This term we will continue to focus on: engaging our learners through our specialist pedagogies further developing our focus on giving every student a voice and continuing to develop our relevant and meaningful curriculum. Together our staff are continually developing their skills to provide a personalised and specialised education for all students. A reminder to all parents that the Ekkaholiday is now on Friday 14 August. Keeping students and ourselves safe As per government regulations we continue to ensure our students, staff and the wider community maintain healthy and safe practices at school. There is still a clear expectation for adults to social distance appropriately in the workplace. Staff and students should continue to frequently wash hands and/or use sanitiser. Parents visiting the school should sign-in and use the hand sanitiser provided. When attending school activities social distancing is expected from all adults where possible. When students exhibit illnesses out of the usual, parents will be contacted to collect their child. Unwell staff members will remain at home or go home if they become unwell. We have had a great start to the term with students celebrating NAIDOC Week and having our first whole school assembly together, with parents, for many weeks. Students participated in activities such as scratch art boomerangs, shared reading with Dream Time stories and creating an art piece to display from the stories they have been reading. Towards the end of term 2, the students started learning cultural songs and dances in music lessons and we were able to come together last Friday to do the dances and sing the songs everyone had been learning in their class lessons. We were also treated to a performance by The Geebung Special School Choir and class 14/15 performed a clapping sticks song for us. The week gave our students many opportunities to learn about and engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
