PRAYER FOR MOTHERS
Heavenly Father, from the beginning you have chosen to entrust the human person to mothers in a special way. We thank and praise you for the gift of mothers;
for their tenderness, care, and compassion, for their intuition and encouragement,
for commitment and sacrifice. Bless all mothers this day.
Keep, strengthen, and refresh them in your loving care.
May they be blessed by our open-hearted love and gratitude.
Amen.

An Act of Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacra-ment. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive
You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my
heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be sep-arated from You.
Amen. Cut out and save!
This is a very special weekend for our mothers, so let me begin by wishing you all a very Happy Mother’s Day! Whether you are a mother, grandmother, stepmother, foster mother, or are like a mother to someone, we celebrate you on this day, so please enjoy it since I’m pretty sure you’ll remember this specific Mother’s Day for a while!
I’d like to relate to you a personal story about my own Mom and how much she has meant in my life. I know I’ve told the story during a few homilies that I was the last of seven in my family, and by a long shot! I have 4 brothers and 2 sisters, but my next oldest sibling is 6 years older than me. On top of that, my father was 50 and my mother 39 when I was born, so I was not expected, nor really wanted by my parents, as their family was complete six years prior to my birth. Be that as it may, my parents loved me and cared for me just like my other siblings. They would tell you I was spoiled, but I certainly didn’t see it that way!
Both of my parents worked very menial, low paying jobs to support their family, and my Mom worked shifts at the local hospital. Yet, she always had food prepared for us and cleaned much more than she should have, because she didn’t make me do much at all! More than anything, she loved us; she loved me, and showed us all by always putting our needs ahead of hers. Lack of sleep, illness, you name it and she worked around and through it.
My Mom had a serious heart attack at the age of 55. I was in high school at the time, and as she fought for her life and later tried to resume her life, she brushed aside how poorly she felt and kept being the Mom we all knew. She had a second heart attack at the age of 67 and this event took her life. I was 28 at the time and married for just a little over a year. It took me a long time to get my life in order following her death, and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t miss her, even after over 32 years. She will always be a part of me, and I’m sure she still helps me with her prayers!
I say all this not to look for sympathy from anyone. I do say this so that no matter where your Mom is; if she’s with you and she’s healthy, sick and/or failing, gone to Jesus or has some other circumstance: be thankful for the life she has given you, because without her, you wouldn’t be here! Blessings to all mothers on this day and always! Deacon Jeff

I’ve always strived to be a “glass half full” kinda girl. Life is never perfect, but God has always provided many blessings in my life to be thankful for, even on the hardest of days. When this stay at home craziness began, I would watch the news every night. When I started to become overwhelmed and stressed from doing this, I just simply stopped. I haven’t watched the news in a month and I don’t miss it one bit. Instead, I have been focusing on where I have been seeing God at work in my daily life. This is much less stressful and much more rewarding. I highly recommend it. The acronym P.P.E. (Personal Protective Equipment) has been floating around a lot, so I’ve decided to use the same acronym P.P.E. for a different purpose. Below you will find my own personal version of P.P.E.
My Top 10 P.P.E. (Positive Pandemic Experiences) 1. Taking my time to pray with a cup of coffee in my hand
every morning 2. More quality time with my husband and a few deep
faith discussions 3. Hearing kids play outside while it’s warm enough to
have windows open (and overhearing a family celebrating the feast of St. Joseph in their front yard! The domestic church IS ALIVE!)
4. Learning more technical stuff about keeping up the POP website/Flocknote/Powerpoint
5. Getting into the routine of walking or getting on our elliptical every day
6. Cleaning out the basement like I’ve wanted to for 3 years
7. Time to spend catching up with friends and family on the phone and over Zoom.
8. Watching the sun set from our deck 9. Reading a book that’s been sitting on my nightstand
begging to be read since 2018 10. Making and sending my own greeting cards to family
and friends Our Savior always makes Himself known in even the toughest
of situations and you can always find Him around you, if open
up your heart. What are your top 10 Positive Pandemic
Experiences?
