PAYMENT CATEGORIES

Should 'Alternative A', as set out within Clause 10.3 of theJBCC 2000 Preliminaries, be used for the adjustment ofpreliminaries, then each item priced is to be allocated to one ormore categories by the insertion of the letter "F", "V" or "T", asthe case may be, against the price in the rate column. Theseletters shall indicate the relevant categories as follows :

"F" - A fixed amount, ie. which shall not be varied

"V" - An amount which shall be varied in proportion tothe contract value

Dayworks (C2)

Where in the opinion of the quantity surveyor any extra workcannot properly measured or valued, the contractor will beallowed daywork prices therefor calculated upon the costsdefined hereunder together with the stated percentages. Thetotal thus arrived at shall be the total amount recoverable by thecontractor for performing such work.

1.The cost to the contractor or sub-contractor of materials,being the net cost (at current market prices) atually paid forsuch materials after the deduction of cash discounts or ifmaterials are supplied from the contractor's or sub-contractor's stock then the cost of such materials shall bebased upon the current market price plus the cost of delivery tosite; to which net cost 10 per cent thereof shall be added.

2.The cost of labour to the contractor or sub-contractor, beingall items of direct cost of labour actually renumerated to theworkmen concerned which shall include the cost of allallowances in terms of Industrial Conciliation Act (whereapplicalbe) or any other wage determination applying in thearea or any other charge or expense which is normally bind- ingas well as statory levies to education and training funds as maybe applicable relating to the class of labour concerened at thetime when and in the area where the daywork is executed; towhich labour costs 75 % in respect of shopfitting, respec ofplumbing, plastering, joinery and stone masonry and 40 % inrespect of painting and decora ting, general builders work andany other trade not specified herein, shall be added.

Hourly base rates for labour shall be the current rates for labourbased upon standard working hours and shall be applied inrepect of the time spent by workers directly enga- ged on theparticular dayworks including any operators operatingmechanical plant and transport and erecting and dismantlingother plant.

If a claim is made that individual workmen have been paidwages and allowances in excess of the minimum legalisedrates, then proof mus be furnised that such workmen had beenso paid prior to the commencement of the extra work referredto.

Time lost due to inclement weather shall be excluded from thetime charged.

3.Other direct cost, being any related direct costs such asmechanical plant and transport, other than costs of material

and labour and shall be the net cost thereof to which net cost10 percent thereof shall be added.

The rates for mechanical plant shall be commercial hire ratescurrent at the time of executing the daywork and shall includefuel and insurance costs.

The above percentages shall cover head office charges; sitestaff including site supervision; third party and contractor'spublic liability insurance; contractor's workmen's compen-sation and unemployment insurance fund contributions; use oferected scaffolding, staging, trestles and the like; use oftarpaulinns, protective clothing, artificial lighting, safety andwelfare facilities, storage and the like as may be available onthe site; and profit.

Supporting vouchers reflecting the time spent and materialsused each week shall be delivered for verification to thequantity surveyor not later than twenty one days after the end ofthe week concerned. Should the contractor fail to submit thevouchers within this time, the quantity surveyor shall determinea fair price for the work.

FENCING (PROVISIONAL)

PREAMBLES

SUPPLEMENTARY PREAMBLES

Items, materials or methods to be used specified by tradenames or catalogue numbers are only an indication of thequality required. Items, materials or methods of similar qualitymay be used with prior approval from the architect.

The boundary line shall be cleared of all vegetation, trees,rocks, rubble and rubbish for a width of 500mm on each sideand the same removed from site.

The one meter wide boundary line shall be graded to an evenline so that the fencing mesh later described, shall have a50mm gap at the bottom and a height of 1800mm aboveground level.

Allowance shall therefore be made as required to excavateareas that are to high and to fill depressions with approvedclean filling, carted on where necessary and well compactedprior to erection of posts.

Nature of ground

The nature of the ground is assumed to be loose sandymaterial, therefore "earth", but possibly interspersed with "hardrock" or "soft rock"

Carting away of excavated material

Descriptions of carting away of excavated material shall bedeemed to include loading excavated material onto trucksdirectly from the excavations, or alternatively, from stock pilessituated on the building site
