TAP – Teaching Awareness Through Puppetry
This show was offered to Bowmore on behalf of Sandy Spyropoulos,
Chief Academic Officer – Special Education, Section Programs and
Student Support Services
Our school was so lucky to be selected. The performance was by the
group “Teaching Awareness Through Puppetry”. Kirsten Sixt,
Program Director at TAP, co-ordinated the event with us. Children in
Grades 1-2 learned about how to be more tolerant and accept
differences in people. The second show was about how to address
bullying if they experience it at Bowmore.
Mathematica is a series of Math Contests for students from Grade 3 to
Grade 8. Over 60 000 students across Canada participate. Congratulations to all participants and teachers involved! We were thrilled to have over 150 students write the contest this year. Every student that participated will receive a certificate. Individual medal winners (for the top score in the school at each grade level) are: Grade 3 - Noah I. Grade 6 - Samuel P. Grade 4 - Ray C. Grade 7 - Simon H. Grade 5 - Andrew L. & Joshua L. Grade 8 - Amy Y. Special congratulations to Ray C. who obtained a perfect score (30/30) on the Bryron-Germain Contest. Across Canada, 9 858 students wrote this Grade 4 contest. Ray shares his perfect score with one student from Oakville (Fern Hill School) and another student from Toronto (The Giles School). To find out more about the contest or the results ( e.g. honor rolls, answer keys), visit www.mathematicacentrum.ca.
Read, Read, Read! Please encourage your child to read and write often over the summer. We believe all children can reach high levels of achievement and daily practice over the summer with family allows all children the opportunity to maintain their literacy skills and return to school well prepared for learning.

Cafe features art from Bowmore Road Public School students Exhibition on display until June 27 at Lazy Daisy’s
Bowmore Rd. and Lazy Daisy
Staff photo/REBECCA FIELD Bowmore Road Public School teacher Kara Del Aguila in front of her student's portraits at Lazy Daisy's Cafe. The portraits will be on display until June 27……………….…see full article in Inside Toronto
Excerpt…”Hanging on the wall of the cozy Lazy Daisy’s café at Gerrard and Coxwell hang 23 portraits of students from Bowmore Road Public School.
Painted, drawn, glued-together, the artwork is different colours, shapes and sizes much like the grade fours and fives who made them.”
From Picasso-like manifestations to portraits made entirely with yarn, each portrait has a different message about who the child is, as well as a display of their artistic ability with shading or colour.
Del Aguila had a discussion with her students about messages in art, and that everything could potentially be read as having meaning or intention.
“That’s a pretty heavy conversation for nine, 10 and 11-year olds, but the idea was that every choice you make reflects you or a message.”
One student, was able to colour his face in the same style as President Obama’s campaign posters, with red and blues shading his face. Another drew herself wearing a hijab in front of the Pakistani flag, to represent where she came from and how she dressed before moving to Canada.
“Some of the kids actually are recognizable in their portraits,” said Del Aguila. “They’re proud of themselves which is the most valuable thing for me to watch.”
Del Aguila hopes to continue doing annual art project displays with Lazy Daisy’s to give her students a chance to be connected with the community and have the opportunity to get their work outside of the school environment.
“It provides this great atmosphere when you get in here,” said Dawn Chapman, owner of Lazy Daisy’s. “The thing about children’s art as well, they’re very unencumbered by restrictions. Their work is very unique.”

Watershed on Wheels
Bowmore students discovered how water in storm drains travel to
the nearest body of water without treatment through an interactive
model and slide show. Once educated, our students painted yellow
fish beside each storm drain to increase awareness about storm drain
water. Mr. Norris and Mr. Ross guided 7-0 and 7-1 student groups
through our neighbourhood.
Way to go Bowmore!! Lead by example that every act helps!!!
Terracycle Briggade
We collected Foil Pouch Drink
and Tassimo Disks. We were
able to collect over 200 foil
drink pouches and over 300
disks that will be re-directed
from land fill. They have been
shipped to Terracycle for points
that can go towards Bowmore
students.
Narooshan was invaluable in
