Principal’s News Happy Holidays
I would like to wish all staff, students
and families a safe and relaxing
holiday. Term one has been great and
congratulations to all our students on
the significant progress they have made in the last 10
weeks.
Term 2 is going to be as busy as ever with NAPLAN
testing for our Year 3 and 5 students, ANZAC Day and
the Gympie Show, to name a few of the things going on
already. Term 2 is also an 11 week term as we head
into the cooler months.
Student Free Day Monday the 16th April
Please remember that Monday the 16th April (first day
of Term 2) is a student free day. This is an additional
Student Free Day from previous years due to the
Commonwealth Games. Students are to return on
Tuesday the 17th April ready to get stuck into a great
Term 2.
Commonwealth Games Baton Relay
It was great to have the opportunity to get a glimpse of
the Commonwealth Games Baton as it ended its
Gympie leg. The students were entertained as they
waited for the Baton to arrive at the One Mile Ovals.
After a quick lap of the students, the baton was then
added to the convoy as it made its way down to the
Gold Coast.
Keep a watch on our school these holidays
With the holidays fast approaching, we need you to look
out for after-hours crime in our school. If you see
something suspicious, please don’t attempt to
intervene. Call School Watch on 13 17 88 and let the
local police or State Government Protective Security
Service deal with the matter.
The School Watch program is a partnership between
the Department of Education and Training, the
Queensland Police Service and the State Government
Protective Security Service. It aims to reduce
vandalism, theft and arson in Queensland schools.
Keep the number handy and let’s work together to help
create a safer school community.
Attendance
Congratulations to Prep D for having the best
attendance for last week and great effort to Prep for
having the best attendance with 96.8%. Also great
effort to our Year 3 students for also reaching our target
with an attendance rate of 96.1%. Remember every day
counts and I look forward to reporting on the best
attendance of the last week of Term 1.

Religious Education begins in
Term2 on a Wednesday afternoon
for Year 4 and Year 6. Students will be allocated to
groups (of attending or not attending) as per the
information provided during enrolment. If you would like
to update these details please contact the office.
End of Term Rewards
This week all students who met the criteria of 95%
attendance and no RTC visits during term 1 (from 19th
February when it was announced) were invited to
attend the end of term reward. This allows each
student no more than 2 ½ days away each term.
Attendance
LARS has been visiting our top attending classes all
term. It has been pleasing to see our Prep and Year 3
cohort meeting our attendance target so often.
PBL
Our focus for Term 1 has been on our Check-In
process (the faces). Ask your children about the faces
and strategies to help us remain at 3 or 4. We will
continue with our Check In process and add
discussions around the Line of Opportunity. You may
have seen this written on the floor at the entry in a
number of the classrooms.
It has been a very busy Term One and we wish you all
a safe and enjoyable break. See you next term!
Have a great holiday
Ms Sue Eastwood
Student Absences
Recording your child’s absence is an important task
when your child is away. We have a student absence
line for your convenience.
Please Call 07-5480-2760
Note:- Student absences of more than 10 days duration
require an approved student exemption form. Please
see the office.
PE News –
Mr Martin Cross Country
Our One Mile Cross Country will be
on Friday April 27 (week 2 term 2)
from 9am – 11am at the One Mile Soccer/Cricket ovals
across Brisbane Road. If your child wishes to be
competitive it is important to try to keep training. Please
encourage your child to keep training or at least keep
active over the Easter break. I will be running the
Gympie District course starting from the Cricket
Clubhouse at 5pm on April 4, 9 and 11 if any students
are interested.
A simple program to follow would be to run 3 times a
week (playing a team sport and training can help build
fitness also).
• One session could be to find a hill or hilly track to
run. Learning how to keep going up a hill and then
recover on the way down is useful.
• A second session could be to find a 400-500 metre
course and run that at 90%.This can be timed and run
again trying to maintain or beat that time over several
more attempts.
• Thirdly it is good to do a long run and just enjoy
running. Children turning 10 will run 2km and those
turning 11 and 12 will run 3km so a long run would be
at least that distance.

Music Notes Mrs Airey What a busy term! Our extra-
curricular music groups are all well under way and we
look forward to an upcoming performance soon so that
we can show you all what we've been up to!
Our preppies are learning all about beat and rhythm,
and have been learning lots of different songs and
rhymes in music lessons.
Our year 1s and 2s have been learning about what an
ostinato is, learning how to play a C chord on the
ukulele, and strumming to a steady beat whilst singing.
They have also created some of their own 4 beat
rhythmic patterns with paddle pop sticks (some pictured
here). Some students even challenged themselves and
used paddle pop sticks in the Boomwhacker colours
that represent some of the solfa pitches we've been
studying so
that their
rhythms
could also
have a pitch!
Years 3 and
4 have been
learning to
play the
recorder! If
parents
would like to
purchase
their child a
recorder they can purchase a Yamaha recorder from
either of our two local music shops. We have plenty at
school that are sterilised prior to each lesson with
Milton sterilising solution but having one at home to
practice on would be wonderful! I think the school
holidays is a wonderful time to practice! 😉 Students
have been learning how to read and play notes B, A,
and G from the treble staff and are working on covering
the holes completely and whispering to produce a
pleasant tone.
Year 5 is focusing on ukulele as their weapon of choice,
learning how to sing and accompany themselves whilst
playing chords C, F, and G, and also learning all about
our pentatonic scale which is used the world over.
They've also been looking at compound time and
simple rounds such as 'Whispering Wind'.
Our Year 6's instrument focus is guitar and they've
learnt several different chords and are working on
accompanying themselves on guitar as they sing.
They're loving 'Achy Breaky Heart' and also singing
partner songs such as 'The Canoe Song' and 'Land of
the Silver Birch' and also 'Oh Sinner Man' and 'Drunken
Sailor'. They are also learning about the Major scale
and compound time among other music concepts.
I look forward to continuing the work we have started
this term, and helping our students to deepen their
understanding and extend their music skills throughout
next term!
Keep making music, One Mile mini-musos! 😊
