The Department of Education monitors all Independent Public Schoolsaccountability through a triennial review process. The process involved the school submitting all key documents online with an analysis, commentary and overall judgement. The reviewers role was to verify our claims about the school through evidencing the work and interviews with all relevant stakeholders. The reviewers commented positively on many areas and in particular the great partnership between the school and the community. Osborne Primary School is a complex learning environment and we were able to effectively demonstrate how we manage and lead the curriculum in our context. I take this moment to thank our teachers, P&C and Board for the passion and commitment you bring to the school to ensure the ongoing success of our students. Our Business Plan 2019-2021 has now been ratified by the school board and will soon be available on our webpage. On a lighter note – I cannot wait to enjoy the Colour Fun Run on Tues 11 December with everyone. Make sure you create your childs online profile and enter all fundraising by end of school today. LINDA GRIFFIN Scitech Excursion Room 7 Room 7 students have been integrating learning of Geography and Science. Accompanied by Yazans mother Roufaida, Lachlans mother Chondelle and Mrs Isaac, they went by bus to Scitech. First the class admired the aboriginal paintings in the foyer, then went up many, many stairs to be seated in the Space Dome for a scientist to speak about the night sky. The students then watched a 360 degree movie screen about why Earth has seasons. Following that, they had free time experimenting in the main area with numerous challenges. Mrs Scholz particularly liked the experiments in the darkened rooms. The most exciting time was had watching a scientist in a special room. We named him Amazing Tom”, and he lived up to his name; amongst unexpected but anticipated explosions he put Mrs Scholz on fire!!!!

Pre Primary 2 Assembly It all began with a broken chair, bowls of porridge, an extremely comfortable bed and a little blonde haired girl! Our talented Pre Primary’s hosted their first ever assembly at Osborne Primary School this week. They

confidently retold the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears with actions, song and dance. All students were

encouraged to have a speaking role on the day and diligently practised their lines at home and school to

perfection! The Pre Primary’s had such fun at rehearsals in the lead up to the big day. They were also fabulous

helpers in making the props too. Many thanks to all the Pre Primary parents and carers that supported the

students to learn their speaking lines and sourced costumes to make the day so very memorable. We are all

looking forward to our next performance on stage — our whole school, annual EDU Dance evening concert on

Monday 10th December. We look forward to seeing you there!

Did you know….. Our school website is full of wonderful photo galleries of events your children have participated in at school . Be sure to jump online to see your child. In recent events such as Book Week, The Naidoc week incursion, School Camp, Winter Carnival and much more. You can find the gallery under the ‘About’ tab on the home page.

Protective Education Workshop Tuesday 23 October from 6:30-8:30 pm In the school library

Protective education is a proactive whole community approach to teaching life skills to children. It gives them the language to identify unsafe situations, arm them with tools to seek appropriate assistance or protect themselves. We would like to see as many parents as possible attend this workshop. Please rsvp: [email protected] or Tel: 9349 2737

Room 10 PP/Year 1 We have recently been exploring Our Weather, Patterns in the sky as part of our STEAM * activities. Students have learned that we can make observations about our weather and that we can use these observations to reveal weather patterns and make forecasts. Students made their own rain clouds using shaving foam, water and blue dye to demonstrate when a cloud becomes saturated and will start to rain.

We then looked at attributes of different types of clouds and what they tell us about our weather. We even went cloud spotting on the oval to find them and recreated the different types of clouds using cotton balls.

We looked at how rainbows are created and then we designed and made our own sculptures from colourful foods.

Parents and Citizens association Hi Everyone, The Colour Fun Run fundraising is almost complete. The last day for the fundraising is Friday 19 October. All cash donations need to be made by this date. Could you please put all cash donations into an envelope and place it into the P&C Silver Box located in the admin office. After this, you will be able to go online and select your prizes. If you had set a goal when you first created your profile, the prizes you selected will not be automatically ordered for you, you need to go online and order them manually. The fun run is on Tues 11 December.

Book Fair will be held on Thurs 15, Fri 16, and Mon 19 November. The theme is To the Book Fair and Beyond. Parents, we are looking for helpers to assist with book fair. If you are available, before and after school on any of these days, it would be very much appreciated. We need helpers to assist with the set up and help the children while they are selecting what they would like to purchase. Our next P & C Meeting is on Wed 24 October at 7pm in the Staff Room. We will be discussing such issues as the School Colour Fun Run and the Book Fair. We hope you can make it. Amanda Dyson P&C Secretary FROM THE SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST: Triple P Seminar: The Power of Positive Parenting I had the pleasure of running the seminar this week with a small group of enthusiastic and active participants! I covered topics such as: creating a safe, interesting environment; having a positive learning environment; assertive discipline; having realistic expectations and taking care of yourself as a parent. Some very good discussions took place and parents asked great questions. People left reflecting on what was working well in their home already and took away some ideas on what they might try a little differently. I had very encouraging feedback about the seminar; they liked the safe, non judgemental approach and were keen for follow-up seminars to run at Osborne PS in 2019. Watch this space for notices of future seminars and mark your calendars! For these to continue, we need parents like you to come! Any questions: either direct them to the Principal or Deputy and I'm at Osborne PS every second Tuesday during Term. Look forward to meeting you! Luciana Carelli School Psychologist
