PRINCIPAL’S REPORT: HARMONY DAY: Harmony day is traditionally celebrated annually on the 21st of March. Harmony day is a day to celebrate our cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. This year Berrigan Public School will celebrate Harmony Day on Friday the 22nd of March with our Values Launch Party Day. We decided to join these 2 events because the ideas behind developing a new values system for our school align closely with what Harmony Day represents. VALUES LAUNCH ASSEMBLY: We are all very excited for this Friday as we unveil to the community our new school vision, mantra, promise and values. The students have all been learning about these values and how they can make us be the best people that we can be. Each class has a presentation on a particular value and I know that they are very eager to show you all. If you can make it to our assembly at 9am Friday morning we promise it will be memorable. A morning tea will follow the assembly and you will be able to purchase mini donuts for $2 each – money raised will go to the SRC. For the remainder of the day students will be involved in activities around our new values, a meal deal for lunch, and then a school disco to finish off the day. YEAR 3/4 EXCURSION: Year 3/4 Excursion is approaching fast. Reminder to all parents that notes and money need to be in by Friday the 29th of March. Principal: Tanya Saraikin TELL THEM FOR ME SURVEY: Yesterday students in Year 4/5/6 participated in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them.

More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at our school.

SCHOOL NEWS: Western Riverina AF Trials: The trials will be held on Thursday, 21st March at Leeton Show Grounds. All the best to Ryan Thornton, Brody Penrose, Lachlan O’Dwyer and Jeremy Packer who will be competing. YEAR 5/6 BEECHWORTH EXCURSION: On Tuesday 26th March, Year 5/6 will be going to Beechworth to supplement our English/Science unit. They will be visiting Beechworth Honey and the Beechworth Bakery.

PSSA SWIMMING CARNIVAL:

On Wednesday 13th March, Zoe, Rosie, Isabel, and Jordan went to the PSSA Swimming Carnival in Albury. Jordan went first in the 50 metres, then it was Zoe’s turn. They did very well. Then we were in the senior relay and when we were called, we went to the Marshall area. It was packed! Rosie and Zoe had to go up the other end of the pool, while Miley and Isabel stayed up the other end. The order of the relay was Isabel, Rosie, Miley and Zoe, we all swam our hearts out. There were kids that travelled from schools over three hours away.

IT WAS A GREAT DAY! By Rosie, Miley, Isabel and Zoe

SEESAW: BPS students have been buzzing with excitement at the introduction of Seesaw to the all levels of the school. Students love that Seesaw is a way for them to share their work with Family and Friends.

At school we are using the “Seesaw Class” app to create a digital portfolio showcasing our classwork and things that we have been working on at school.

Families are able to access their student’s work at home using the “Seesaw Family” app. This app is free and able to be downloaded to your device from the app store. The school provides each family with a unique barcode to scan to log in which allows them to see their children’s work.

Lots of families in the school are already connected to their children’s portfolio and have been able to comment and encourage their children. Students get so excited to see the feedback from families!

Any family that is having difficulty getting Seesaw Family operating at home please contact the office and they will assist you with any issues.
