Dear Parents/Guardians, It was fantastic to see the strong turn-out to our recent Parent /
Teacher Conferences, despite the wintery conditions. These
discussions play such an important role in celebrating student
achievement, addressing areas for improvement and renewing
the purpose for study at school. These discussions were also
timely, being scheduled a week or two before the end of Semes-
ter 1. This will assist students to complete the semester in the
best possible manner and help them be in the in the right mind-
set to undertake the Semester 1 Examination Program. The
exams take place between 1st and 4th June for students in
Years 8 to 12. Needless to say, students are expected to revise
work in preparation for their exams. Some of this will be done
during class-time however all students are expected to spend
time on revision as their home-work.

Interschool Mixed Touch
Rugby
On Friday May 22nd we had 2 mixed touch rugby teams compete in the Victorian State Touch Rugby Championships at Elwood Park. These teams have spent their Friday lunchtimes this year training to-gether and were raring to go bright and early on Friday morning Despite a slow start to their games against some very good opposition, the teams both started to implement some great plays and score more tries
and notch up some wins. Both teams were eliminat-ed in the first round of the finals, but overall showed some fantastic team work and school spirit throughout the day that they should be very proud of.
U15 Team: Johnelle AH SAN, Josh CLAPP, Antoi-nette ELI, Tony ELI, Beau GIBBS, Jordan HIROA MAIAVA, Boedene HIROA MAIAVA, Amanda LOPE-SI, Tina MARINER, Reef RHIND-LUKE, Santara ZACHAN
U18 Team: Dylan BLACKWELL, Valentino CHUNG, Pokuah FRIMPONG, Pararaki KOHU, Danika NUMAN-GA, Natasha SELENI, Will SMITH, Emma TUILOMA, Devi WHELAN

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT PROGRAM
Dear Parents and Guardians
At Kambrya College, we have international students from all over the world studying
beside our local students.
We are looking for more families near our school to host our international students and
become a homestay provider.
This involves providing an international student with a bedroom of their own with a light,
desk, computer access and bookshelf. It also means providing them with three meals a
day, just like you would your own child. The student pays $250 per week to cover costs.
We have some really delightful international students and if you would like us to send
you out more information about becoming a homestay provider, please telephone the
ISP Office on 9707 7624 or contact us via email at [email protected].
Kind regards,
Michael Muscat Rose Serra Principal International Student Program Coordinator

9. JOURNALISM AT LA TROBE – Journalism
can be studied at most universities, however, at a recent conference, Career Practitioners were told about journalism at La Trobe University. It was pointed out that there are still jobs in journalism, but not in traditional
media. However, there are more TV channels, more radio stations seeking staff. It was pointed out that the first job in journalism is often easier to obtain than
the second or subsequent position, as promotion can be difficult. Graduates often start as a digital content producer. Journalism skills can be used in arrange of jobs because journalists learn to synthesize, present, package and process information. Why study at La Trobe? Journalism there has a broad approach, transferrable skills are taught, all senior staff work in the industry, and there are great industry links. Attempts have been made to create real-world assessment tasks such as attending press conferences and writing reports; there is a genuine student focus, aspiration is fostered, and efforts have been made to see that all assessments don’t came at the same time. CAT Detention Process
Please be aware that the College has introduced a new process for students in Years 7 to 10 to help
ensure that all Common Assessment Tasks (CATs) are submitted on time. Students who do not submit
their CATs by the due date will be issued with an afterschool detention for a Wednesday afternoon.
The detention will run from 2.30-3.15 in G4.
Classroom teachers will issue students with a detention slip (example below) and will also notify par-
ents of the detention via email or phone call.
The College sets high standards and expects students to adhere to the due dates set by teachers.
Where a CAT is completed during class time and a student is absent, the student must meet with the
teacher at the earliest convenience to determine an appropriate time to complete the CAT. Where a
CAT is completed as homework, the student must submit the CAT to the teacher no later than the next
class.
If you have any questions regarding this process, please do not hesitate to contact Lisa Murphy on
9707 7600.
