Topics
• Introduction
• Challenge 1: “My XER is too big to email.”
• Challenge 2: “Why is it running slow?”
• Challenge 3: “Who changed that in my schedule?”
• Challenge 4: “Why does it take so long to baseline?”
4
My XER file is too big to email
• User Challenge: When exporting an XER file to
transmit to another party the export takes forever
and the file is excessively large.
• Cause: Unused data “for future use”
• Guidance: Clean the POBS Data
– (Doc ID 1967569.1)
– Clean the XER File manually
– Use the XER Parser Utility or POBS Eraser
– Automate cleanup of the POBS Table
– Upgrade to a version with the patch
5
POBS Handling Options
• Manual XER Edit
• XER Parser Utility (KM 1302538.1)
• POBS Eraser Tool Doc ID 2046971.1
• Automating POBS Table Cleanup
• Consider Upgrading for Fix
– r8.3.12.0
– r8.4.8.0
– r15.1.5.0
– r15.2.1.0

Why’s P6 running slow?
• User Challenge: Why does it feel like P6 is getting slower everyday?
• Guidance:
– Benchmark performance actions for comparison
1. Review Technology Environment (Sizing, Network, etc.)
2. Establish Data Cleanup Maintenance Processes
– REFRDEL purge
– POBS DATA
– PXKREF Cleanup
– Disabling Auditing Triggers
– Schedule cleanup of extended schema (purge old)
– Schedule check project integrity scripts
– Schedule Index Analysis and database rebuild

• Also consider the volume of UDF and Code
Assignment values in sizing the technology
environment.
Who Changed That?
• User Challenge: Tracking the source of
unexpected changes is difficult in Primavera P6.
• Guidance: LoadSpring recommends Audit Trail
(AT) for Oracle Primavera EPPM. Changes to
schedule data are date/time/user stamped
accessible through an intuitive user interface for
analysis.

Why does it take so long to Baseline?
• User Challenge: When using P6 Professional and
I save a baseline the User Interface is locked up for
15 minutes.
• Guidance:
– Understand Version Differences
• R8.4 – Baseline running as a service
– Establish scheduled baselining window and
frequency
– Are you truly baselining or just making a copy as a
snapshot?
14
Baselining Handling Discussion
• Baselining
– Baselining pre - 8.4
– Baselining post - 8.4
– Alternatives to baselining
