Our Baptismal Ministry is pleased to help your family prepare for the special event of your child’s entrance into our faith community. Please contact the parish office at least two months prior to your preferred Baptism date to schedule a preparation class. We encourage attendance at this class well before the baby’s birth. The class is usually offered the last Monday evening of each month. Baptisms are scheduled on Sundays at 1:00 p.m.
Sacrament of Reconciliation Saturday from 4:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. or by appointment.
Sacraments of Initiation Adults interested in receiving the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation) may call the Director of our RCIA program, Deacon Tim Leonard.
Sacrament of Marriage Please contact the parish office at least six months prior to your wedding to set a date and to begin your marriage preparation and required paper work.
Home or Hospital Visitation Anyone who cannot attend Mass because of age or illness, and would like to receive the Eucharist at home, should call the parish office to arrange a visit. Likewise, if you are being admitted to the hospital, and would like a visit, please call. Due to confidentiality reasons, hospitals no longer call the parish to inform us when parishioners are admitted.
Dear Priests, Deacons, Staff, and Parishioners of Prince of Peace,
My name is Fr. John Hetland and by the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I have been sent to Prince of Peace as your new Associate Pastor. I was ordained a priest in May 2011.
My first assignment was St. Barnabas on the south side of the city of Chicago, located in the traditional Irish American neighborhood of Beverly, from 2011-2015. My last parish was St. Eugene located near Harlem and Foster Ave. on Chicago’s Northwest side.
I am looking forward to ministering at Prince of Peace Parish in the years to come. I’m excited about getting to know you all and being part of the Prince of Peace family.
I love being a priest; it has brought me much happiness and joy. Hopefully, God has used this joy and happiness to allow others to be as well. I enjoy many types of priestly ministry. I would say my favorite aspect of priesthood is to help foster an even stronger relationship between God and His people. I love praying with people and teaching them how to pray, especially praying to Jesus within the context of a scripture passage. I love interacting with school students, answering their questions and teaching them to how to pray. My goal as a priest is to continue to point people to Jesus as they build up their relationship with Him, and then ultimately to be with Him in heaven for all eternity.
I have been blessed because God called me to be a priest at a young age. I was around 13 when I was first open to the call of priesthood. I went to Quigley (downtown campus) for high school seminary. After high school I went to St. Joseph College Seminary at Loyola University (formally known as Niles College Seminary) and graduated in 2007. I have been in the seminary for a long time and I am filled with joy, knowing it is coming to an end. Most importantly, I’m looking forward to being with you all as we serve the people of Lake Villa and each other.
I was born and raised in Chicago. My father is from the north side of the city and his parish is Transfiguration, located near California and Foster. My mother is from the South Side of the city and her parish was St. Bride’s in South Shore near the intersection of 78th and Coles. My parents raised their family on the North Side, which means my home parish is also Transfiguration. My other home parish is St. Matthias, because Transfiguration and St. Matthias were linked (clustered) for 8 years while I was a teenager. I have three sisters and one brother. I also have a niece and five nephews. Most of my father’s side of the family lives on the North Side and in the Northern suburbs , while my mother’s side lives in south shore and the South Suburbs. My hobbies include playing and watching sports, listening to music, hanging out/talking to friends, playing brain games and listening to Catholic lectures online.
This is just a snapshot of my life. I’m thrilled I will be able to hear about all of your lives in the months to come.
In prayer, Fr. John Hetland Associate Pastor

MASS Intentions for the Week
We encourage you to call with the names of family members who are ill and you wish to have remembered in prayer. They will be mentioned in the Petitions in the Sunday Liturgy for one week and then published in the weekly bulletin. In order to respect everyone’s privacy, these names must be given by a family member. Continuing prayer for our loved ones is very important for all involved. Therefore, we ask that you call the parish office and update us on your family member, so that we may maintain a current and meaningful list.

Volunteer with ElderCARE
Did you know that over 17,000 seniors in Lake County live alone? ElderCARE brings companionship to hundreds of Lake County elders through friendly visits, shopping and medical transportation. Each ride is a visit. ElderCARE helps to combat the statistics that tell us there is a 45% increased risk of death if living alone and 59% increased risk of Functional Decline of living alone.
We are thankful for the Prince of Peace volunteers, but the need has grown, and we need to serve more folks. Won’t you help by becoming an ElderCARE volunteer? ElderCARE will hold a volunteer orientation at on Saturday, July 27 from 10:00am to noon at the Lake Villa Township office – 37908 N. Fairfield Rd. Please call 847-406-4683 and let us know you’re coming, thanks!
Below are thank you notes we have received from some of the agencies that benefit from the rummage sale
“left overs.” The annual rummage sale is truly a community event, benefitting more than just our school.
Thank you again to all who donated to the sale, all who shopped, and all who gave of their time to make
the rummage sale a success! The sale has made our school approximately $36,000 this year.
I cannot thank you enough for your donations to PADS. We were able to get 7 boxes of clothes—including
2 boxes of 3x/4x sizes which we never have, and we do have some larger guests. It’s a great feeling to be able
to clothe those in need and POP generosity has helped us to make that happen. We were also able to get
some backpacks. We often get new to PADS guests who are carrying their belongings in plastic bags. Now we
will be able to give them something that will hold up better and protect their belongings.
From the bottom of my heart I thank you!
Blessings in Christ,
Jenny Gapinski
Thank you so much for donating books from your rummage sale. We are so grateful for your support and
partnership. Your 705 books go a long way. The books you graciously donated enable us to serve 59 children
with 12 books this year. You have gotten us one step closer to our goal: distribute 3.6 million books to the
300,000 children in need throughout the Chicagoland area.
On behalf of all the children we serve, thank you for furthering our mission!

Thank you for your donation to Allendale’s foster child closet. This is a completely free program for foster

As Catholics we are called to serve. However, many of us are unsure of what our charisms or gifts from the Holy Spirit are to help build God’s Church. Through prayer we are able to discern how God is calling us. The next time your pastor or fellow parishioner asks you to join a committee, ask God first, if that is what He wants you to do with your gifts.

Knights of Columbus Blood Drive Thank You
The Knights of Columbus Blood Drive held at Prince of Peace on Sunday, June 23, yielded 23 units for Vitalant (formerly Life Source) and area hospitals. Please inform the parish office of any additions to your family, changes in member status or address changes. All Catholic adults, 18 years old and no longer in school, who live within the parish area should register in their own name. Active and supporting membership includes offering one’s time, talent and treasure to assist in promoting the Gospel and the mission of Prince of Peace Parish. Please help us maintain our parish records by registering or
advising us of changes as soon as possible. Welcome to Prince of Peace! We are glad you are here!
Prince of Peace staff and the Communications Ministry frequently videotape or photograph participants enjoying programs, Masses and other events at our facility. These photographs are taken for use in parish publications, flyers, our website, brochures and future materials. All photos and videos taken on Prince of Peace property are for parish use and become the sole property of the parish. If you or a member of your family does not wish to be photographed, please contact the parish office.
PPC Liaisons to each of our parish
commissions are listed on the previous page.
