, every child gets opportunities to “shine”. That could be in sport, production, leadership, kapa haka, choir, dance, greenies, values and key competencies… and many of these fill our newsletter each week. It is an aspect of school life at Churton Park School I am also very proud of. You can see our CONNECTION TO EXCELLENCE remains – and we look forward to sharing the progress and achievement of your children throughout the year. Principal’s Corner –te iwi tahi tatou –we are one family…

One of our school goals is CONNECTED TO EXCELLENCE and today I am sharing the excellent school wide results achieved in literacy and numeracy in 2018. (School wide means every child from Year 0 – Year 6.) 89% of students achieved at or above the standard in reading,

with 60% of students achieving above the standard Student achievement for Maori 87%, Pacifika 100% and Asian 87%

80% of students achieved at or above the standard in writing, with 35% of students achieving above the standard Student achievement for Maori 77%, Pacifika 100% and Asian 80% 86% of students achieved at or above the standard in maths, with 44% of students achieving above the standard Student achievement for Maori 77%, Pacifika 90% and Asian 88% These results are a reflection of the effort and commitment of every staff member here, and also the support you provide to help each of our students’ in their learning journey; an excellent job well done!

It is an aspect of

school life at Churton Park School I am also very proud of.

You can see our CONNECTION TO EXCELLENCE remains – and we look forward to sharing the progress and achievement of your children throughout the year.

SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR OUR WONDERFUL HOME AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION

At the last Home & School Association Meeting we discussed the success of the Family Fun Night

and also made some notes as to how we can improve it for next year. The Bumper Balls & Bouncy

Castle proved to be a great hit with the kids.

At the AGM, which will be held on Monday 1st April, we will be launching our

Fundraising Plan for 2019 and would like to invite all the parents to come

along. You won’t be asked (pushed!) to do anything you don’t want too, but it

is the one meeting of the year where you can show your support and say

thank you to all those parents/caregivers who work so hard on behalf of

every child in our school.

Our upcoming fundraisers for Term 1:

Entertainment Books - Launching 28 March

Pizza Lunch Orders - 2 & 4 April

Have you thought about becoming a board member for our school? Later this year we have Board of Trustees elections, and we are hoping many of you will consider standing for election. This is a great opportunity to come along to New Zealand School Trustees Association (NZSTA) hui to find out about becoming a school trustee. Crofton Downs Primary School hall, 2 April 2019 at 6.00 pm in the lead up to elections. At the hui you’ll hear about: • What is a school board of trustees • What do trustees do • What skills do trustees need • How do I become a trustee

• How is a board elected • What help do school trustees get • How does the board of trustees work

Congratulations Student Councillors. Each of these students, after presenting

speeches to their classes, were elected by their

peers to represent them on the Student Council.

It is not easy to put yourself forward in this

way, so I thank all those students who were

willing to try for these roles. During the year,

they will all be involved in fundraising for our

sponsored child Karim, will bring ideas to the

Council to make our school an even better place

and also represent us at the Anzac Day parade.

Congratulations to Zyla Sharma, James Auld, Kacey McCully, Didula Wijayapala, Belle Tankersley, Evie

Wilson, Vanessa Liu, Niyumi Hittihamillage, Aurora Mather, Yenul Rathnayake, Jack Harris, Mio

Pennycook, Zavier Dunne and Sofia Demicoli.

INTO WEEK 5 ALREADY…and we love working with your children and helping them learn. We appreciate your help with this by:

remembering classrooms open at 8.30am. Please respect this as teachers are often getting things set up for the day before this in the morning if you want to chat about something specific with your child’s teacher, please make an appointment as once class starts, we don’t want learning time to be interrupted. However we enjoy chatting to you before school so pop in between 8.30-9am Thank you for waiting outside classrooms at the close of the day so that teachers and children can get those end of day tasks completed Parents are asked to refrain from bringing dogs into our school grounds. If necessary, please make sure they are not in close proximity to children (not in

doorways or closed spaces) We prefer cell phones are not brought to school. However if it is needed for something specific, it must be handed to the teacher for safekeeping during the day Just little reminders that help the school day go well for everyone – thank you for your support
